Topic Folk Club to host 'double header' guest night on May 8

Shipley's Topic Folk Club has shared details of a 'double header' guest night on May 8. Singer, guitarist, and songwriter Gerry Cooper, from Bradford, who specialises in acoustic blues, ragtime, and other Americana (and who also plays "a mean harmonica") will perform at the club, at the Hullabaloo, 41 Westgate, Shipley. The Mockingbirds, an acoustic harmonies duo composed of Cath Harney and Pam Johnson (both resident in Keighley), will perform on the same night. (Photo by CBS via Getty Images) Patrick Adiarte, the Philippines-born dancer and actor who is remembered for his early recurring role as cabin boy Ho-Jon on M*A*S*H and his guest appearance on The Brady Bunch, died on April 15 of complications from pneumonia. He was 82. Born August 2, 1943 in Manila, Patrick Adiarte overcame early adversity after his sister and their mother were imprisoned by the Japanese on the island of Cebu in February 1945 during World War II. One month later, their father, who was working as a captain for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was killed. After emigrating to the United States, Adiarte eventually appeared on stage as Prince Chulalongkorn in the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical The King And I, Wang San in the stage and film version of musical Flower Drum Song, and college student T.J. Padmanagham in the Blake Edwards comedy High Time. He was also one of the regular dancers on the television series Hullabaloo, which aired in the 1965 to 1966 TV season. And, in 1961, Adiarte portrayed the Prince in a TV version of The Enchanted Nutcracker with Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence. But it was M*A*S*H, which Adiarte exited after the second season to attend college, and the one episode of The Brady Bunch as David, who served as a tour guide to the Bradys in Honolulu when the clan had a series of bad luck, that he was instantly recognized for. The Astonishing Adventures of Kitty and Peg will be performed at the Darlington's Hullabaloo. This 'fast-paced, cheeky period backstage farce' will be presented at 8pm on Saturday March 29. The show is set in 1745 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and features English actress Kitty Clive and Irish actress Peg Woffington. When they are unexpectedly sacked, they resort to outrageous schemes, including spreading fake news and staging fights. (Image: Supplied) The plot thickens as they accidentally poison the cross-dressing puppeteer Charlotte 'Mr Brown' Charke. Will they win back their jobs or face execution? The performance promises plenty of laughs and even a bit of women wrestling. Supported by Proteus Theatre, the show is suitable for ages 16 and up. Skinner & T'witch and Andrew Metheven to perform at Topic Folk Club

A Shipley folk club has announced its upcoming guest performers. On March 13, The Topic Folk Club, which meets at Hullabaloo, 41 Westgate, Shipley, will host Skinner & T'witch, with support from Andrew Metheven. Skinner & T'witch combine comedy and satire with folk, flamenco, and theatre-style songs, and draw on music-hall and vaudeville traditions. Andrew Metheven writes lo-fi folk "from the hills and the concrete." He released his debut EP, A Quiet Life, in March 2022 and his first album, Sister Winter, in June 2024.
