Hopeless Records Acquires Fat Wreck Chords Catalog in New Partnership
Punk rock record label Hopeless Records has closed on a deal to acquire the catalog of Fat Wreck Chords — the label co-founded by NOFX's Fat Mike and Erin Kelly-Burkett — the two companies announced on Wednesday. The companies didn't disclose financial details of the purchase. As part of the deal, Hopeless and Fat Wreck Chords said that all the unrecouped balances for Fat Wreck's roster will be cleared. Also as part of the deal, Hopeless has agreed to a 'no-new-signings policy' that the companies said would ensure all focus and resources stay on FAT's existing roster. Fat Mike (real name Michael John Burkett) and Kelly-Burkett will retain ownership of Fat Wreck Chords' name, logo and trademark. Fat Wreck Chords, meanwhile, has been home for artists including NOFX and Rise Against since its launch in 1990. In their announcement, Posen, Fat Mike and Kelly-Burkett describe the new partnership as a 'full-circle moment' given their nearly 30 years of friendship. Posen, originally a music video director, first met Fat Mike after reaching out to direct a video for the NOFX song 'Bob,' and Mike and Kelly-Burkett later gave Posen guidance on running an indie label. '\Without Fat Wreck Chords, there would be no Hopeless,' the companies said in their announcement. 'The opportunity to lead the history, catalog, and roster of Fat Wreck Chords into the future, alongside Mike and Erin, is the honor and privilege of my 30-year career,' Posen said in a statement. 'We are incredibly grateful that Mike and Erin have entrusted the Hopeless team to care for their 35 years of passion and hard work. 'I don't know when it will fully sink in, but we are deeply committed to honoring and continuing the remarkable history of Fat Wreck Chords.' Fat Mike said that his label had been in touch with several other companies about a potential deal over the past three years, but that after looking around 'Erin and I realized that Hopeless was the only choice.' 'We've been friends with Louis for over 30 years and he is someone who always seems to doing things for the greater good,' he said. 'I completely trust his ethics and acumen with the legacy of Fat Wreck Chords.' Kelly-Burkett called the deal 'one of the biggest decisions I've ever made,' but also 'one of the most exciting.' 'FAT has been my baby for 35 years,' she said. 'To me, it's more than a label; it's a community, a home, and a legacy built from the ground up. Louis understands that, and I can't think of anyone better than Hopeless to carry FAT forward. As a true fan, Louis knows firsthand what FAT is all about, and will build on the foundation Mike and I laid with care and respect. These bands are my family, and I know they're in good hands with the Hopeless family.' Michael Clifford Enlists Porter Robinson For New Single ‘Kill Me For Always'
Michael Clifford has continued the rollout of his freshly-minted solo career with the release of his third single, 'Kill Me For Always'. The follow-up to his Waterparks collaboration 'Give Me A Break!' from last month sees him working with another American act – this time producer and singer Porter Robinson, marking the first time that the pair have worked together on a song. 'Kill For Me Always' also serves as the opening track to Clifford's forthcoming debut solo album, Sidequest. In a press statement, Clifford noted that Robinson had been his 'favourite artist for a really long time'. 'The idea of us creating something together was just a pipe dream to me,' he said. 'Kill Me For Always' was a song that took a lot of trial and error to get this song 100% right. As the first track off my upcoming album, I think it perfectly sets the tone of the beginning of a story.' A lyric video for the single has also been shared, with animation by Conor Murphy and artwork by Audrey Mai. Sidequest is set for release on Friday, July 25th via Hopeless Records. It will mark the third solo album from a member of 5 Seconds Of Summer to be released in the last 12 months, with drummer Ashton Irwin sharing his second solo effort Blood On The Drums in July 2024 and bassist Calum Hood releasing his solo debut Order Chaos Order earlier this month. The latter album debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, becoming the second 5SOS alum to do so following frontman Luke Hemmings doing so in 2021 with When Facing The Things We Turn Away From. Robinson, meanwhile, toured Australia back in March in support of his third studio album, SMILE! . While in the country, he and his band visited the triple j studios to participate in Like A Version – where they covered Fontaines D.C.'s 2024 single 'Favourite', as well as performing his song 'Cheerleader'. He is set to conclude a North American DJ tour in Toronto next month. 5SOS' Ashton Irwin: 'There's A Different Type Of Masculinity In Australia That Really Crippled My Physical Identity' Porter Robinson & Madeon On The Beauty Of Being On Stage Together & The Influence Of Japanese Culture On Their Music 5SOS On The 'Lightness' Of 'CALM', Learning To Understand Each Other & Why This Album Is For The Fans The post Michael Clifford Enlists Porter Robinson For New Single 'Kill Me For Always' appeared first on Music Feeds.

5 Seconds of Summer's Michael Clifford Launches Solo Career With ‘Cool'
Michael Clifford, the lead guitarist of Australian pop-rock outfit 5 Seconds of Summer, has become the latest member of the band to embark on a solo career, with debut single 'Cool' launching his new journey. The track follows in much the same vein as what fans of 5 Seconds of Summer may have expected from a Clifford solo venture, with 'Cool' capturing the polished rock sound he's become associated with and pairing it with more introspective songwriting. 'I've been deliberating on this music long enough, so I can't wait for everybody to hear it— and 'cool' is just the beginning of what's to come. 'I want this project to make people smile,' he added. 'I'm just out here doing a bunch of sidequests. Now that I'm a dad, everything other than that feels like a sidequest!' Released via the pop-punk label Hopeless Records, 'Cool' is a taster of Clifford's forthcoming debut album, SIDEQUEST, which will be detailed at length in the near future. The track was co-written by Clifford alongside his bandmate Calum Hood, and features co-production from acclaimed musicians JT Daly and Andrew Goldstein. It also comes accompanied by a Bobby Hanaford-directed music video. 5 Seconds of Summer first formed in Sydney, Australia in 2011 and released their self-titled debut album in 2014. All five of the band's albums have peaked atop the Australia ARIA charts, while only 2020's Calm and 2022's 5SOS5 prevented the same feat on the Billboard 200, with the records reaching a very respectable peak of No. 2. Members of the six-time ARIA Award-winning group began launching solo careers following the release of Calm, with drummer Ashton Irwin releasing his Superbloom album in 2020, with second album Blood on the Drums arriving in July 2024. Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Hemmings would follow suit in 2021 with his debut album When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, following it up with the Boy EP in April 2024. Currently, bassist Hood is the only member of the group to have not issued solo material, though he has been active in the fields of songwriting, composition, and production.
