In a new interview on the Zach Sang Show posted Tuesday (May 6), the K-pop star opened up about how he and his bandmates had to go through the sometimes difficult process of evolving as individuals and solo artists amid BTS' break, during which the guys enlisted in the South Korean military while releasing music independent of the band. 'In order to make music as a team in a healthy way, as each of us are making their own music, we each go through personal growth and growing pains that come with it,' j-hope explained. More from Billboard 'We learn many things,' he continued. 'And then when we reunite after doing our own things, these experiences will fill us with new strength and energy. And now that's very soon. Everyone has grown while pursuing their solo projects. I think that will contribute to the music we create as BTS.' The interview comes nearly seven months after j-hope was discharged from the military, becoming the second member of BTS to finish his service requirements after Jin. ‘18 months changed me': BTS' J-Hope reflects on life post-military and OT7 reunion in new Apple Music interview
BTS' second-oldest member J-Hope believes that the group's solo projects, their time spent alone in the military, and their individual identities will make BTS an even greater force when they finally return as one true seven in 2025. The countdown to the South Korean boy band's comeback has already begun, with Jin and J-Hope already resuming activities post-military. In a new interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Hobi, for the first time, opened up about everything—from his military experience and how it changed him, to his solo projects, tours, and finally the most googled question: when is BTS coming back? The singer took his time and discussed how each member's solo journey helped expand their horizons, giving each of them more stories to tell and space to create diverse music. BTS J-Hope says, 'I returned as a changed person' Before BTS' enlistment, there was a lot of chaos in South Korea, with officials even considering giving the boy band a special exemption from mandatory service due to their massive impact on the global music industry and the benefits they brought to South Korea in terms of tourism and other sectors. However, the members themselves showed interest in serving the country. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, J-Hope was asked about his time serving, to which the K-pop idol responded, 'I think it's only natural for young people in South Korea to take on this responsibility,' adding that he views himself as a proud citizen. 'I thought it was a very important part of J-Hope's, or Jung Ho Seok's, life.' J-Hope revealed that military life changed a lot for him and that he now sees things differently. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO 'It's a different experience, also, in reality, I've learned a different life,' he continued. ' And in many ways, I got to meet people from all walks of life and I received a lot of good energy. And I heard a lot of good things. But also, you know, a year and a half is actually not a very short time. That bit made me feel a lot of things. In the end, I think the most important thing was I realised how important the work I've been doing for all these years is incredibly meaningful to me.' J-Hope revealed that although he's loved music since childhood and has always been passionate about making it, after enlisting in the military, one thing he realised was that no matter what happens or where he goes, a part of him will never leave music. 'Even though I was in the service, I think there was a part of me who never really let go of my love for music.' Hobi kicked off his solo journey before enlisting with Jack in the Box, followed by the release of Hope on the Street Vol. 1, and now, he's enjoying the success of his sold-out world tours. BTS' J-Hope on group's comeback In the same interview, J-Hope also shared his excitement for June. Fans are just as eager, as it marks the time when all members—V, Jimin, RM, Jungkook, Suga, Jin, and J-Hope—will reunite. With each of them having advanced their solo careers, J-Hope grinned at the thought of the 'massive synergy' the group will bring when they come together again. The members will return with fresh experiences to share. 'We will quickly get together and talk about what BTS can do in the future,' he told Lowe. 'I think it's going to be a massive energy.'

BTS' J-Hope hints at band's reunion after concluding military service: ‘It's going to be a massive energy'
Boy band BTS was at the top of their game before all seven members enlisted for mandatory Korean military service in 2023, pausing the production of their albums and stage performances. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Taehyung, Jimin, and Jungkook are likely to reunite by the end of July 2025. Most members are out of military service and the remaining ones will complete their service by June this year. Meanwhile, band member J-Hope has shared an update on the same. In a recent interaction with Teen Vogue, J-Hope spoke about the possibility of a BTS reunion and said, 'I look forward to June when our members will have completed their service.' In South Korea, all eligible male citizens are required to perform mandatory military service between the age of 18 and 35. J-Hope completed his military service last year in October. J-Hope showed excitement about reuniting with his band members. He said, 'We will quickly get together and talk about what BTS can do in the future. I think it's going to be a massive energy.' ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO Ever since BTS disbanded temporarily for its members to participate in military service, the members have been focusing on their own endeavours, with many releasing personal albums and launching personal brands. J-Hope too hopped on the same trend and dropped his first solo soundtrack, Hope on the Street Vol. 1, in 2024. He had earlier released his first solo full-length album, Jack in the Box, in 2022. Talking about the changes the band members have gone through during the time they pursued their personal goals, he said, 'I think that over time, we each refined our unique identities as each of us work on their own music, come out with their solo projects and do their own thing. The funny thing for me is when our identities, which have taken shape in various ways, come together as BTS, I'm curious to see how it'll look like.' BTS hasn't released a full-fledged album in the last five years. However, fans are expecting the band to release some new tracks in the near future. As per reports, BTS might return with a full album and a world tour in 2025, but given that this will need a lot of planning given the members personal commitments, their agency previously stated that an album and reunion might happen in 2026.
