FBI raids Chicago home of Capital Jewish Museum shooting suspect, Elias Rodriguez. What to know
FBI agents raided the apartment of a Chicago resident yesterday in connection with the May 21 shooting of two Israeli Embassy staff members in Washington, D.C. The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, was taken into custody, a Hyundai Accent registered to Rodriguez was towed away and officers were seen leaving the residence with boxes and luggage in-hand. Here's what we know. Rodriguez, 31 years old, reportedly lived on the second floor of a building in the 4700 block of North Troy Street in Chicago's Albany Park. A sign reading "Justice for Wadea" was visible in the window of the apartment believed to belong to Rodriguez, according to WGN-9 News. The sign references the deadly stabbing of 6-year-old Palestinian American Wadea al-Fayoumi in Plainfield in October 2023. Rodriguez's alleged social media accounts are said to contain posts criticizing the war in Gaza. USA TODAY reported that he was also once affiliated with the far-left Chicago group the Party for Socialism and Liberation, according to one of the group's X posts. Rodriguez has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and also faces several firearms charges and counts of killing foreign officials. The attack is being investigated as a possible hate and terrorism crime. Jeanine Pirro, the interim U.S. Attorney for D.C., said authorities may pursue the death penalty if Rodriguez is convicted. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 18 in Washington, D.C. The couple were Israeli Embassy staff members believed to be attending an event at the museum. An FBI affidavit says Rodriguez flew from Chicago to Washington, D.C., the day before the attack, bringing a gun in his checked luggage, and bought a ticket to the museum three hours before the night's event began. Video footage shows Rodriguez shooting at the victims several times before and after they fell to the ground. He reportedly yelled, "Free, free Palestine" as he was detained by security. The State is set to prove that the group murdered SANDF soldier, Sergeant Michael Njomane, who was hijacked and stabbed to death and his body placed inside the boot of his white Hyundai Accent in August 2019. Njomane was deployed to Cape Town as part of a work-related operation which focused on combating crime and his vehicle was set alight along Silversands Road in Blue Downs. Lawyers can't agree on sentence for driver who killed cyclist after taking Ativan
Montreal Crime By The prosecution and a defence lawyer representing a woman who was convicted last year of driving while impaired when she struck and killed a cyclist in the West Island were unable to reach an agreement on a sentence. At the Montreal courthouse Tuesday, lawyers from both sides informed Quebec Court Judge Dennis Galiatsatos they will need two days to present arguments on a sentence for Christine Pryde. The judge agreed to schedule two dates early in September to hear the arguments. In October, Pryde, 33, was found guilty of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, operating a vehicle while impaired and causing death by criminal negligence. Pryde killed Irène Dehem, a mother of three, while driving a Hyundai Accent shortly after noon on May 18, 2021, along l'Anse-à-l'Orme Rd. in Pierrefonds. As Pryde approached a curve in the road, she continued straight, crossed into the oncoming lane and ended up in a ditch. The car struck Dehem, who was riding her bicycle on a path. On the impaired driving charge, the judge determined that Pryde's ability to drive safely was affected by Ativan, medication she took the night before and on the morning of the incident. Defence lawyer Jessy Héroux said he plans to have four or five witnesses testify on Pryde's behalf 'to show the work she has done on herself.' He also said Pryde has not decided yet if she will testify when sentence arguments are made. A conviction for criminal negligence causing death comes with a maximum life sentence and a minimum sentence of four years.

Cab Driver Locked in Hotel Room and Robbed by Woman in Bengaluru
Ananth Kumar, a 39-year-old cab driver from HMT Layout in Bengaluru, lost his car and phone after a woman tricked him. This happened during a work trip to Karwar. While his passengers were sightseeing in the last week of April, a young woman came to talk to him. She said she wanted to hire him later for a tour in Bengaluru and Mysuru. They talked for a short time and exchanged phone numbers. In the days after, the woman called him sometimes on WhatsApp. On the night of May 6, she told him she would come to Bengaluru the next day and asked for his taxi service. Ananth said he was in Hubballi but agreed to meet her the next day. At 11 a.m. on May 7, she called again and said she had arrived. She asked him to book a hotel room near Majestic. Ananth didn't know hotels in that area, so he booked a room at PV Residency near Tumakuru Road. She sent her Aadhaar card to use for the booking. Ananth picked her up from the Eight Mile area and took her to the hotel. She said she wanted to go to a beauty parlour nearby and told Ananth to rest in the hotel room. When he went to the bathroom, she locked the door from outside. Then she took his phone and car keys, and ran away with a man who was waiting for her. They both left in Ananth's Hyundai Accent car. Ananth shouted for help. Hotel staff heard him and opened the door. He then went to the police. Police followed the suspects' trail to Tumakuru, Hiriyur, and Chitradurga, but after that, they lost track. The hotel had no CCTV backup to help. Police say they are still looking into the case. They also said there might be more to Ananth's story, but they will wait until they catch the suspects.
