Embark on a peatland adventure with Féile an Dúlra this week
The Irish Peatland Conservation Council (IPCC) has planned a busy summer of peatland and nature-themed events as part of Féile an Dúlra 2025, the council's festival of nature. The festival kicked off on World Wetlands Day in February with the launch of the national 'Hop to It' frog survey, and was followed in April by World Curlew Day. A week of free events has been planned as part of National Biodiversity Week, running until May 25. Today (Saturday, May 17), the IPCC will hold a guided peatland nature walk to Lodge Bog in Co. Kildare, starting from the Bog of Allen Nature Centre at 10:00a.m. IPCC guides will share the diversity of peatland birds that use this raised bog for nesting or feeding, and visitors will also get the opportunity to discover the variety of fascinating peatland plants. From Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23 10:00 a.m.-4:00p.m., there will be free admission to the Bog of Allen Nature Centre, where the history, cultural traditions, flora and fauna and archaeological importance of peatlands can be discovered within the peatland exhibition. The peat-free wildlife gardens will also be open, allowing visitors to explore the largest public display of carnivorous plants in Ireland and the UK. On Tuesday, May 20 at 11:00a.m, the IPCC will host a butterfly walk at Lullymore West nature reserve. Lullymore West is known nationally as a butterfly haven, as 26 of Ireland's 35 butterfly species have been recorded on the site, including the threatened marsh fritillary butterfly. In collaboration with the Native Woodland Trust, the IPCC will guide a walk and talk at Girley Bog on Wednesday, May 21, meeting at Girley Hall at 7:00p.m. This will provide an opportunity to learn all about bog habitats and the various plants and animals that call this precious habitat home. For those who do not have time to join one of the biodiversity walks, there is still an opportunity to learn about peatland biodiversity as the IPCC will host an online talk at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 22, titled 'Lunchtime with IPCC'. All the events are free and people are encouraged to get involved and explore their peatland heritage for Biodiversity Week. The IPCC has lots more events planned for later this summer, with a bat walk on June 20, International Bog Day on July 26 and Heritage Week from August 16.

Easter Dinner on a Budget: Which Watertown store offers the best prices?
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – With Easter Dinner just around the corner and grocery prices going crazy, you may be asking yourself what grocery store is the cheapest or even who has the best price on eggs! Well, no need to worry, InformNNY has done the calculations for you. Easter Dinner on a Budget: Which Watertown store offers the best prices? Judge scolds DOJ for demanding delay in mistakenly deported man case Sheriff: Walmart employee kills co-worker in Georgia store North country weather: Friday, April 11, 2025 Why caddies at the Masters wear white jumpsuits When it comes to grocery shopping in Watertown, we have a few options. ALDI, Price Chopper, Hannaford, Target, and Walmart are on Arsenal Street. Grand Union is situated in the Seaway Shopping Center, where Top's used to be, on the city's Northside. Northland Plaza is where Save-A-Lot is located on State St. The other former Top's location across from the high school on Washington Street has Piggly Wiggly. That gives you eight options within the city… So, who's cheaper? InformNNY has determined the amount of each ingredient required and the cost of feeding 10 to 12 people for Easter from each of the eight stores. We will also provide a maximum savings table for anyone willing to do a little store hopping. The recipes that were used can be found in our article — Hop to It: Quick and Delicious Recipes for Your Easter Gathering. The table is located at the bottom of the article. So, let's analyze! Believe it or not, Target is the cheapest overall. It is missing cloves and fresh parsley; the cloves are needed for the ham and the parsley is included with the oven-roasted carrots. You can choose not to use these items, and your meal will not be ruined. Target's ham price is in a three-way tie for second place, coming in at $.99 per pound. Target does have one of the higher asparagus prices at 4.99 per pound. The Eggs are not too bad here, coming in at $4.99 for a dozen, it is one of the lower prices for eggs locally. If you purchase everything from Target, you can expect to spend about $85.14. Easter Dinner Safety 101: How to avoid food poisoning Hannaford sneaks in at second place for the overall cheapest. Unlike at Target, all the items you need are available at Hannaford. It also has the cheapest ham out of the eight locations, coming in at $.79 per pound. However, just like Target, the asparagus is 4.99 per pound. A dozen eggs at Hannaford will cost you $5.39, which is higher but not the highest. The total from Hannaford will come in at about $85.72. Aldi takes third place overall; however, it is missing cloves and basic table salt and pepper shakers. Which again, if you want to forget the cloves, you can and most of us have salt and pepper shakers, so it's not that big of a deal. Aldi does have the cheapest asparagus at $1.95 per pound. It does have one of the more expensive hams as an 8-pound ham is going to cost a little over $19. A dozen eggs will set you back $5.49. Aldi shoppers are going to spend about $88.05 in total. North Country Easter Guide Walmart sits nicely in fourth place. The ham at Walmart is going to take almost $19 out of your pocket, but it has the cheapest eggs, $4.97 per dozen, and the second cheapest asparagus, $1.97 per pound. Walmart shoppers are going to spend about $90.41 for Easter Dinner. Save-A-Lot is fourth from the bottom and parsley. But it's not a super important ingredient, so you can just skip it. The price for ham at Save-A-Lot is $1.69 per pound, which is a little over double the price from Hannaford. Eggs and asparagus are on the higher side, costing $5.49 for a dozen and 3.99 per pound, respectively. Your total Easter Dinner cost is approx. $102.08. Grand Union is the third most expensive store. However, it is in a three-way tie for second-cheapest ham at $.99 per pound. Eggs and asparagus sit in the higher price range, costing $6.29 for a dozen eggs and $4.99 per pound for the asparagus. Grand Union shoppers are going to spend about $111.93. Easter prep with ABC 50: DIY dyeing for potatoes and marshmallow alternatives Piggly Wiggly is the second most expensive store overall. However, it is in a three-way tie for second-cheapest ham at $.99 per pound. Eggs and asparagus sit in the middle of the road, costing $4.99 for a dozen eggs and $3.49 per pound for the asparagus. Piggly Wiggly shoppers will spend about $112.78. Price Chopper is the most expensive; shoppers can expect to spend a little more than $113. They have both the highest price for ham and eggs, sitting at $3.19 per pound and $6.49 for a dozen eggs. The asparagus will also set you back $3.99 per pound. Now for those of you willing to do a little store-hopping. If you include all eight stores and you get the cheapest of everything, your total knocks down to $58.95. If you only want to deal with the five stores on Arsenal St., you can get the price to $59.78. Store-hoppers can save over $20 overall.
