The 19th Annual Science Exhibition, held on May 10 at the HOPE Qatar Centre for Persons with Disabilities, witnessed a remarkable display of talent and creativity by 107 differently-abled students. Held under the theme 'Realms of Physics', the exhibition transformed the centre's premises into a vibrant space of learning, curiosity, and scientific exploration.
Students aged between 4 and 20 years, with varying intellectual and multiple disabilities, showcased their understanding of science through hands-on experiments, models, and interactive demonstrations. Guided by their dedicated teachers, the students presented projects across a wide spectrum of scientific topics, each tailored to their developmental levels. The exhibits were categorised into Optics, Reflection of Light, Astrophysics, Plasma Physics, Mechanism, Magnetism, Sound, and Electricity.
The exhibition was inaugurated jointly by Their Excellencies Salah Attia, Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the State of Qatar; HE Vipul, Ambassador of India to Qatar; HE Nazrul Islam, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar; and HE Ridwan Hassan, Ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar. Also present were Fahd Al-Sharshani, expert in educational and training centres at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education; Adv Dr Nizar Kochery – founder of Kochery and Partners; and Amina Mohammed Ahmed, senior specialist at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Following the inauguration, the special guests toured the exhibition, enthusiastically engaging with the students and viewing their projects. Their presence inspired the children and sent a strong message of inclusion and encouragement. The event was attended by hundreds of parents, well-wishers, and leaders of various national and expatriate communities in Qatar.
Dr Rajeev Thomas, founder and chief mentor of HOPE Qatar Centre, said: 'The annual science exhibition is one of many initiatives aimed at helping our students push beyond their perceived limits. We believe in providing a near-normal school environment where every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive. The presence of esteemed guests today reinforces the message that children with disabilities can, and do, achieve remarkable things when given the chance.'
