Silver Lining For Nagpur's Raunak In Moscow

Nagpur: City's first Grandmaster (GM) Raunak Sadhwani rallied splendidly after suffering six defeats to clinch the silver medal in the Chess Stars Invitational round-robin rapid and blitz tournament in Moscow, Russia, on Tuesday. In a strong field of the world's best grandmasters, the 19-year-old and world junior No. 4 Raunak finished second in the nine-round rapid event, and came third in the 18-round blitz section, compiling a total of 17.5 points to clinch a silver medal. On his way to registering a podium finish in the faster format of 64 squares, Raunak defeated experienced Russian GMs Sergey Karjakin, Vladislav Artemiev, Evgeny Tomashevsky, women's world No. 1 Hou Yifan from China, and held Azerbaijan's super GM Radjabov Teimour. In the rapid format, the 2611 Elo Raunak won five games, drew three boards, and suffered a defeat to finish the tournament collecting 6.5 points — just half a point behind Russia's 2723 Elo GM Vladislav Artemiev. On his way to finish behind Vladislav (7 points), Raunak earned a total of 14.3 international points while delivering a performance rating of 2727 Elo. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo In contrast, Raunak started the blitz tournament on a disappointing note, but the fighter in him guided the India No. 9 to a come-from-behind podium finish. In the 18-round, two-day blitz tournament, Raunak suffered as many as six losses and won just three games on the opening day. Despite experiencing a sudden loss of form, and with nobody by his side in Moscow — participating in international tournaments without a full-time coach — Raunak was left with no option but to share his strange experience with his parents. "I called my parents back home, and they motivated me, stood with me rock solid in this difficult situation, and told me to believe in myself, saying that I can still finish on top by playing my best chess," Raunak told TOI. The long chat with his parents paid dividends, and Raunak came back stronger the next day. Of the remaining nine rounds left in the blitz section, Raunak registered as many as seven victories and drew two boards to conclude the 18-round blitz tournament, collecting 11 points and a clear third position. Russian GMs Vladislav and Karjakin won the top two positions. Speaking to TOI, Raunak said, "It was a quite strong event where the best players were competing against each other. I am glad I was able to finish on the podium despite a tough start in the blitz section." Raunak said, "The rapid event went quite well for me, however, the first day of blitz was like a nightmare where I lost so many games back-to-back and things were looking quite challenging. The only hope that I had was to play my best on the last day and try to finish in the top 3." He added, "Day 2 of blitz was an altogether different and wonderful day for me where I won back-to-back games and started my winning streak. I won six successive games and just kept pushing to give my best and I succeeded there. It was such a pleasant feeling for me. After the last round, I received a message from my parents saying — Real Fighter, We are proud of you." Raunak's parents Bharat and Heena Sadhwani said, "In this competitive world, it is extremely difficult to compete against elite players without an experienced coach. At present, he is without a trainer and working on his own due to lack of financial support for advanced coaching. He is participating in tournaments without private sponsors and as such no govt support." With talent identification and international competitiveness on agenda of the government's new National Sports Policy, Raunak can keep his fingers crossed with hope for support soon. Smriti Irani reacts to pay parity; says 'I wasn't paid more than the male lead when I joined Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi... I created that space...'

One of Indian television's most iconic shows, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, is making a grand return with a brand-new season, and the excitement among fans is already sky-high. The revival will mark Smriti Irani 's much-awaited comeback to acting and will reunite the beloved on-screen duo of Smriti and Amar Upadhyay , bringing back the unforgettable Tulsi-Mihir pairing. The actress-turned-politician recently joined Karan Johar for We The Women and opened up about pay parity in the TV industry. Speaking about the change she and producer Ekta Kapoor had on the television industry, Smriti Irani recalled how she once unabashedly shared that she was paid more than the male lead of the show, Smriti said, "Today, in the so-called woke generation that you speak of, there is a huge conversation around pay parity. That is the time we broke the so-called glass ceiling where the female protagonist unabashedly said that I'm paid more than the male actor. We set that template even in terms of parity. If presumably this is to happen again (Kyunki's return), I'm sure given Ekta's inclination of pushing the envelope she will do that again." Smriti further shared that she wasn't paid more than her male co-star when she first joined the show. In fact, she emphasized that it was a space she created over time, with the support of producer Ekta Kapoor, she said, "I was not paid more than the male protagonist when I had signed the contract. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? I remember when we did that particular engagement contract; Ekta Kapoor was very focused on the history we were about to create. Everybody else was bothered about the pay cheque. She has always been focused on what the threshold is that she can cross or what new standard she can set." Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi which is returning with a season 2, has been delayed due to Vastu concerns but now the show will go on floors from July 3.

