MasterChef fans upset after 'iconic' moment cut from the show: 'Sad'
This year's season of MasterChef has certainly had its fair share of backlash, many people aren't loving the judges, the contestants or even the challenges. But there's one thing people have been talking about since 2023. That's right, the beloved theme song! MasterChef fans loved (or loved to hate) hearing Katy Perry's 'Hot N Cold' before each episode for 14 seasons, with each of the contestants getting their own moment to shine and being shown doing random things in the kitchen. The pop track became so synonymous with the series that the hitmaker herself made an appearance as a guest judge on season 12 in 2020, surprising contestants and viewers alike. However, Channel 10 made the unexpected decision to remove the intro altogether for the show's fifteenth season, with the home cooks no longer flipping frying pans or throwing flour at the camera. We're now in our third season without the theme song, and fans are still sad about it. One Reddit user wrote this week, "I miss the intro," adding they loved seeing all the contestants looking happy while in the kitchen, describing it as giving the show "energetic vibes before starting an episode". "One of my favourite parts of the series," another agreed, jokingly adding, "I guess they couldn't pay for the rights now that Katy needs astronaut money." "Truly missed," a third said. "I loved seeing them doing fun stuff!" "More than the song, I'm missing the slo-mo intro sequence of contestants having fun on camera," someone else added. "This is a good way to learn who is who." "Having no music and introductions gives us more air time with the judges and the cooks," one viewer said, with another responding, "Or more ads!" "It was so unfitting, yet so iconic," another quipped. "I miss it! I sing it to myself every time the episode starts," one person shared. "I can handle a different song, but I feel the intro sequence is a vibe and I'm sad they've changed it," yet another wrote. A source told Yahoo Lifestyle at the time that Channel 10 decided to drop the theme song in 2023 because, as some viewers had speculated, the licensing fees became too expensive after using it for 14 years. Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the network said 'the decision was made to get into the action faster at the top of each episode'. Interestingly, international viewers would be unaware that 'Hot n Cold' has been used as the theme song as it has always been replaced with a different song for copyright reasons. Instead, MasterChef Australia airs in India, Canada, the UK, the Middle East and New Zealand, among other countries, with an untitled pop song containing the lyrics: 'Burning up in my heart, like a flame, like a bright shooting star.' The Channel Seven cooking competition used Kesha's hit song 'Tik Tok' as its theme from seasons 1 to 3 before replacing it with Justice Crew's 'Best Night' and ultimately dropping an intro altogether. Meanwhile, the renovation series House Rules went through three different pop songs by OneRepublic, Little Mix and American Authors until they decided not to have an intro. Farmer Wants A Wife also cycled through pop tracks by Ronan Keating, Taylor Swift, Michael Bublé, Calvin Harris and Jason Derulo before they stopped using a theme song in 2020.

