SEVENTEEN donates KRW 1 billion to wildfires relief fund
28 Mar - It was reported that SEVENTEEN has recently donated KRW 1 billion to support those affected by the recent wildfires in South Korea.
The Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association announced the news on 27 March, saying that the idol group has donated the amount, which is approximately USD 682,000, to help forest fire victims in Ulsan, North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang Province.
"We hope it will be of little help to those who were affected by the forest fire," said members of SEVENTEEN, adding, "We express our deepest condolences to the victims and send our condolences to everyone who is having a hard time."
"We deeply appreciate the warm donations of SEVENTEEN members," said Shin Hoon, Secretary-General of Hope Bridge. "The donation will be used quickly and transparently so that residents affected by the wildfires can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
Hope Bridge is providing emergency relief supplies to the victims. Relief vehicles have been deployed to temporary shelters at the site. The association is also considering additional support if necessary, in consultation with local governments.
It was reported that more than a dozen fires broke out over the weekend with the forest damage reaching 35,810 hectares, forcing around 27,000 people to urgently evacuate. It has now been dubbed South Korea's largest ever wildfire since the 2000's inferno.
