US deploys Ospreys, C-130 for logistical support to Luzon relief ops

As part of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) efforts in Northern Luzon, the United States Air Force (USAF) deployed its CV-22 Osprey aircraft to support the Philippine Air Force's (PAF) air assets in airlifting relief supplies to typhoon-affected communities in Basco, Batanes. NDRRMC As part of its support of the Philippine government's disaster response measures, the United States Indo-Pacific Command deployed US Marine Corps and US Air Force V-22 Ospreys and MC-130J Hercules transport aircraft to deliver relief items to communities affected by harsh weather in Northern Luzon. According to the US Embassy in Manila on Thursday, the Ospreys participated in Armed Forces-led?airlift operations on July 30 and 31 to transport 600 Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) family food packs and emergency relief items from Clark Air Base to Basco, Batanes. These operations to assist communities affected by recent tropical cyclones and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue in the coming days, the embassy said. 'The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with our Filipino allies, especially in responding to disasters,' US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson said in a press release. ''We are grateful to the combined relief and rescue teams who have been working tirelessly on the ground to deliver emergency assistance to affected residents,'' she added. The number of deaths reported due to the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong reached 34, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its report on Tuesday. The NDRRMC said the affected families had reached 1,857,171 or 6,670,506 persons. Of this, 33,694 families or 113,646 persons stayed in evacuation centers while 21,299 families or 80,496 persons sought shelter outside evacuation centers. The heavy rains brought by the weather disturbances had caused floods and landslides in Metro Manila and provinces in parts of the country. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RF, GMA Integrated News