Katy Perry Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction, Bra Snaps Off During Live Show
Last Updated: Katy Perry handled a wardrobe malfunction professionally during her Las Vegas show on May 17. Despite the mishap, she continued performing seamlessly. American singer Katy Perry handled a wardrobe malfunction during her Las Vegas live performance on May 17 with the utmost professionalism. The Harleys In Hawaii singer is currently on tour for her seventh studio album, 143. The incident occurred while she was performing her 2010 hit, Part of Me, at the T-Mobile Arena. In a video going viral, Perry was seen running across the stage when the clasp of her bejewelled bra broke. Despite the mishap, the pop star remained composed and continued her performance with the same zeal. 'Oh, sh**, my bra's going to come off," Perry joked to the crowd as her band continued with an instrumental break. She navigated through her stilt-walking backup dancers, maintaining high energy despite the malfunction. At one point, she called out to her assistant, Patrick, asking him to 'put her bra back on." However, she danced through the moment, flaunting the flapping straps of the malfunctioning costume piece. Showing the confidence gained from over 15 years in the pop industry, Perry seamlessly resumed her choreography once her bra was secured, starting from where she had left – the chorus of Part of Me. Katy Perry is no stranger to wardrobe malfunctions During the filming of American Idol last year, the Hot N Cold singer experienced a significant wardrobe issue, causing her to duck under the judges' table and cover herself with a pillow. In one Instagram video, she joked, 'I need my top to stay on. If it's not fixed, this show is going to get more than it wanted." Since April, Katy Perry has been on the road for her seventh studio album, embarking on The Lifetimes Tour—named after its lead single. The tour started in Mexico City and is set to span the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe, with short stops in China and the United Arab Emirates. It is scheduled to wrap up in December. First Published:

MasterChef's best moments, from Katy Perry to white chocolate veloute
In the end, John didn't even finish it, instead handing a block of white chocolate to next-in-line Amy. John's idea crashed and burnt. But his legend lived on. Loading Jess and Sashi getting on like a recipe on fire There are two ingredients that make MasterChef great: friendship and fire. We had both in one very special elimination challenge in season 10, when eventual winner Sashi Cheliah set his recipe on fire. While this is a natural response to being asked to make 'sherried marron', in this case it was actually an accident which left Sashi in a tight spot: having to make an insanely complex dish with no instructions. Thankfully, guardian angel Jess Liemantara came to the rescue, letting Sashi look at her recipe and saving him from disaster. 'That is disgusting... disgustingly good' Season two contestant Aaron Harvie's stomach seemed to drop all the way into his shoes when judge Matt Preston tasted his pasta back in 2010. 'Quite frankly, that is disgusting,' Preston said, before throwing the plate to the floor. After what felt like the longest ad break in the history of television, Preston continued: '… disgustingly GOOD!' Ever since, every MasterChef judge has on multiple occasions 'pulled a Preston' and tried a bit of wacky misdirection – but none have ever done it as memorably, or as weirdly, as the OG. John Hughes' non-plate Adelaide winemaker John Hughes, who has cerebral palsy, was a fan favourite from the moment he entered the MasterChef kitchen in season three. John brought quiet determination to everything he did, but his standout moment was one in which he made failure feel like triumph. After a pressure test in which he attempted to prepare a selection of desserts, Hughes stepped up to the judges' table empty-handed and announced he would not be serving anything. 'When I cook for my family and friends I produce quality and I put my heart and soul into it,' he said, explaining that if he didn't believe his dish was good enough for family and friends, it wasn't good enough to serve here. Judges, contestants and guest chef Maggie Beer applauded John for his courage in putting himself up for elimination rather than compromise his commitment to quality, and so did viewers at home. MasterChef is a show filled with emotion, but no moment has been as raw in its honesty and, in a strange way, as inspirational as John's non-plate. Katy Perry makes an appearance Katy Perry's 2008 hit Hot N Cold has been inseparable from MasterChef since its very beginning, the bouncy ditty accompanying the obligatory intro shots of contestants holding cakes or throwing flour in the air in slow motion. So it was a spectacular thrill when the superstar herself showed up to be a guest judge during season 12. The appearance was hyped to heaven in advance, so it wasn't a surprise to see Perry. But it was surprising to see just how much fun she was. Maybe she's just a great actor, but the singer showed such enthusiasm for the show and engaged so genuinely one-on-one with the contestants that even sceptics like me were won over. She should come back every year. Peter Gilmore's snow egg In season one, we thought the croquembouche was as nightmarish as desserts could get. But the season two finale showed us what sweet young fools we were when Peter Gilmore presented Adam Liaw and Callum Hann with the snow egg: a breathtaking confection made of meringue and fruit and the ghosts of unicorns. After months of gruelling challenges in which they were asked to be expert chefs, Liaw and Hann were suddenly asked to become sorcerers. The results were brilliant, but perhaps the greatest spectacle was the beautiful bond between the finalists, growing from their shared ordeal at the hands of the egg.

