I-dle to drop album, tour in Japan

Girl group I-dle is poised to release a namesake EP in Japan on Oct. 3, Cube Entertainment announced Monday. The upcoming set will be the band's first record released in the country in five years and the first since it changed its name from (G)I-dle. The mini album will consist of five tracks: three new songs and Japanese-language versions of 'Queencard' and 'Fate.' The former fronted its sixth EP 'I Feel' from 2023 and the latter is a B-side track from its second LP '2' from last year. Soyeon wrote the main track 'Dosiyoukana,' which translates as 'What should I do.' On the heels of the record release, the five bandmates will perform in Saitama prefecture, just north of Tokyo, on Oct. 4-5 before heading to Kobe. Meanwhile, I-dle will also join the lineup of Summer Sonic 2025 on Aug. 16 in Tokyo and Aug. 17 in Osaka.

I-dle's 8th EP sells 1m

I-dle has another million-seller under its belt thanks to its eighth EP, 'We Are,' said agency Cube Entertainment Tuesday citing a local tally. The mini album, which sold over 1.06 million copies in the first week of release, is the group's fourth consecutive album to pass the milestone. Others include I-dle's sixth EP, 'I Feel,' from 2023 as well as its second studio album, 'Two,' and seventh EP, 'I Sway,' from last year. The Music video for the new EP's focus track, 'Good Thing,' generated over 50 million views on YouTube. "We Are" is the first endeavor from the 7-year-old group since it renewed its contract with the agency in December last year and changed its name. The group dropped the '(G)' from its previous name, (G)I-dle, to signal a new chapter for its music career. Separately, a pop-up store celebrating the release of the album is running at Line Friends Square Sinsa in Seoul until June 1.

(G)I-dle to return in May: report

(G)I-dle will make a full-group comeback in May, according to a local media report Wednesday. Its agency Cube Entertainment confirmed the news asking fans to keep their expectations high. The quintet is preparing to bring out a mini album, about 10 months since the seventh EP 'I Sway.' The last EP topped iTunes Top Albums Chart in 18 regions and sold over 1 million copies in the first week. The album became its third consecutive million-seller, following sixth EP 'I Feel' and second LP 'Two.' Lead single from the seventh EP, 'Klaxon,' earned the group first place on a television music chart show for three weeks and notched No. 1 spot on Melon's Hot 100. The forthcoming album will be its first endeavor since all members renewed their contracts with the agency in December last year. Meanwhile, (G)I-dle will join the lineup for Summer Sonic 2025 and perform in Tokyo on Aug. 16 and in Osaka the following day.

The quintet's previous album 'I Sway' came out in July 2024 and sold over a million copies in its first week. It became the group's third consecutive million-seller following the LP 'Two' and the EP 'I Feel," and topped the iTunes Top Albums Chart in 18 regions and all songs from the album made Melon's Hot 100. All members of the group renewed their contracts with Cube Entertainment in December 2024, and Minnie released her first solo EP 'Her' in January. Meanwhile, Soyeon and Minnie were spotted in Paris earlier this week attending the fashion shows for McQueen and Miu Miu, respectively.