US moves faster to revoke citizenship: Immigrants at risk- What to know

The Donald Trump administration has formalized its efforts to speed up the revocation of US citizenship for some Americans, putting naturalized citizens, immigrants who became Americans through the legal naturalization process, in the crosshairs. A justice department memo, issued on June 11, directs government attorneys to prioritize civil proceedings that strip citizenship from individuals who allegedly obtained it illegally or by lying during the process or are charged with crimes. What does the memo say? The directive focuses on using civil proceedings to revoke citizenship in cases involving war crimes, extrajudicial killings, human rights abuses, terrorism, and individuals convicted of crimes who pose an ongoing threat to the US. "The benefits of civil denaturalization include the government's ability to revoke the citizenship of individuals who engaged in the commission of war crimes, extrajudicial killings, or other serious human rights abuses; to remove naturalized criminals, gang members, or, indeed, any individuals convicted of crimes who pose an ongoing threat to the United States; and to prevent convicted terrorists from returning to U.S. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo soil or traveling internationally on a US passport," it said. "The Civil Division shall prioritize and maximally pursue denaturalization proceedings in all cases permitted by law and supported by the evidence," it added. How many citizens are at risk? At the heart of this move are roughly 25 million US citizens who were born abroad but became Americans through naturalization, according to 2023 data. The memo outlines 10 priority categories for denaturalization, including individuals involved in war crimes, human rights abuses, gang activity, or those convicted of crimes deemed to pose an ongoing threat to the US. At least one individual has already been stripped of US citizenship in recent weeks after a conviction. According to the DOJ, the person had been found guilty of collecting and distributing child sexual abuse material, Axios reported.

"Familiar screenwriting" but it works "in parts"- Hansal Mehta: reviews Brad Pitt's 'F1'

The well-known filmmaker Hansal Mehta has reviewed actor Brad Pitt's new film, 'F1,' and shared his point of view at length about what has worked for the film and what has not. What did the Scam 1992 maker say? Sharing from his social media handle early on Monday, Hansal praised Brad Pitt, saying that there's "something moving about watching a star who knows how to carry silence and wear fatigue with grace. " Hansal said that "the treatment of the supporting cast" in the film "definitely doesn't work." Hansal said that even though 'F1' has "familiar screenwriting," but it works "in parts." He said, "My thoughts on F1. F1 applies every familiar screenwriting trope from the underdog sportsperson playbook: the tormented past, the fractured team, the old-vs-young dynamic, and the predictable trajectory from rock bottom to redemption. You can almost hear the structure ticking away beneath the surface." What works in 'F1' as per Mehta He added it with "And yet, despite all that, it works - at least in parts. The racing sequences are thrillingly constructed, shot with the kind of kinetic precision that makes you forget the cliché for a while. The film treats its beautifully ageing lead with near-reverence and rightly so. There's something moving about watching a star who knows how to carry silence and wear fatigue with grace." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Hansal says 'F1' didn't do justice to Javier Bardem's character Hansal also said that the film has "same drug, different packaging." Further adding, "What definitely doesn't work is the treatment of its supporting cast. Take Javier Bardem—an actor capable of thunder—and reduce him to one of the laziest character sketches in recent memory. A waste really. And yet, for all its worn-out tropes and narrative shortcuts F1 had the audience glued for most part, willingly swept up in the spectacle. Somehow the clichés didn't matter. The crowd wanted the hit and the film delivered. Same drug, different packaging but the high still lands."
