The Humane Society of Richland County in Ohio shared the story of Boomer in a May 7 Facebook post. Like many canines, this dog needed time to unwind and trust people again after what they believed to be a rough past for him. The 3-year-old dog first came to the humane society in March 2024. He was found in an abandoned trailer. Now, over 419 days later, he is still in their care. He's shown his fun, youthful side with the workers and volunteers, who named him the "goodest boy," but as his time with them continues, his hope for a forever home has started to lessen. The Facebook post explained that Boomer is beginning to show signs he is "becoming depressed and resigned," which is why they're hoping social media will work its magic to find this dog his forever home. An article from Dogster shared a few signs of depression, including refusing to eat or limited eating, low activity levels and losing interest in things they used to like, such as walking or playing. Dogs might exhibit these signs during periods of change or because of an underlying medical condition. His future family will be busy giving him tons of cuddles and butt scratches. He loves to play with doggy toys. Boomer also does great in the car and gets along well with female dogs, the post shared. The Facebook post amassed over 2,400 likes, 581 shares and 249 comments as of Monday, with people wondering how he's still available because "he is gorgeous" and others staying positive his forever family will come soon. "Boomer deserves a nice home! Hope he finds it soon," wrote one user. A second person added: "Just look at that sweet bowling ball head. Praying he gets the loving home he deserves very soon." Another commented: "Sweet Boomer, know that your humans are out there! Keep the faith, handsome!" If you are interested in adopting Boomer or another animal from the Ohio-based humane society, visit their website to fill out an application. Boomer is currently listed on the website as available for adoption. Newsweek reached out to the Humane Society of Richland County via Facebook for additional information.
