Vehicle that struck wanted man during Butler pursuit was driven by Mayor Wesley Dingus, police say
BUTLER, Ohio (WJW) — Authorities on Monday said that Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck a wanted man who was fleeing from police earlier this month. Bellville Police Department Chief Jon Fletcher at a Monday morning news briefing said his agency was asked to conduct an impartial investigation. 2 teenagers killed, 1 hurt in Cleveland crash: police Dingus claimed the collision was an accident, Fletcher said. Bellville police did not file charges, but turned over their findings to the Richland County prosecutor for possible charges, Fletcher said Monday. 'I'm not here to determine if he did it intentionally or unintentionally. We are here to provide a non-biased, fact-based report for the Richland County Prosecutor,' Fletcher said. The FOX 8 I-Team previously reported the incident happened at about 7 p.m. on July 11. The wanted man, Anthony Ward, was in a vehicle with his grandmother and another woman just moments before the incident took place. His grandmother told a 911 dispatcher that she pulled over because a red vehicle was following her. She said moments after she stopped her vehicle, a Butler village police officer came up to the car, and her grandson took off running. Security video obtained by the I-Team shows Ward running and a red car following him and striking him. 'They ran over him twice and were trying to tell me that can be that way,' the grandmother told the dispatcher. The grandmother asked for the Richland County Sheriff's Office to send a deputy to the scene, but the dispatcher said police were already on scene. 'Yes, but they are the ones that ran over him,' the woman told the dispatcher. 'Make Indians Great Again': President Trump urges Guardians to restore former name The dispatch records also state that Ward was injured and may have a broken leg. The I-Team has also asked for police body camera video and dash camera video, but that information has not yet been released. Ward was released from prison in February after serving time for a sexual battery charge. According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction website, he was wanted by the Adult Parole Authority when officers tried to arrest him Friday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. I-TEAM: New Browns dome complex can have anything except…
CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-TEAM took a closer look at proposed new land use regulations for the site in Brook Park where the Cleveland Browns plan to build a dome, and found developers would be able to build almost anything with a few exceptions. Friday, the Brook Park mayor shared with the I-Team a dozen pages of sweeping new zoning rules that have been proposed and must be approved by Brook Park City leaders. Under 'PROHIBITED USES', the document lists 'adult entertainment businesses' and 'smoke shops.' Ohio AG Yost urges governor to veto plan to use unclaimed funds for Browns stadium 'PERMITTED USES' include 'a Sport facility and all uses and purposes ancillary thereto : (ii) commercial, restaurant and retail, hotel, hospitality, entertainment, health care, hospital, residential, office, warehouse, retail, governmental and public.' The Browns are hoping the Governor approves what lawmakers voted for last week. The House and Senate agreed to give the Browns $600 million to help build a dome, and they agreed on a measure to change the Modell Law that restricts sports teams from moving. The change would clear the way for the Browns to leave the stadium on the lakefront when their lease runs out after the 2028 season. Governor Mike DeWine could take action as soon as Monday. Investigators in NE Ohio after 6 killed in plane crash The Browns have promised to invest more than $1 billion of their own money in the project, and they've said any state money would be paid back with profits from the project. As for the proposed zoning rules in Brook Park, Mayor Ed Orcutt told the I-Team, 'It does streamline the process for development.' The City of Cleveland is fighting in court to block the Browns from moving. It's not clear how the change in the Modell Law would affect cases in the federal and county courts. Friday, lawyers for the city asked to have court deadlines put on hold until the governor makes a final decision on the change in the law . The full budget and related measures were delivered to the governor on Friday for his review. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
