Minister asks engineers to complete Palair UT work on a war-footing to give water by July 10
HYDERABAD Minister for Revenue, Housing and Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has instructed the irrigation authorities of Khammam district to complete the work of under tunnel (UT) to carry water from Nagarjunasagar Left Canal to Palair reservoir on a war-footing so that water could be released by July 10 this year. During the surprise inspection of the ongoing construction work on Friday, he said completion of the work would ensure reliable water supply to about 4 lakh acres ayacut in Khammam district by carrying Nagarjunsagar water to Palair reservoir from the coming Kharif season itself. He inspected the work at Jujjularaopeta in Kusumanchi mandal. Speaking at the site, he said the UT of the main canal carrying water from Nagarjunasagar Left Canal to Palair reservoir was washed away in the heavy rains in September last year. Some temporary arrangements were made to give water to the ayacut last year. The construction of new UT along with repairs to the main canal was taken up with ₹14.2 crore. The Palair reservoir would serve an ayacut of 4 lakh acres in Khammam district, including 1.33 lakh acres in Palair constituency itself, he stated. The Minister asked the engineers to execute work in two shifts every day for its speedy completion, keeping in mind the rainy season ahead.

Govt. to train, issue licenses to 5,000 surveyors soon to implement new land records law properly
HYDERABAD The Telangana government has decided to strengthen the Survey, Settlement and Land Records department by making available about 5,000 licensed surveyors soon as part of its plans to settle the land disputes pending for long and offer improved services to people, particularly the landholding farmers. According to Minister for Revenue, Housing and Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, those interested in land surveying and planning to get a licence from the government would be required to apply for training by May 17 so that the department could provide them training. The present availability of 402 surveyors would not be sufficient to realise the objectives of the new Land Administration Act. He stated that the role of the survey wing would be crucial in the implementation of Bhu Bharati Act brought in by the government since it had been mandatory to attach the land map along with the registration documents as part of the land registration process. The government was also planning to fill the vacancies of surveyors within the department along with issuing licences to private surveyors after proper training. The government was also planning to procure and bring into use modern land survey tools — equipment used for surveying lands, the Minister said at a review meeting of the Survey, Settlement and Land Records departments held here on Friday. The applicants for the land surveyors' training and licence would be required to have at least Intermediate qualification with 60% marks and mathematics as one of the subjects or those who have completed Draftsman (Civil) from the ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes), Diploma (Civil), B. Tech (Civil) or any other equivalent qualification. The training fee for unreserved categories' candidates would be ₹10,000 followed by ₹5,000 for backward classes' candidates and ₹2,500 for those for SC and ST categories. Those selected for the training would be given training in all district headquarters for 50 working days by the Telangana Academy for Land Information and Management. Principal Secretary (Revenue) Navin Mittal, Commissioner of Survey, Settlement and Land Records Jyoti Buddha Prakash, CCLA Project Director M. Makarandu and others attended the meeting.
