Can any of the Boston Celtics rookies make an impact next season?
The Summer League Celtics played their last game on Sunday, July 20, defeating the Atlanta Hawks 101-80 to end their time in Las Vegas with a 4-1 record. Throughout the mini-tournament, Celtics fans got a closer look at the team's new rookies, along with some second and third-year players trying to crack Joe Mazzulla's rotation. The overall impression was positive, as each of the three rookies showed flashes of their upside, along with an encouraging team-first mentality. Celtics fans also got to see some of the improvements Jordan Walsh has made to his game, and what Baylor Scheierman can do when asked to create for others. Despite some impressive moments from Boston's rookies, it's clear that all three are still a work in progress. During a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance shared their thoughts on the rookie class and how they can improve and/or make an impact within Mazzulla's rotation once the 2025-26 season gets underway. Could the Boston Celtics sign Charles Bassey to a training camp deal?
Throughout the first three games of Las Vegas Summer League, Charles Bassey quickly endeared himself to Boston Celtics fans around the world. Currently, the Celtics frontcourt looks thin heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, and after some dominant showings, there was hope that Bassey could provide some depth and competition at the center position. However, after his third game with the franchise, Bassey left the Celtics' Summer League roster. He'd only been signed for the first three games in Vegas, reportedly due to other commitments. As such, Bassey's chance of earning an Exhibit 10 contract to continue fighting for a roster spot during training camp and preseason took a significant hit. During a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance discussed whether Bassey could still be given an opportunity to challenge for a roster spot with Boston, or whether his tenure with the franchise is over before it even began. Exploring Rasheer Fleming as a Boston Celtics draft prospect
Exploring Rasheer Fleming as a Boston Celtics draft prospect With the 28th and 32nd picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics have an opportunity to add two new talents to Joe Mazzulla's rotation. Brad Stevens will likely prioritize older prospects with multiple years' worth of collegiate experience under their belt. Older prospects usually enter the league with more polish and are capable of contributing from the jump. In a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance explore the upside of Rasheer Fleming out of St. Joseph's. The 6-foot-9 forward is a third-year collegiate prospect who is coming off a strong season. In 35 games, Fleming averaged 14.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists, shooting 53.1% from the field and 39% from deep. Simone and LaFrance explore how Flemming could fit within Joe Mazzulla's rotation and what aspects of his game need the most work. The duo also debated whether he could earn minutes off Boston's bench next season or would be destined for a season with the Maine Celtics in the G League. What would Koby Brea bring to the Boston Celtics?
What would Koby Brea bring to the Boston Celtics? If you want to succeed in Joe Mazzulla's system, then you must be able to knock down your perimeter shots with a high level of consistency. Therefore, it's fair to assume that Brad Stevens will be looking for talented shooters in the upcoming NBA Draft, where the Boston Celtics hold the 28th and 32nd picks. In a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance explore Koby Brea as a potential prospect. Brea fits perfectly with how the Celtics like to play. His shooting would instantly secure him a spot on the Celtics bench; however, he would still need to prove himself on the defensive end. Brea, 22, is a five-year collegiate product. He spent four seasons with Dayton in the A-10 before transferring to the SEC this past season, where he suited up for Kentucky. Despite the step up in competition, Brea continued to establish himself as an elite shooter. In 36 games, he averaged 11.6 points on 43.5% shooting from 3-point range, taking 5.9 attempts per outing. He leaves his collegiate career behind hi,m having shot 43.4% from deep in 149 total games. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above. Exploring Thomas Sorber as a potential Boston Celtics draft prospect
Exploring Thomas Sorber as a potential Boston Celtics draft prospect One thing that has been missing from the Boston Celtics' bench rotation in recent years is athleticism. Brad Stevens has constructed a roster full of versatile talents, all capable of playing on both sides of the ball. However, outside of Jaylen Brown, no one on the roster has that "jump out of the gym" kind of bounce. Stevens could look to rectify that shortcoming in the upcoming NBA draft. The Celtics have the 28th and 32nd picks and will undoubtedly be hoping to unearth a hidden gem. In a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance explored the possibility of adding Thomas Sorber to the roster. Sorber is a one-and-done prospect out of Georgetown. Sorber, 19, is an athletic forward who does most of his offensive damage as a slasher. He boasts a mind-blowing 7-foot-6 wingspan and plays with force and tenacity. He could add a level of rim-pressure that hasn't been present in the second unit for multiple years. However, his paltry 16.2% success rate from 3-point range could be enough to deter Stevens and the front office. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above.
