From $13 to $50, get your meatloaf fix at these West Palm Beach and Palm Beach restaurants

Though many regard apple pie as the quintessential 'all-American' food, there is definitely an argument to be made for meatloaf. Yes, in your youth you may have regarded this classic dish as something to be simply tolerated or maybe even avoided altogether ("Hey mom, can I eat over at so-and-so's house for dinner?"). Chances are, however, that as you've grown older, this comfort food, literal slabs of soul-soothing goodness, has become something more. Something delicious yes, but also a link to your childhood, dinner with family and simpler (better) times. Even the smell of it baking, with some baby glazed carrots caramelizing alongside, gravy simmering on the stove next to a heaping pot of freshly made mashed potatoes, can be enough to make one believe that everything is going to be alright. Here are a few local restaurants where you can get your meatloaf fix: This waterfront destination's take on the classic definitely takes it up a notch. It is made with wagyu beef, smoked gouda and applewood smoked bacon and is served over roasted garlic Yukon puree with truffle gravy for $37. Details: 149 Soundings Ave., Jupiter. Located under the 'Deluxe Platters' on the menu at Nick's, this classic is made with ground beef and ground pork, served with a classic, made-from-scratch brown gravy and is topped with fried onions. It comes with two sides and is $16.95. It can also be enjoyed as an open face meatloaf sandwich with one side for $13.95. Details: 1900 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach. In a hurry, but still looking for that meatloaf fix? This fast-casual destination has got you covered. Yes, they are well-known for their perfectly-cooked rotisserie chicken, but they also make a pretty mean meatloaf. Served with a mushroom cream sauce, it is tender and wonderful and comes with two sides for $13.99 Those side options include their horseradish smashers (mashed red skinned potatoes with a touch of horseradish). Want to go even more old school? You can get it as a sandwich on their buttery, housemade bread with lettuce, tomato and mustard for $11.49. Details: there are seven C.R. Chicks locations, all in Palm Beach County. This longtime destination along the 'Dixie Corridor' on South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach has incredible ambiance both inside and out. Their impressive take on this all-American classic goes with bird over beast and features ground, all-white meat turkey with caramelized onion & herbs, gravy, mashed potato and veggies. Details: 3700 South Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach. Serving up classic diner fare since 1950, the iconic West Palm Beach restaurant knows a thing or two about comfort food. They definitely know their meatloaf and this one is even named. Technically known as Gino's Meatloaf, the recipe is from owner Rodney Mayo's friend Gino. Howley's manager Jess Hill said it has a classic ketchup glaze, comes with a side of homemade beef gravy and two sides. Hill said it is a big seller for them. Details: 4700 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach. Meat Market's proprietors avow that using the highest-quality meat is priority No. 1 at the restaurant, including with the American-Style Kobe Meatloaf ($29). 'It's a house creation from our wood burning grill,' said marketing director Isabella Denaro. With bacon, mango barbecue sauce, an onion ring, buttermilk-accented mashed potatoes and more, guests who favor reinvented throwback favorites can't get enough of Meat Market's meatloaf. ~M.M. Cloutier Details: 191 Bradley Place, Palm Beach. Remember when Swifty's debuted at The Colony in 2019? Of all of the menu items it offered then, a few were big headliners and continue as best-sellers today: among them, 'designer' meatloaf. It's said to be made from a recipe by American couturier Bill Blass. The dish ($47) is served with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. ~M.M. Cloutier Details: 155 Hammon Ave., Palm Beach. Skip trying to decide between the Prime rib with au jus or the finger-lickin' baby-back ribs with slaw; go ahead and try the meatloaf, Bricktop's fans say. Made with Prime sirloin, Bricktop's meatloaf ($42) is glazed with a tangy house sauce and served with creamy whipped potatoes. It's just the sort of dish one might want to enjoy after a nostalgia-nudging appetizer of Bricktop's deviled eggs ($18) served with 'millionaire's' bacon. ~M.M. Cloutier Details: 375 S. County Road, Palm Beach. M.M. Cloutier, special correspondent to the Palm Beach Daily News, contributed to this report. Columbia University "speak out" ends on 100th day of President Trump's second term

