Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl strengthens community partnerships

Masidi with the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl delegation. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 15): The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (RCKKP), led by its President Datin Dr Jeanette Tambakau, yesterday paid a courtesy visit State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun at his office in Menara Kinabalu. The meeting served as an introduction to the club's newly elected Board of Directors for the 2025–2026 term and provided an opportunity to share the club's ongoing and upcoming community initiatives under Rotary's guiding motto, Service Above Self. During the engagement, Masidi graciously accepted the club's invitation to be the guest of honour at its 10th anniversary celebration and 11th installation ceremony, which will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Kota Kinabalu, on September 6. The event will also feature fundraising efforts for Seri Mengasih Center, as well as to support the club's projects benefiting B40 communities and rural students. Jeanette expressed appreciation for the productive dialogue. 'We are truly honoured by Datuk Seri Panglima's acceptance and his genuine interest in our mission. This visit allowed us to update him on our flagship projects that have created real impact in Sabah, and to present our plans to further strengthen our efforts in education, health, sanitation, women's empowerment, and environmental conservation.' Key RCKKP initiatives highlighted during the meeting include: • Projek REAL (Rural-Focused English for All): Enhancing English language proficiency in rural schools in collaboration with the Education Department. • Projek Water dan Sanitation: Providing clean water and building toilet facilities in rural villages to improve hygiene and health. • Hope in Sight: Offering cataract surgeries for individuals from B40 communities in partnership with eight other Rotary Clubs in Kota Kinabalu and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. • PearlEmpowered: Equipping women and young girls with entrepreneurship skills to foster economic independence. • Project Kelip-Kelip & Mangrove Rehabilitation: A combined environmental initiative aimed at conserving firefly habitats, restoring mangrove forests, protecting coastal ecosystems, raising biodiversity awareness, and supporting sustainable livelihoods in eco-tourism for local communities.
