The perceived feud between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez is showing no signs of slowing down, although any apparent contention between the two is entirely speculative. Fans think Gomez wrote 'How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten' from her and Benny Blanco's album I Said I Love You First about Bieber. Meanwhile, rumours of discord between Bieber and wife Hailey are rampant online. Justin Bieber at the Grammy Awards in Las Vegas, in 2022. Selena Gomez Seemingly Shaded Justin Bieber In Her New Album, And The Internet Has Some Mixed Opinions About It
If you've been on the internet at ALL in the last fifteen years, you've probably heard some of the lore between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. We all know Selena is now happily engaged to producer Benny Blanco. But before that, she and Justin were an it-couple in the 2010s, dating on and off from 2011 until 2018. Then, just six months after their final breakup, Justin and Hailey Bieber got married. Since then, fans noticed there may be some tension between Hailey and Selena, evolving into an alleged feud. At one point, in 2023, Hailey lost almost a million followers on Instagram because of her alleged "mean girl" behaviour toward Selena. I should also point out that while there has been much conversation about Selena and Hailey's supposed drama, Justin isn't often mentioned. Which is kind of ironic. In addition to the Hailey-Selena discussion, fans have also poked around Justin and Selena's music in efforts to gauge how the two felt about one another, since their relationship was pretty long and public. That includes Selena's 2020 hit "Lose You To Love Me," and Justin Bieber's "Sorry" (which we'll come back to in a minute). So, now that Selena's brand-new album with Benny Blanco is out — "I Said I Love You First" — fans have been it seems like at least two songs could be about Justin. And these lyrics are INTERESTING. So let's get into it, shall we? The first song fans suspect is about Justin is "How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten." The pre-chorus reads: "And you walked in, big-ass grin / Talkin' like we're friends, honey, what were you thinkin'? / He loves me, I love him / Look at you, just look at you now." The chorus is also absolutely FIRE: "You're so embarrassin' / Go cry when no one's watchin' / I can't imagine it / How does it feel to be forgotten?" Of course, this could be about one of Selena's other exes, but the key reason people are convinced it's about Bieber lies in the term "friends." As a source told Life & Style magazine in 2024, Justin supposedly did want to reconcile as friends with Selena last year. Another source said tried to "make peace," but ended up saying "good riddance" after Selena and Benny wouldn't "let it go." "He thinks they're lame and immature, and he's not going to bother trying to be friendly anymore," the second source told In Touch. So if that story is true, we could interpret "How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten" as a reference to Justin's attempts to reconcile. From the sounds of it, Selena and Benny are standing strong together. But that's not all. Fans also think the song "You Said You Were Sorry" could be about Justin. In the song, Selena starts with: "Don't think about you / Happy without you / More now than I ever was," and then she sings: "But I had a dream / You said you were sorry, said you were sorry / Sorry for everything / That you put on me, that you put on me / Our eyes were bawling rain / We finally both forgave ya / I had a dream, that's all it was / Yeah, that was enough for me." Not only does the concept of this song already align with Justin's alleged apology to Selena and Benny in 2024 — but it also connects to Justin's song "Sorry" from 2015 (at the time, Justin confirmed the hit was "a little bit" about Selena). Judging by the lyrics of "You Said You Were Sorry," it sounds like Selena and Benny are indeed past the whole situation, but — as anyone that has come out of a long-term relationship can attest to — she has still wondered what reconciliation might have felt like. Even though Selena Gomez has seemingly clarified the album doesn't necessarily have to do with Justin, it didn't stop people from trying to connect the dots back to him: selena gomez writing about justin bieber with her current fiancée is kinda crazy but the songs are great so — pastel ← leo ꓽꓽ) (@pastelETH) March 22, 2025 Twitter: @pastelETH And follow BuzzFeed Canada on TikTok and Instagram for more!

