Texans CB Kamari Lassiter impressing in early stages of OTAs
Kamari Lassiter might be ready for a Pro Bowl season and join his All-Pro counterpart Derek Stingley Jr. in the spotlight this fall. Lassiter, the Houston Texans' second-year No. 2 cornerback, set the tone as the No. 42 pick in last year's draft, totaling 11 pass breakups and three interceptions. He arguably was the best rookie corner in the league while helping Houston produce a top 10 secondary and a second consecutive AFC South division title. Advertisement Offseason team activities might be overblown in the public eye, but Lassiter is living up to expecations once more. Last year, he caught everyone's attention winning his one-on-one battles against All-Pro Stefon Diggs. He did the same thing during team drills while guarding Pro Bowler Nico Collins during seven-on-seven drills. He broke up a pair of passes with Davis Mills under center in stride with the two-time 1,000-yard receiver. Lassiter also broke a pass intended for John Metchie III when lined up inside. Everyone, including teammates, is paying close attention to his growth, along with teammate and defensive back Calen Bullock. 'It is fun watching them. They love football, they are passionate about it," Will Anderson said following practice. "You hear Kamari slapping his helmet. You hear Calen running to him. That is what you need on a defense like this. We play an attack style defense, and we have two attackers in the backend that don't mind getting their hands dirty.' Advertisement Lassiter is only 20 percent of the secondary that could lead the NFL in takeaways this fall. Stingley, who recently became the highest-paid defensive back after his dominant season, will line up on the opposing side. Bullock will have a new running mate after Houston traded former first-round pick Kenyon Green to Philadelphia in exchange for do-it-all safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The Texans also have back a fully healthy Jalen Pitre, who arguably was the most improved player last season, will command respect in the nickel position. If Lassiter's success in OTAs can carry over to Week 1's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Houston could be more than just a good front seven and a promising roster that continues to win division titles. Texans reveal first look at new offensive line for upcoming season
Texans reveal first look at new offensive line for upcoming season What will the Houston Texans' offensive line look like in 2025? New offensive coordinator Nick Caley might have just pulled back the curtain a bit on that during the first day of organized team activities. At one point, Cam Robinson started at left tackle, Laken Tomlinson at left guard, Jake Andrews at center, Tytus Howard at right guard and second-round pick Aireontae Ersery at right tackle. Then, Ersery would be flipped with 2024 second-round pick Blake Fisher while he'd replace Robinson on the left side. Juice Scruggs and Jarrett Patterson would flip reps with Tomlinson and Andrews, respectively, while Austin Deculus also saw some first-team reps on the right side. While this isn't the starting lineup heading into the season, it's a baseline on what Caley has to work with after a turnover in talent last season. Entering Day 2 of camp, Caley is just trying to find the right combination of players and where they fit to enhance their craft eventually. 'It will be a lot of mixing and matching guys, putting guys in different spots, and seeing which five guys work well together,' Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. 'One thing about the O-line is that there's a lot of smart guys in that room, and they can move around and play multiple spots, so that helps them." No one is promised a starting role going into the season. No one should be, either. Houston alllowed 54 sacks last season, in 52 against C.J. Stroud. Their 11 sacks in the postseason were the most by any team despite only playing in two games. And eight allowed in the divisional round was the most by any offensive line in a single postseason appearance in franchise history. The Texans retooled their offensive line by parting ways with three starters from last year's squad. Kenyon Green and Laremy Tunsil were traded to NFC East rosters while Shaq Mason was designated as a June 1 cut. Tomlinson and Robinson have been starters since entering the league, though their overall play has been underwhelming in recent years. Ersery and Fisher are hopeful building blocks for the future. Both were top 60 selections coming of Minnesota and Notre Dame over the last two years and the Texans will give them ample time to learn the ins and outs of the offense before they decide to move off them in a different direction. Andrews could be the biggest surprise addition, given his relationship with Popovich. Prior to joining the Texans, Pop worked for Troy as the team's offensive line coach. Andrews started all 13 games, earning first-team All-Sun Belt honors under his watch. The Texans will have six more practices before the start of mandatory minicamp beginning next month. By then, Caley should have a basis of a starting five in the trenches.

Texans Facing Major C.J. Stroud Decision After $300 Million Prediction
As it stands now, the Houston Texans' selection of Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL draft appears to have been an amazing decision. In his first season, Stroud took home Offensive Rookie of the Year after completing 319 of 499 passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 100.8 passer rating. Advertisement With the 2025 season steadily approaching, as the Texans' first game is on the road against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 7, Houston will be looking to make another playoff appearance and win the AFC South for the third straight year. What Stroud has done on the field may soon also result in a massive payday. Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report predicts that next offseason, Stroud will be in line to earn a five-year, $300 million extension, with $240 million guaranteed. Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud (7).Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports That's, of course, a big decision for Houston, as that kind of deal would make him the third-highest-paid quarterback in terms of total value, while also giving him the second-most in guaranteed money, per Spotrac. Advertisement Stroud's numbers in 2024 took a relatively significant dip, as he completed 336 of 532 passes for 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and an 87 passer rating. There's no doubt that after the regression, a contract of the size Gagnon is predicting could be risky, and Stroud's performance in 2025 will become important in determining how the Texans handle a potential extension. A deep playoff run could also prove to be a major factor, especially considering the Texans have been eliminated in the divisional round in each of Stroud's two seasons. Here's your first look at rookie WRs Jayden Higgins & Jaylin Noel in full Texans uniform
Here's your first look at rookie WRs Jayden Higgins & Jaylin Noel in full Texans uniform There's a pair of new weapons in the Houston Texans' offense this season after the two-time AFC South champions doubled down in Cyclone territory to draft Iowa State wideouts Jayden Higgins and Jayiln Noel on Day 2 of last month's draft. Higgins should be featured early on as a rookie, complementing Nico Collins and Christian Kirk as someone who can make plays on the outside as a vertical option. Noel, who likely will be limited in the slot, should eventually become the No. 3 target in the offense and a reliable option on special teams. The Cyclone Bros. won't suit up for their first regular-season game until Sept. 7 but Higgins and Noel were one of the many rookies to participate in the NFLPA Rookie Premiere so fans got a first look at him in Steel Blue home atire. The Texans shared a couple of photos of Higgins and Noel in full uniform from the Rookie Premiere and they look ready to take on a big role in 2025. Higgins also shared some photos of himself in uniform on the X platform, giving fans another look at his No. 81 jersey. Noel didn't waste time, either, making sure to pop in front of the camera in No. 82. The NFLPA posted a photo of the whole group at the Rookie Premiere, including Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty, New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward and Jacksonville Jaguars weapon Travis Hunter. Higgins can be spotted on the left side in the front row, while Higgins is dead center in the third row.
