Kim Kardashian's "The Fifth Wheel" Find Its Director in Eva Longoria
Yara Sameh The Netflix pic "The Fifth Wheel", starring Kim Kardashian, is adding even more star power by tapping Eva Longoria to direct and Gloria Sanchez coming as producers of the comedy. The movie is scripted by longtime Saturday Night Live writer Paula Pell and Janine Brito (One Day at a Time). Both Kardashian and Pell are producing along with Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell through their Gloria Sanchez banner as well as Cris Abrego and Longoria's Hyphenate Media Group. While plot details are being kept under wraps, sources say Kardashian will play the eponymous 'fifth wheel' alongside a female ensemble cast. The project has been a priority ever since the streamer landed the package over Thanksgiving weekend in 2023 following a competitive auction. To no one's surprise, given Pell's track record, the script has been described as one of the funnier in some time by a number of buyers who were involved in the auction. That stamp of approval was legitimatized with Gloria Sanchez boarding the project. The production company has built a resume of not only popular hit comedies like "Booksmart" and "Theater Camp" but also films led by strong female talent both in front and behind the camera. Once Sanchez jumped in, the next step was finding a director and it soon became important to all parties to find a female director to help tell the story. After several meetings, execs and producers landed on Longoria as the right fit following her major studio directing debut, "Flamin' Hot". The Searchlight biopic blew away the town after it premiered at SXSW 2023, where it won the audience award and earned praise specifically pointed at Longoria for her directing skills. While that film leaned more on the dramatic end, "Flamin' Hot" showcased plenty of laughs and heart and became a big selling point for this pic. As for Kardashian, this isn't her only acting job in the coming months, she will be seen in Hulu series " All's Fair ," which dropped to a big reaction last week. The "The Fifth Wheel" role comes after she starred in the most recent season of FX's "American Horror Story", in which she played a publicist named Siobhan who works for Emma Roberts' actress character Anna Victoria Alcott. Her role as a publicist earned her strong notices. In addition to an appearance as herself in 2018's "Ocean's Eight", Kardashian also lent her voice to the character Delores in the two recent animated PAW Patrol movies. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Eva Longoria to direct Kim Kardashian in The Fifth Wheel
Eva Longoria has been tapped to direct Kim Kardashian in her first major movie role. The reality TV star went from studio to studio pitching the female-driven comedy with screenwriters Paula Pell and Janine Brito in 2023 and they opted to go with Netflix after a bidding war. Kardashian and Pell - who are also producing the film - have now found their director in Desperate Housewives star Longoria. The actress shared Deadline's news on her Instagram Stories and wrote, "Let's gooooooo!" After directing shorts and TV episodes, Longoria moved into features with the 2022 documentary La Guerra Civil and the 2023 biographical drama Flamin' Hot. Longoria will also produce the film for her Hyphenate Media Group company alongside Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for their production banner Gloria Sanchez. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say Kardashian will play the titular "fifth wheel" alongside a female ensemble cast. Kardashian has had small roles or cameo appearances in TV shows over the years, but she stepped up her acting work in 2023 with the TV show American Horror Story: Delicate. The 44-year-old recently filmed her first leading TV role with the upcoming legal drama All's Fair, which also stars Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash and Glenn Close. That show will premiere in August. During an episode of The Kardashians last year, she admitted that she felt the pressure to deliver with The Fifth Wheel because so many studios were interested in the project. "How do they know I can do it? Now the pressure's on because I'm like, 'Oh s**t, this is happening,' I'm tripping the f**k out low-key because I have to really do this and I have to deliver," she confessed.

Glamorous star of iconic TV show says DEI is 'morally right' and 'good business'
'Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria has declared DEI is 'morally right' and 'good for business.' The actress shared her opinion on The View Tuesday, while the panel was discussing the entertainment industry. Joy Behar had brought up how Donald Trump is 'stripp[ing]' DEI-centered initiatives from companies, since Longoria owns one of her own. The owner of Beverly Hills-based Hyphenate Media Group went on to make several statements that defied the president directly, while painting the approach to government or business as a means to push back against 'historical exclusion.' Trump, meanwhile, has vowed to 'terminate every diversity, equity, and inclusion program across the entire federal government'. DEI supporters say the initiatives tackle unfairness in society that can make it harder for marginalized groups to get ahead by leveling the playing field. Critics say such measures are often divisive and persecute one or more races in favor of another. 'I mean it's not just the media industry, but it's all industries,' she set out on explaining, after being asked how she is using her production company to buck against the trend. 'DEI was created... to correct historical exclusion,' Longoria insisted, claiming it's 'not just about being Latino and black. It's women, it's disabled…it's LGBTQ+, it's a lot of marginalized communities.' Behar, 82, then asked why Longoria believes DEI was being targeted, leading the star - billing herself as business-minded - to say, 'I don't know.' 'Because it's bad business,' the 50-year-old went on. 'It's not just a moral imperative.' 'I do it because it's morally right, I want authentic storytelling, and I want the people who have lived these stories to tell them,' she asserted. 'But we are creating programming for the most diverse audience ever in the history of the world. 'It's not just a moral imperative. It's just good business,' Longoria repeated, adding 'and at the end of the day I'm a businesswoman.' Since Trump took office, multiple huge corporations have begun dialing back on DEI measures including Meta, Google and Ford. Other topics touched on by were high society in Spain and Longoria's last time visiting the late Pope, as well as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's latest Signal leak scandal. They also talked up Pope Francis's legacy, and his efforts to implement progressive reforms. When it comes to Hollywood, however, numbers show identity politics have failed to move the needle numbers-wise, with the recent Snow White film surfacing as a flop. The film, which came out late last month, was one of the worst-performing live-action Disney adaptations of all-time, raking in just $43 million at the box office in its opening weekend. The film - for which Disney cast Pro-Palestine actress Rachel Zegler - boasted a budget between $250 and $270 million. It had been long delayed after controversy erupted over its original dwarf depiction, which some - including the movie's biggest star - slammed as offensive. The studio responded by announcing in late 2023 it would be pushing back the release date for 'Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs' by a full year - before stripping 'The Seven Dwarfs' from its title as Zegler continued to criticize the original. It received just a 43 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Longoria, meanwhile, has described herself as a 'proud American, proud Texan' but is currently living in Spain. She moved there with her husband and their six-year-old son several years ago, saying the decision was not due to her disagreements with Trump.
