Over 3 million Iranian pilgrims enter Iraq for Arbaeen
Shafaq News – Tehran Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari announced on Friday that more than three million foreign visitors have entered the country to take part in the Arbaeen pilgrimage. Arbaeen, held 40 days after Ashura, marks the martyrdom of Hussein bin Ali, the third Imam in Shia Islam and grandson of the Prophet Mohammad. Millions are expected to gather in Karbala, many making the 73-kilometer walk from Najaf along routes lined with thousands of volunteer-run tents offering food, water, and medical care. From Iran, about 2.3 million have crossed into Iraq through six border points for the pilgrimage. Speaking at a press conference, Mansour Fakharan, Deputy Head of Development, Technology and Smart Transformation at the Road and Transport Organization, said the Mehran crossing accounted for 63% of pilgrim traffic—over 1.08 million people—an increase of 2% from last year. Traffic is forecast to peak in the coming days, with movement expected to rise 8% from 2024. Fakharan explained that 450 buses are currently operating at Mehran, with the fleet to expand to 650 within 12 hours. Smart transport data also shows more than 4,000 private vehicles heading toward the crossing. For the first time, transport needs have been projected for 150 cities. More than 7,000 smart road systems are monitoring and managing flows, with real-time coordination among agencies to ensure a smooth and safe return from Iraq.

US concerns over Hezbollah's influence: The United States has expressed concerns over Hezbollah's role in Lebanese politics. A US official stated that the US has set a 'red line' against Hezbollah joining the Lebanese government. Additionally, there are reports of increased searches at Beirut airport for passengers arriving from Iraq, aimed at preventing funds transfers to Hezbollah. Participants in the march, held in the province center and led by Governor Dr. Faisal Ja'man, General Mobilization Official Sajjad Hamza, Deputy Governor Hassan Al-Ashqas, and District Director Abdulrahman Al-Ammad, emphasized that commemorating Ashura is a mobilizing and spiritual occasion to draw lessons from the bravery of Imam Hussein (AS) and to reaffirm continued support for the Palestinian people and the oppressed. Large Crowds Commemorate Tenth of Muharram in Beirut's Southern Suburbs
In a majestic scene that embodies the highest meanings of sacrifice and loyalty, thousands of believers gathered this Sunday morning in the southern suburb of Beirut, the suburb of resistance, the suburb of the martyr leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, to commemorate the tenth day of Muharram, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali (peace be upon him), his family and companions in Karbala. Following a central council held by Hezbollah at the Sayyed al-Shuhada complex in the southern suburb, large crowds set out on an Ashura march. The march aimed to answer the call of Hussein (peace be upon him), with participants echoing the sentiment: 'We have not abandoned you… humiliation is far from us.' Millions of Muslims around the world commemorate today the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), on the tenth of Muharram, which this year corresponds to July 6, 2025.
