'Mum went airborne': Son on alleged hit-and-run that left two injured

An Auckland man is pleading for help to find his missing dog after an alleged hit-and-run in Paremoremo left his mother and her friend injured during a Sunday morning walk. Emergency services were called to Attwood Rd, Paremoremo at around 7.10am on Sunday to reports two pedestrians had been struck by a white ute while they were walking their dogs. St John said it responded with two ambulances and one manager to the scene. "Our crews assessed and treated two patients, one in a serious condition who was transported to Auckland City Hospital, and one in a moderate condition who was transported to North Shore Hospital," a spokesperson said. Sergeant Jason Cleeton said police were working to identify the driver of the vehicle. ADVERTISEMENT "The ute was travelling on Attwood Rd towards Paremoremo Rd. It sustained some damage in the crash, which will likely be noticeable." Mitchell Prouse told 1News it was "just flight mode" when he got the call. "I chucked some shorts and a shirt on and just ran out of the door barefoot; I didn't even think to get the car." The pair, who walked the road with their dogs almost everyday for the past 20 years, had been walking on the white line next to the road when they were hit, he said. "Mum went airborne and landed in a ditch, and Sue in front got hit and thrown to the side. It was shocking when I saw Mum in the ditch, and I thought she was paralysed, and then it was just rage. "The guy left and both of them could have been dead." The 27-year-old said his mother had several broken ribs, a lacerated liver, and lower fractures to her spine. (Source: Mitchell Prouse) Sue's dog was taken to veterinary intensive care with serious injuries, but Prouse family's dog, a Huntaway cross named Luna, was yet to be found. Prouse said the neighbourhood had been "awesome" in helping the search for Luna. "I was away until about 1.30ish, and by the time I got back, there were still people walking the streets." He urged people to contact police if they knew anything. "There's only around 200 houses down here, someone knows where this vehicle came from. If you've left at around 7 in the morning, you either live here or you were here last night." Norfolk dog kennel to host new event

A dog kennel in Norfolk is hosting a new event in the hopes of encouraging visitors to match with a four-legged friend. Dogs Trust Snetterton is hosting its first Nose about Day, allowing dog lovers to enquire about all things pooches. The charity will be hosting two activities, a behind-the-scenes tour and a snuffle-making workshop. Those interested must pre-book. READ MORE: Visitors will be shown the training barn, paddock, playground and kitchen to help give people an idea of "what it's really like" for the dogs in need of a forever home. The event is being held at the charity's kennel in North End Road, Snetterton on May 17 from 11am-2pm. Complimentary hot drinks and biscuits will be included. Here are just three of the dogs looking for a new family. Milo has a passion for training and with the right support will be muzzle trained in no time. (Image: Dogs Trust) Two-year-old Milo is described as "lovable" and "affectionate" by Dogs Trust. Although a "cheeky chap", he sometimes lacks confidence so will need to be kept on a lead and muzzled on his walks. Milo enjoys meeting other dogs on his adventures but would prefer a quiet, adult-only home where he can put his paws up. Rocky will require further training to help him feel at ease around his canine companions. (Image: Dogs Trust) The one and a half year old French Bulldog cross is looking for a family who will help him grow in confidence. Rocky is an affectionate boy who enjoys a cuddle but also loves exploring on walks. He will need to be the only pet in the home. As he struggles to be left alone, his new family will need to be on hand as he adjusts to his surroundings. Brock is happy to wear his muzzle when out in public. (Image: Dogs Trust) Brock is a six-year-old Huntaway cross who adores people and never shies away from fuss. He would like to be the only dog in the home but has the potential to live with children from primary school age and older who are used to excitable dogs. When on walks, Brock will have to be kept on a lead and muzzled as he is unsure of other dogs.
