IEM YES National Summit 2025 concludes with celebration of engineering spirit and excellence

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section (YES) National Summit 2025 concluded on a high note with a vibrant and inspiring closing dinner hosted by IEM YES Sarawak at Theatre Hotel, Kuching on Saturday.
The event brought together approximately 300 participants from all IEM YES branches across Malaysia, underscoring the unity, passion and dynamism of the country's young engineering community.
The prestigious evening was graced by Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, Deputy Minister of Sarawak Infrastructure and Ports Development, who delivered the guest of honour's speech, praising the vital contributions of engineers in shaping Malaysia's infrastructure and advancing national progress. He also commended IEM YES for nurturing a strong pipeline of future-ready engineering leaders.
As a show of support, Aidel generously donated RM10,000 to the IEM YES Sarawak Branch, further empowering youth engineering activities in the state.
Also present were prominent engineering leaders including Prof. Ir. Dr. Jeffrey Chiang, President of IEM Malaysia; Ir. Dr. Angeline Liew, chairman of IEM Sarawak Branch; and Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, director of JKR Sarawak, alongside corporate sponsors who have steadfastly supported youth-led engineering development.
The organising chairman of the summit, Ir. Cliff Jude Zehnder, who also serves as the chairman of IEM YES Sarawak, delivered the opening speech during the dinner. His remarks reflected the spirit of collaboration, resilience, and the importance of youth-led engineering innovation in driving the nation forward.
A highlight of the evening was the debut performance of a newly composed song, 'We Are Engineers', which celebrated the unity, pride and purpose shared by engineers across the country.
Among the five selected vocalists was Mr Nell from the IEM UMS Student Section, representing Sabah with great enthusiasm and spirit.
Representing IEM Sabah Branch at the event was Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, Vice Chairman of IEM Sabah. Also present were Lee Tze Yei, chairman of IEM YES Sabah, and Ag. Khairul Kamaludin, Immediate Past Chairman of IEM YES Sabah, who both played key roles in leading and mentoring the delegation from Sabah.
The Sabah team comprised 17 enthusiastic delegates from IEM YES Sabah, accompanied by four student representatives from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
In a proud and joyous moment, IEM YES Sabah was honoured with the 'Outstanding IEM YES Branch 2025' award — achieving this prestigious recognition for the third consecutive year since 2023. This accomplishment highlights their exceptional leadership, consistent innovation, and deep commitment to the engineering community.
The evening concluded with a symbolic handover ceremony to announce that IEM Southern Region (Johor) will host the IEM YES National Summit 2026, continuing the tradition of inter-branch unity and knowledge-sharing.
The 2025 summit successfully fostered stronger bonds among young engineers, celebrated youth leadership, and reaffirmed IEM's vision to nurture forward-thinking, competent, and impactful engineering professionals for Malaysia's sustainable future.
