Manpasand Ki Shaadi our most modern show: Sooraj Barjatya

Mumbai, Aug 8 (PTI) Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya says his upcoming TV show 'Manpasand Ki Shaadi" is unlike anything he has made before and it tackles the institution of marriage from a modern perspective. Produced by Barjatya's banner Rajshri Productions, the show revolves around an Aarohi Shinde (Esha Suryawanshi), who challenges the family's traditional way of marriage, and expresses her desire to choose her life partner. It will explore the clash between tradition and modernity and the complexities of family and societal pressure. Actor Akshun Mahajan plays the male lead in the show. 'If you've seen my movies, each film starts with an arranged marriage setup, and here, for the first time, we are showing that a father is telling his daughter to find a boy for herself. This is the most modern subject that we have made in our space," the filmmaker told PTI in an interview. 'It is challenging for us. But it's something that we need it in today's time, like how a father-daughter, mother-daughter relationship should be. The love story is also different. There are ups and downs, and we see a relationship from a mature perspective," he said. Barjatya, celebrated for films like 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun", 'Hum Saath Saath Hain", and 'Uunchai", said the concept for this TV show has been brewing in his mind for a while. 'Marriage is such a relevant and debatable subject today, and the values that we have carried for 25-30 years, it's all different today. For instance, I got married at the age of 21. But today everyone gets married at the age of 27 or 29, including my children. 'When I saw all this from their point of view, I felt that a story should be made on this, in which we can say something to society about what I've learned and experienced," he said. Barjatya said he admires the younger generation for their open minded approach to life, however, he believes they need to respect the institution of marriage. 'Children today are non-judgmental, they do not judge by rich, poor, caste, creed, or business, they are professional, you respect everyone, but this is what I want in life (referring to a partner). 'Earlier, people would be like, we need a handsome man, but handsome today is personality wise, some are like, I want a car, I don't work, I want to have a good time, so, they are very clear, and all of this is okay. But you should respect society and marriage," he said. Barjatya said all his films and the TV show, 'Manpasand Ki Shaadi" draw inspiration from his life experiences and the people he encounters. 'Whatever I've seen around me, I've made films around it. Like, I made 'Hum Saath Saath Hai', when my mother passed away. I felt how important family is. 'Similarly, 'Manpasand Ki Shaadi' started with the idea to make something around today's marriage," the filmmaker said, adding that he is excited to explore the Maharashtrian backdrop for the first time with the TV show. 'Manpasand Ki Shaadi", also starring Milind Gawli, Suchitra Bandekar, Avinash Wadhwan, and Gungun Uprari, will debut on Colors TV channel and JioHotstar from August 11. Sonali Bendre says people thought she ‘lost the plot' after decision to work in TV: ‘It was a fantastic paycheck'

Actor Sonali Bendre's decision to do television initially raised eyebrows among her colleagues, but looking back, she calls it the "best thing" she ever did -- a move that gave her career a fresh lease of life along with a great paycheck. Sonali Bendre is currently seen in Pati Patni Aur Panga. The 50-year-old, who first appeared on television in Kya Masti Kya Dhoom after the success of her films Hum Saath Saath Hai and Sarfarosh, recalled how her decision at the time made people think that she had "lost the plot". "Everybody thought I had lost the plot because television was not the thing to do. It was like, 'Why are they doing TV?' But it was a great show, I loved the concept of that show, and I thought it was a fantastic paycheck," Sonali told PTI in an interview. Sonali even credited her partner at the time, and now her husband, Goldie Behl, for supporting her decision. "This (TV) is the future, television is going to become big (Goldie said). I listened to him and said, 'Let me do it'". It was the best thing I did," the actor said. Sonali went on to judge reality shows such as Indian Idol 4, India's Got Talent, Hindustan Ke Hunarbaaz, India's Best Dramebaaz, India's Best Dancer 3. She is currently featuring on Pati Patni Aur Panga as a host. In fact, according to Sonali, it was television that helped her remain relevant. "The kids (on her first reality show) who used to see me at that time are all grown up now, and they still remember me. So, as a celebrity, your life is as long as your fans remember you." "I got a great lease of life. At that time, people used to say that you are doing TV, but it just gave me an amazing lease of life, which I didn't think that's what would happen, but it did happen," she added. Besides, working in television offered her the opportunity for a healthy work-life balance, which became a crucial factor since she wanted to be present for her son during his formative years. "When I had my child, these shows were closest in my line of work. I didn't do fiction work because my child was growing up and I wanted to be there for him," Sonali added. Pati Patni Aur Panga features popular celebrity couples such as Debinna Bonnerjee-Gurmeet Choudhary, Hina Khan-Rocky Jaiswal, Rubina Dilaik-Abhinav Shukla, Avika Gor-Milind Chandwani, Swara Bhasker-Fahad Ahmad, Geeta Phogat-Pawan Kumar, and Sudesh Lehri-Mamta Lehri. The show, which premiered on Saturday on Colors Channel, will see celebrity couples competing against each other as they take on fun challenges. Talking about the show, Sonali said the show is unlike anything she has done before. "You are holding the whole show together; you talk to the contestants, and more so to those who are not opening up. Besides, it's not scripted. It is a challenge, but I'm enjoying it," she concluded.

Salman Khan says people would climb on to the balcony of his Galaxy Apartment home, explains installing bulletproof glass: ‘I would find them sleeping there'

Actor Salman Khan keeps his place in the tabloids throughout the year, be it because of his movies or his personal life. Last year, he found himself in the news after shots were fired at his iconic Bandra home, Galaxy. The actor then decided to install bulletproof glass on his balcony for his safety as well as his family's. Salman, who would go out to his balcony to wave to the hundreds of fans gathered just to catch a glimpse of him, now greets those same people from behind the glass. Like clockwork, the Sikandar actor comes to his balcony to greet his fans on the day of Eid and is seen waving to everyone along with his family, this time from behind the glass. He opened up about this new state of affairs and why he installed the extra security measures and said that it was just to prevent people from climbing up the balcony and coming into the house. He mentioned that he would sometimes find people sleeping on his balcony, and that is the reason behind covering the balcony up. The man stated that he will kill the actor by planting a bomb in his car. The police later traced the perpetrator to his home in Gujarat, as one of the police officers on the case revealed, 'The suspect was then traced to his home in Vadodara. Our team was dispatched, and during investigation, his parents revealed that he is mentally unstable. However, we are still verifying their claims.' Currently incarcerated, Lawrence Bishnoi has looked relentless in his fight against Salman, a war that also claimed the life of MLA Baba Siddique, who was a close friend of Salman. Bishnoi's younger brother Anmol took responsibility for firing shots at Salman's house, which prompted the installation of the bulletproof glass. Bishnoi and his entire gang have been after Salman since he was accused of hunting down a blackbuck in 1998 while filming for Hum Saath Saath Hai, and incidentally the Bishnoi community views the animal as holy.
