Tourism career camp trains 50 Omani students

Muscat – The first edition of a summer camp designed to familiarise school students with careers in tourism and hospitality concluded on Monday. It was organised by Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) in collaboration with Directorate of Career Guidance and Student Counselling under Ministry of Education (MoE). The ten-day programme included 50 students from Grades 10 and 11 who engaged in a series of site visits and interactive workshops across Omran-affiliated tourism and hospitality entities. The aim was to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the tourism industry and its career possibilities. The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Abdullah Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary for Education in MoE, with Dr Hashil Obaid al Mahrouqi, CEO of Omran, and officials of the group and ministry in attendance. Maha al Farsi, HR Business Partner at Omran, said the camp served as a practical introduction to the sector's core areas. 'We were impressed by the students' enthusiasm and commitment. The camp provided real-world exposure and helped raise early career awareness. We see this as an important step towards building local talent for Oman's tourism sector.' Zahran bin Nasser al Maghadri, Assistant Director of Studies and Entrepreneurship at the ministry's Vocational Guidance Centre, noted the initiative's alignment with broader education goals. 'The camp bridged the gap between education and the job market. It helped develop key skills and highlighted national opportunities. This is a model of effective public-private partnership.' Students also reflected positively on the experience. Aya Sultan al Wahaibi said the camp was 'inspiring and useful', while Mohammed Ali al Maamari described it as 'a fun and practical way' to learn about the industry. The summer camp is part of Omran Group's #IAmTourism strategy, aimed at developing a national workforce in the tourism sector. The strategy focuses on four areas: raising awareness of tourism careers, attracting local talent, improving retention, and strengthening institutional collaboration.

OMRAN Group concludes 'Future Investment Pioneers' Program to empower the Next Generation of Tourism Leaders

Post Views: 19 Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) has successfully concluded the 'Future Investment Pioneers' program, a pioneering initiative aimed at equipping a select group of Omani students with the skills and knowledge needed to understand investment dynamics in the tourism sector. The 12-week program brought together 16 students from six leading academic institutions, including Sultan Qaboos University, and offered them a rich learning experience through interactive workshops, mentorship sessions, and hands-on activities. By nurturing their entrepreneurial mindset and innovative thinking, the program supports the broader vision of building a national talent pool capable of shaping the future of Oman's tourism industry. Participants developed practical skills in product development, entrepreneurial thinking, and professional communication, while also exploring key topics such as investment analyzing and attraction, mechanisms of entering strategic partnerships, tourism product innovation, and return on investment analysis from an investor's perspective. Commenting on the program, Mundher Al Moosawi, Director of Business Development at OMRAN Group, said: 'This program reflects our commitment to nurturing future tourism leaders by offering a comprehensive experience that blends practical learning with investment thinking. We strive to inspire and empower youth to actively contribute to the sector's sustainable growth and position Oman as a promising investment destination.' The program concluded with a thought-provoking panel discussion that brought together experts from tourism, investment, and academia to explore opportunities for innovation in the sector, the importance of aligning education with market needs, and the critical role of young investors in shaping Oman's economic future. As part of the closing ceremony, the winners of the program's accompanying competitions were honored in recognition of student projects that stood out for their spirit of innovation and healthy competition. The winning participants received an integrated package of incentives, including hands-on training opportunities at leading tourism institutions, a specialized mentorship program, and the chance to present their project ideas to a group of investors — opening real prospects for turning their concepts into viable investment ventures. This initiative provided a unique opportunity for students to design investment-ready tourism projects and engage directly with industry leaders. It falls under the 'Educate' and 'Attract' pillars of OMRAN Group's broader #IAmTourism strategy, which aims to ignite passion for tourism, entrepreneurship, and innovation among young Omanis. By investing in education and mentorship, the program contributes to building a capable, future-ready generation that will drive long-term growth in Oman's tourism sector.