Why Fans Think Selena Gomez's New Songs "You Said You Were Sorry" and 'How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten" Are About Justin Bieber
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. It's no secret that Selena Gomez collaborated closely with her fiancé Benny Blanco on her newest album, I Said I Love You First, but some fans think the Only Murders in the Building actress drew inspiration from at least one of her famous former loves for some of the tracks. As fans absorbed I Said I Love You First, which dropped on Mar. 21, many were struck by lyrics that seem to reference Gomez's ex, Justin Bieber—particularly in the tracks "You Said You Were Sorry" and 'How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten." In "You Said You Were Sorry," Gomez sings about having very much moved on from an unnamed ex, singing in the song's pre-chorus, "Don't think about you / Happy without you / More now than I ever was." In the chorus, she references a dream in which the unnamed ex apologized to her—something they never did IRL. "But I had a dream / You said you were sorry, said you were sorry / Sorry for everything / That you put on me, that you put on me / Our eyes were bawling rain / We finally both forgave ya / I had a dream, that's all it was / Yeah, that was enough for me." Bieber famously issued a different kind of indirect apology to Gomez in the form of his 2015 single "Sorry," which he eventually confirmed was at least "a little bit" about her. Of course, even without the "Sorry" connection, fans wouldn't have to reach for reasons to think Gomez might have dreamed of an apology after the infamously tumultuous relationship, which began in 2010 when she and Bieber were both teenagers. After splitting for the first time in 2012, the pair's relationship was on-again and off-again for several years until they split for good in early 2018—just months before Bieber would go on to marry his now-wife, Hailey Bieber. While "You Said You Were Sorry" earned praise for delivering what some fans saw as an important message about closure and letting go, the possibly Bieber-inspired lyrics in "How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten" are more biting. The lyrics 'You're so embarrassing / Go cry when no one's watchin' / I can't imagine it / How does it feel to be forgotten (Ah), forgotten? (Ah-ah)," in particular, sparked speculation about Bieber, who has been known to cry in posts on social media, as a possible muse. As Page Six pointed out, other lyrics in the song seem to mirror lyrics from Gomez's 2020 song "Look at Her Now," which was also believed to be about her breakup with Bieber. The "Look at Her Now" comparison is strongest in "How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten's" pre-chorus, when Gomez sings, ''Cause you walked in, big-ass grin / Talkin' like we're friends, honey, what were you thinkin'? / He loves me, I love him / Look at you, just look at you now." Gomez hasn't commented on the speculation that Bieber inspired some of the lyrics in her new music, but she and Blanco made it clear before the album dropped that I Said I Love You First would cover events before they met. "This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences," a press release shared ahead of the drop date said (per People). "It chronicles their entire story—before they met, falling in love and looking to what the future holds."

Selena Gomez Seemingly Clarifies New Album With Benny Blanco Is Not About Justin Bieber
Selena Gomez seemingly clarified that the songs from her and fiancé Benny Blanco's new album, I Said I Love You First, were not about her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, despite what fans might think. 'Anytime I release anything the interpretation is going to be up to the audience. However, I would like to say that most of this album has nothing to do with what everyone may go to,' Selena, 32, said during an interview alongside Benny, 37, for Spotify's Countdown To I Said I Love You First on Wednesday, March 19. 'I've evolved so much and I have experienced life with new people. I've had to go through transitions with friends and lose people in my life and gain new people and I've had a whole new life forever. So, it's up for whatever people want, but to me it was about both of our pasts and our history and also just inspired by friends and relationships.' Selena said that while the interpretation of her songs was 'for whatever people want,' but for her it was about both hers and Benny's 'past' and their 'history.' The 'Love You Like a Love Song' singer continued, 'Some songs were actually meant about friendships in my life, and I think that's what, to me, the album was about. I just wanted to get that out there because that was very important to me.' Upon the album's release, fans rushed to dissect the lyrics of her new tracks and they believed a few songs were traced back to her relationship with Justin, 31. In 'You Said You Were Sorry,' Selena sings about an unnamed ex, "Don't think about you/Happy without you/More now than I ever was.' She continues in the chorus, "But I had a dream/You said you were sorry, said you were sorry/Sorry for everything/That you put on me, that you put on me/Our eyes were bawling rain/We finally both forgave ya/I had a dream, that's all it was/Yeah, that was enough for me." Other songs from I Said I Love You First that perked fans' ears up were 'How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten' and 'Don't Wanna Cry.' 'Selena Gomez dropping an entire album shading Justin Bieber is exactly what i'd do if i was a singer,' wrote one fan on X. Another person added, 'Selena Gomez writing about Justin Bieber with her current fiancé is kinda crazy but the songs are great so.' Justin and Selena dated on and off over the course of eight years before finally calling it quits for good in 2018. That same year, the 'Love Yourself' artist began dating Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) and thus sparked an ongoing feud that consistently gets reignited by fans whenever they perceive a slight from one party or the other. Even after Justin married Hailey, 28, in 2018, the fans still weren't convinced that he had truly moved on from Selena. Selena confirmed that she and Benny were an item in December 2023, and one year later, he proposed. The Wizards of Waverly Place alum shared the good news via Instagram by showing off a photo of her ring and writing, 'Forever begins now…'
