US Envoy to Finalize Gaza Aid Corridor Amid Starvation Crisis
The United States announced on Tuesday that a top envoy will travel to Europe to discuss a ceasefire and finalize an aid 'corridor' for war-ravaged Gaza. Authorities in Gaza report that people are dying from starvation, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian assistance.
Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump's special envoy, will embark on a diplomatic mission to Europe this week to participate in talks on Gaza, with US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirming the travel plans.
Furthermore, clarifying an earlier statement, the officials said Witkoff may travel to the Middle East after Europe, with the aim to continue diplomatic efforts. Hopes for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce told reporters that Witkoff brings 'a strong hope.' She expressed optimism about securing another ceasefire and a humanitarian corridor for aid. Bruce noted that both sides have agreed to this in principle.
However, Bruce declined to provide further details on the corridor, leaving many questions unanswered. She did not explain how the diplomacy would relate to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). This initiative, backed by Israel and the United States, has witnessed chaotic scenes after Israeli troops fired on hungry Palestinians racing for food.
In addition, the UN reported on Tuesday that Israeli forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food aid. These incidents occurred since the GHF began its operations in late May, primarily near the foundation's sites.
With lives at stake, Witkoff's negotiations could determine whether diplomacy prevails over escalating violence. As the world watches, the success of a Gaza aid corridor may hinge on balancing political pragmatism with urgent humanitarian action.
