After a day of heavy rains, most of the Pittsburgh regions will get a break from showers

Yesterday's First Alert Day that we issued due to a risk of flash flooding certainly verified. We saw several communities see more than three inches of rain, including radar estimates of 4.5" of rain in the Tarentum area. After all that rain yesterday, we could certainly use a break, and most are going to get that today. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos While close, I can't say everyone will be rain-free, though. By far, the highest chance for rain today will come for places south of I-70. If you are heading south to West Virginia, the entire state is under a flood watch through midnight. For Morgantown and places south of I-70, today's highest chance for rain arrives after 6 this afternoon and continues through around 3 this morning. While the sun is still up, expect to see a couple of isolated storms in this area, turning to more rain as we head through the overnight hours. The reason for the rain in this area will be a weak boundary that will be lagging in place. Where the boundary goes, the rain chance will tick up. Highs today will hit the mid-80s with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be out of the southwest at around 10mph. It's still fairly humid outside today, so you'll be battling that today. Part of our rain chance for today comes from a trough of dry air pushing in from the north. Most data shows a powerful blockage of stable air keeping us mostly dry, even as this boundary dips and moves through. This boundary will likely enhance storms and rain chances south of I-70 through the overnight hours. Friday is looking like the pick of the week. With highs in the low 80s and humidity levels lower. I can't guarantee you'll be dry, but rain and storms will be isolated. Downpours will be possible. Rain on Saturday and Sunday will come during the afternoon, with mornings dry. Highs both days will be in the low 80s with morning lows dipping into the mid to upper 60s. It should feel nice. Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

Colorado investigators detail events leading up to deadly fiery crash on I-70

Colorado State Patrol investigators released more details Friday about what happened leading up to Thursday's deadly fiery crash on I-70 in the high country. The crash between a RAM camper utility van hauling a trailer and a semi truck hauling an empty trailer happened about 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of I-70 before the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels. CDOT According to CSP, the RAM was traveling westbound on I-70 in the right lane when it weaved onto the shoulder and struck the rear of the semi's trailer where the semi was parked. The semi was pushed forward slightly. The RAM caught fire and was engulfed in flames, with the driver and the dog trapped inside. Both the dog and the driver died. That person's identity has not been released. The driver of the semi did not report any injuries. Cars are seen backed up on Interstate 70 in the foothills late Thursday afternoon. Colorado mountain travel along I-70 to see heavy congestion over July 4th holiday weekend

Those driving to Colorado's mountains to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend will likely encounter heavy traffic along Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 285. The holiday kicks off higher traffic volume in the high country, with summer tourism hitting its peak over the next six to seven weeks, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The department is urging motorists to plan ahead if traveling to or from the mountains July 3-6. The Fourth of July is on Friday. Last year over the Fourth of July holiday period, more than 235,000 vehicles traveled through the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial tunnels along I-70. With the holiday falling on Friday, westbound I-70 will see the heaviest volume the afternoon of July 3 through the morning of July 4. Heaviest I-70 eastbound returning traffic from the mountains will take place the afternoon of July 6, which is Sunday. Here are ways you can beat the congestion: This allows you to see the travel forecast to plan your departure time. For real-time traffic information, road conditions and live cameras. To ease congestion, the Colorado Department of Transportation is suspending all construction and maintenance work across the state starting at noon July 3 through the morning of July 7. That means less of a bottleneck at major projects like the I-70 Floyd Hill Project, which suspended construction starting June 30. Congestion still may occur in construction areas due to reduced speed limits. Leave the driving to someone else by taking public transportation options, including Bustang, Pegasus and Bustang Outrider. The buses provide service to many mountain areas, including Estes Park.