New Yorkers react to President Trump's first 100 days of second term New Yorkers react to President Trump's first 100 days of second term New Yorkers react to President Trump's first 100 days of second term A 25-hour "speak out" in support of academic freedom at Columbia University came to an end on Tuesday, which was also the 100th day of President Trump's second term. Students, faculty and alumni began demonstrating Monday. "Speaking out about the crisis that we face, speaking out in defense of the university, in defense of our students," said Joseph Howley, associate professor of classics. "It's been a disaster for New York City" Organizers say they're calling on Columbia to stand up to the federal government after the Trump administration pulled $400 million of federal funding from the school for what it says is a failure to deal with antisemitism and its handling of protests over the Israel-Hamas war last year. "We have the crisis of an authoritarian government that is trying to dismantle this university and all universities in this country," Howley said. It comes after authorities apprehended at least two Columbia students, including Mahmoud Khalil, who was involved in the student campus protests. "He had no legal right, nor the ICE agents have a right, to take our students away from campus," Columbia alumna Jennifer Lena said. CBS News New York has learned some visas for international students have been pulled as well. As of Tuesday, ICE said it carried out about 66,500 arrests in Trump's first 100 days since returning to the White House. Most, the agency says, were unauthorized immigrants with criminal records. "It's been a disaster for New York City," Howley said. "Let's think about the way that Trump's ICE is terrorizing our neighborhood, our neighbors, disappearing members of our community." Lawmakers who support Trump say he's keeping promises Lawmakers who support the president say he is making good on his promise. "Antisemitism is not a form of protest, it is a hate crime. And people who are in this country are here, it's a privilege, and if they're going to violate our laws and they're going to foster antisemitic activity, then they have to have their visas stripped," Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said. She added, "In his first 100 days, the president has already secured the border. He has deported thousands of criminals from foreign countries who have been committing all sorts of crimes on the streets of New York City. We're seeing the migrant shelters causing taxpayers billions start to close." Trump is marking his 100th day with a speech in Warren, Michigan.

Rob Howley still under contract but will not coach for rest of Six Nations

Rob Howley will not be part of Wales' coaching team for Guinness Six Nations fixtures against Ireland, Scotland and England. The Welsh Rugby Union said in a statement that Howley remains under contract with them but will not be involved for the rest of the tournament. The announcement comes just two days after head coach Warren Gatland left his post by mutual agreement. Cardiff boss Matt Sherratt will be in charge on an interim basis for the rest of the Six Nations campaign, which Wales began with defeats against France and Italy. Howley, a coaching mainstay during Gatland's first reign in charge of Wales, returned to the staff as an assistant ahead of last year's Six Nations. Sherratt, who takes over the squad following Cardiff's United Rugby Championship clash against Connacht on Saturday, has called up three players. Gloucester backs Gareth Anscombe and Max Llewellyn, who were surprise omissions from Gatland's Six Nations squad, are now back in the fray. And they will be joined by Harlequins' former Cardiff fly-half Jarrod Evans, who made his last Wales appearance against Argentina in 2021. Sherratt, though, will be without Saracens full-back Liam Williams due to a knee injury. Williams, who has won 93 caps, was a late withdrawal from the team that faced Italy, and has now been released from the squad. And Ospreys centre Owen Watkin, who suffered a serious knee injury during the 43-0 loss to France, has also been released. He will require surgery. Ireland are next up on February 22, with Wales going into the game on the back of a record 14 successive Test defeats and striving to avoid a ninth Six Nations loss on the bounce.

New research has found that one in five LGBTQ+ people in the UK say they have been in a . The research, conducted by queer health and wellbeing charity LGBT Hero, found that in a survey of 600 LGBTQ+ people, 21% answered that they had been sexually assaulted in some way in a queer space. Two thirds (61%) of respondents said they have been touched sexually or intimately without consent in a social setting. 44% say they were assaulted by a stranger, whilst 31% said their perpetrator was a friend. Only 19% of people surveyed said they reported the incident to the , though 74% say they told someone about their assault. View this post on Instagram A post shared by LGBT HERO (@ The research is part of a new campaign by the organisation centred around consent and sexual assault. The campaign will also see the distribution of posters to venues across the UK raising awareness of this issue, social media ads, and a three-part podcast series on the topic. The campaign also directly calls on LGBTQ+ venues to do more to tackle this issue, asking them to implement zero tolerance policies on sexual harassment and assault, and ensure mandatory consent training for all venue staff. The organisation also suggests venues create visible reporting systems to support survivors and 'encourage community accountability to challenge harmful behaviour'. 'LGBTQ+ spaces should be places of safety, but sexual assault and harassment are happening where we should feel protected,' said Ian Howley, CEO of LGBT HERO. 'We have an opportunity to change this together.' 'We all have a responsibility to create an environment where consent is respected and survivors feel supported,' Howley went on. 'Change isn't just about awareness, it's about action. That's why we're ready to work with LGBTQ+ venues, organisations, and community groups to create safer, more welcoming spaces for everyone. 'Our experience running the Lambeth Allies Programme in partnership with Lambeth Council has shown us that real change is possible when we come together to educate, train, and empower people to challenge unacceptable behaviour.'
