The Brief A United flight heading to Germany returned to Bush Airport on Saturday night. Houston fire officials found no issues with the plane. The flight was eventually canceled. HOUSTON - United Airlines says they're assisting customers after canceling a flight due to a plane issue. What we know The issue happened on United flight UA46, which was set to fly from Bush Airport to Frankfurt Airport in Germany. The flight reportedly took off at about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, but officials with the Houston Airport System say the plane landed back at Bush at about 7:45 p.m. Houston fire officials say they were alerted about the plane having a mechanical issue. They had a crew waiting for the plane to return to Bush. Fire officials say the plane landed safely, and no smoke or flames were seen. United Airlines confirmed with FOX 26 that the flight was canceled that night. What we don't know There's no information on the "maintenance issue" itself. What they're saying United Airlines sent the following statement to FOX 26: "On May 31, United flight 46 from Houston to Frankfurt safely returned to Houston to address a maintenance issue. The plane had to release fuel to avoid landing overweight. The flight cancelled last night, and we expect to reaccommodate our customers and get them on their way." 3-alarm fire burns at apartment complex near Synott Road, Ashford Point

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - Houston Fire Department units are battling a large fire at an apartment complex in the west Houston-area. What we know According to police, the fire is located at the Magnolia Terrace Apartments at 3939 Synott Road near Ashford Point Drive. Assistant Chief James Campbell of Houston Fire Department reports the initial alarm came in at 5:33 a.m. Get news, weather and so much more on the new FOX LOCAL app One building was impacted with the fire going through the room. Units did their best to contain the flames in one building with 24 units, however two other buildings did receive some damage. No injuries have been reported as the fire was upgraded to a three-alarm. Crews are at the scene to look at the structural integrity of the building as parts of the roof have collapsed and there are floors inside collapsing, as well. Firefighters will continue searching inside once it is deemed safe to go back inside. What we don't know The origin of the fire is unknown and will be investigated. HOUSTON - One man was hospitalized after Houston police officers came across the scene of a shooting in the Washington Corridor early Monday morning, officials say. What we know Houston Police Department officers reported hearing gunshots in the 5300 block of Washington Avenue Officers working an extra job also reported there was gunfire near Clutch Bar and Sidebar. In the area, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police applied a tourniquet and found another gunshot wound to the man's abdomen. What we know On Friday, the Houston Fire Department announced the passing of 97-year-old Milton Alford. Officials say he passed away on Tuesday. Alford was hired by the department in 1955 as one of 10 Black firefighters in an inaugural class. According to the fire department, Milton Alford served for almost 27 years and retired as an inspector. What we don't know As of Saturday, there is no information regarding Milton Alford's funeral services. What they're saying "I ask Houstonians to join me in honoring Mr. Alford's life and legacy. He was a trailblazer who broke barriers and paved the way for generations of firelighters. His journey required sacrifice, courage, and commitment. Israa Farhan A shooting at a house party in southeast Houston early Sunday morning left at least one person dead and up to 14 others injured, according to the Houston Police Department. Officers began receiving emergency calls around 12:50 a.m. reporting gunfire in the Cherry Hill area. Assistant Police Chief Patricia Cantu told reporters during a press briefing that police arrived within minutes to find multiple victims with gunshot wounds scattered around the property. The incident took place during a family gathering. According to investigators, an uninvited guest was asked to leave the event but allegedly returned and opened fire. Other attendees reportedly responded by firing back, turning the party into a chaotic and deadly scene. The Houston Fire Department also responded to the incident. At least one fatality was confirmed at the scene, while several of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition and undergoing emergency surgeries.