Katy Perry feels ‘battered and bruised' by backlash post-Blue Origin flight
Katy Perry is addressing the backlash she's received following the all-female Blue Origin space flight she took part in earlier this month, along with journalist Gayle King and billionaire Jeff Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sánchez. In the comment section of a Katy Perry Brasil fan page post on Instagram, the pop star wrote a lengthy message on April 29, assuring fans that she is doing well amid the criticism she's received in the last few weeks. Under a post featuring a billboard for Perry's 'Lifetimes Tour,' which began on April 23 in New Mexico, the star thanked fans for their support, writing, 'I'm so grateful for you guys. We're in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond.' 'Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me,' the Hot N Cold singer continued. Story continues below advertisement She said that her therapist told her something years ago 'that has been a game changer,' adding, ''No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don't already believe about yourself' and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it's an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.' 'When the 'online' world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,' she wrote. I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that.' Story continues below advertisement Perry said she's 'not perfect' and that she has 'omitted that word from my vocabulary.' 'I'm on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but … I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS,' her commented concluded. 4:21 Katy Perry, Gayle King among all-female flight crew to launch into space on Blue Origin The 40-year-old performer has also received online hate for showcasing a series of space-like themed outfits during her new tour as many fans thought the outfits were a nod to the pop star's space journey. Her dance routines — also space-themed — were the target of mockery as well. But many celebrities shared their reactions to the flight, including actor Olivia Munn, who accused Perry and the crew of being 'gluttonous' by taking the trip. 'What are they doing?' Munn said while guest co-hosting Today With Jenna & Friends on April 3. 'I know this probably isn't the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.' 'I know this is probably obnoxious,' she continued, 'but like, it's so much money to go to space, and there's a lot of people who can't even afford eggs.' Munn said the nearly 11-minute flight resulted in 'a lot of resources being spent,' adding, 'What's the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it's a bit gluttonous.' Reality TV star Gabby Windey addressed the flight in an episode of her Long Winded podcast, saying, 'OK, Katy Perry going to space. All women crew. Oh, wow, we're gonna send all the girls to space in case they blow up. This is not about empowerment. This is a case study.' Story continues below advertisement 'You're gonna risk your life for a 10-minute flight? No way,' Windey added. 'Oh, you want to see Mother Earth? Have you heard of Google Earth? It's the same.' Model Emily Ratajkowski shared her thoughts on TikTok, saying, 'That space mission this morning, that's end-time sh–. Like, this is beyond parody.' 'Saying that you care about Mother Earth, and it's about Mother Earth, and going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that's single-handedly destroying the planet? Look at the state of the world, and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space, and for what?' she asked, adding, 'What was the marketing there? And then to try to make it like … I'm disgusted. Literally, I'm disgusted.' Story continues below advertisement Comedian Amy Schumer shared a video to Instagram, joking that she had been added to 'space' last second. 'I'm bringing this thing,' Schumer said, showing a Black Panther toy, mocking all the items the women on the flight brought to space. 'It has no meaning to me, but it was in my bag, and I was on the subway, and I got the text, and they were like, 'Do you want to go to space?' so I'm going to space.' Fast-food chain Wendy's even got in on the action and asked if they could send Perry back to space in response to a post announcing that the singer had returned to Earth. Story continues below advertisement 'I'm a woman send me to space,' the Wendy's account added. 'When we said women in stem this isn't what we meant.' I'm a woman send me to space — Wendy's (@Wendys) April 15, 2025 When we said women in stem this isn't what we meant — Wendy's (@Wendys) April 15, 2025 Story continues below advertisement King has also addressed the criticism following the flight and took aim at people referring to the mission as 'a ride' saying, 'You never see a man, a male astronaut, who's going up in space and they say, 'Oh, he took a ride.' It's always referred to as a flight or a journey, so I feel that's a little disrespectful to what the mission was and the work Blue Origin does.' King told Extra that she isn't letting the 'haters' bring her down. 'I know there are cranky Yankees, I know there are some haters, but I'm not gonna let people steal my joy and steal the joy of what we did or what we accomplished that day,' she said. 'I'm just not going to let it in. I'm not. And these are some of my friends that are throwing shade!'
