According to a fundraiser started to help the family, 'On May 28th, Ron Jackson was spending a beautiful, sunny day at Harry Todd Park in Lakewood, WA with his wife, Leighten, and their five young children — four girls and one boy. It was the first hot day of the year, and they were simply enjoying a peaceful afternoon together at the lake. In an instant, everything changed." 'And he's like I'm shot, I'm shot, I'm shot you know. And there's just like blood splitting out, splitting out,' said Ron's wife, Leighten. Ron was shot in the abdomen and was hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting. He is now in the ICU facing major surgery on his liver. 'My son is here and he's like, I don't want my daddy to die. I don't want him to die, you know,' recounted Leighten. Leighten shared the family's harrowing experience with KIRO 7's Samantha Lomibao. Hear their story live tonight at 11 p.m. You can find the family's GoFundMe here.

Olympic gymnastics champion Mary Lou Retton facing DUI charge
Mary Lou Retton, the former gymnast who became the first American woman to win Olympic all-around gold, was arrested for driving under the influence in West Virginia earlier this month. She's facing a misdemeanor charge for 'driving under influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or drugs' and was released after posting a $1,500 bond on May 17, according to records from the Magistrate Court of Marion County (WV). Advertisement Retton, 57, had a health scare in October 2023 that required a stay in the intensive care unit due to 'a very rare form of pneumonia,' her daughter, McKenna Lane Kelley, said in a social media post. Kelley posted on a crowdfunding website that her mother was not insured, and the family received over $450,000 in donations. On Oct. 30, 2023, Retton wrote in an Instagram post that she was recovering. In January 2024, Retton appeared on 'Today' wearing a nose cannula to receive additional oxygen, and she had 'faced death in the eyes' while in the ICU. 'They were saying their goodbyes to me,' Retton said about her daughters staying with her in the hospital. Retton rose to fame as a 16-year-old who captured the all-around title at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. She clinched gold in dramatic fashion, scoring a perfect 10 on vault in the final rotation of the competition to edge out Romania's Ecaterina Szabo. Retton helped the U.S. to a silver in the team final and went on to win three more individual medals: a silver on vault and bronzes on uneven bars and floor exercise. Her success in Los Angeles — an Olympics in which Soviet gymnasts were noticeably absent due to the country's boycott — made her an American sports icon. She was the first gymnast depicted on a Wheaties box and appeared in films and television shows like 'Baywatch.'

The Olympian was issued a personal recognizance bond of $1,500, which she posted that same day. PEOPLE has reached out to Retton's representative for comment. Retton is the first American woman to win a gold medal in individual all-around gymnastics. Her arrest comes nearly two years after she was in the ICU with a rare form of pneumonia. Her daughter, McKenna Kelley, announced that she was hospitalized in October 2023 in a post on her Instagram Story which included a link to a Spotfund page dedicated to her mom. "My amazing mom, Mary Lou, has a very rare form of pneumonia and is fighting for her life. She is not able to breathe on her own. She's been in the ICU for over a week now. Out of respect for her and her privacy, I will not disclose all details. However, I will disclose that she not insured," said Kelley. In July 2024, the Dancing with the Stars alum told PEOPLE that she was so sick that at one point during her month-long hospital stay, the doctors told her four daughters she might not make it. 'They prayed over me, and McKenna said, 'Mommy, it's OK, you can go.' I didn't have much of a relationship with my mother, but I can't imagine what that was like, to watch their mom on her deathbed," said Retton. While the former gymnast said that she pulled through because 'God wasn't ready for me yet," she felt she'd "never be the same" again, as she said she still relied on daily oxygen. 'It's been really hard. My lungs are so scarred. It will be a lifetime of recovery. My physicality was the only thing I had and it was taken away from me. It's embarrassing," she said. Over 200 Johor projects worth RM10.8bil remain unimplemented, says MB
JOHOR BARU: More than 200 projects in Johor valued at RM10.8bil and approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11) nearly a decade ago have yet to be implemented, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. The Johor Mentri Besar said the projects were approved in 2016, but have stalled despite funds already being allocated. "There are a total of 222 projects worth RM10.8bil that are still in the pre-implementation stage. The state government views this as a serious matter, as allocations for the projects have been approved, yet the work has not been carried out. "Imagine the number of development and upgrade projects, including those involving hospitals, schools, and roads, that have not reached the people," he said during the state assembly sitting on Monday (May 26). Onn Hafiz said he had brought the matter up with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his recent visit to Johor. "Every time we have our state action council meeting, I raise this issue and have the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) follow up with the ministries involved. "With the Prime Minister's approval, the Johor government has decided that all state executive councillors will meet with the ministries involved in the projects. "This is to ensure the projects are carried out as soon as possible for the benefit of the people," he said. Onn Hafiz also thanked Anwar for approving nine major projects that would greatly benefit Johoreans. "We would like to thank the Prime Minister, as out of the 10 projects we requested, nine have been approved under RMK12, Rolling Plan Five. "This includes the Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 project and several involving highways," he said, adding that Anwar had chaired the Johor Special Development meeting on Friday (May 23).

Miley Cyrus reveals hospital dash after filming for her music video caused shock illness
MILEY Cyrus has revealed she was dashed to hospital after filming for her music video caused a shock illness. Singer Miley, 32, explained her surprise stint in intensive care caused her to develop a nasty infection, despite only shooting on the popular Hollywood Walk of Fame. 3 3 During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, the pop star joked: 'I was rolling around on the sidewalk - very glamorous, I know. I caught something!' She had been recording visuals for her new track Walk of Fame, which features in her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, set for release on Friday. Filming took place back in October, but by the time Thanksgiving rolled around, Miley was in the ICU. She told Jimmy that emergency departments were overcrowded at the time so she was admitted to intensive care 'just for a moment'. Recalling the infection had spread to her leg, specifically around the kneecap, she said: 'My leg began to kind of disintegrate. "The surgeon was like, 'Do you know why you'd have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?' And I had to admit… I was crawling around on the pavement. 'To have a surgeon look at you and say, 'Yuck' - and they cut into actual brains for a living - that's a lot,' Miley added with humour. Jimmy asked whether the pavement had at least been cleaned beforehand. Miley admitted: 'Absolutely not. I had a big dream and a small-ish budget. Well, a decent budget - but I spent most of it on clothes.' Rather than rent the space, Miley and her team decided to film guerrilla-style in the middle of the night. She said: 'They were like, 'You gonna rent the Walk of Fame?' And I was like, 'No… we'll just go at midnight.'' Reflecting on the slightly chaotic shoot, she told Jimmy: 'Have you ever been to the Walk of Fame at night? I thought it was my last day.' While she's back in fine fettle now, the Hannah Montana superstar recently told how another medical issue has rocked her career. Thankfully, she's since made a full recovery - but it's not the only health scare that's affected her music career. Despite fan demand, Miley hasn't embarked on a headline world tour in over a decade. While she once blamed it on her tour outfits getting creased (a reason even she admits was flimsy), she's now come clean about the real issue. In a recent interview with DJ Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Miley revealed she suffers from a large polyp on her vocal cords, as well as a condition called Reinke's edema - both of which make touring nearly impossible. Miley explained: 'I have this very large polyp on my vocal cord, which has given me a lot of the tone and the texture that has made me who I am, but it's extremely difficult to perform with because it's like running a marathon with ankle weights on. 'My voice is super-unique because of it, but I do have this Reinke's edema and I have this large polyp on my cords — and I'm not willing to sever it because the chance of waking up from surgery and not sounding like myself is a probability.' 3
