Nicola Coughlan joins BBC's powerful female-led series 'I Am...'
Nicola Coughlan continues her run of women-focused projects by joining the BBC's anthology series 'I Am...' Following her breakthrough performance as Clare in the popular comedy Derry Girls, Coughlan became even more prominent worldwide as Penelope Featherington in the historical drama Bridgerton. She also starred in Barbie, Greta Gerwig's 2023 hit film. Her role in I Am... is a logical next step for her, who is well-known for her adaptability and love of narrating stories with strong female characters. The notable format of the 'I Am...' series makes it stand out in the television industry. The lead actress co-develops and stars in each episode, resulting in a very genuine and close story. Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan cast in Channel 4 series with Peaky Blinders actor
Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan is to star in a new female-led drama on Channel 4. The former Derry Girls actress has developed I Am Helen with the award-winning series' writer-creator-director Dominic Savage, who collaborates with his leading actors on the stories for each I Am... season. The Galway native will star opposite Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole in I Am Helen. She said: "It's an absolute honour to be part of telling the next I Am… story alongside Dominic Savage - a singular talent and a storyteller deeply committed to exploring the breadth of the female experience. "To follow in the footsteps of the brilliant women who've collaborated with him on this series feels truly surreal, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be embarking on this journey."
