IIM Kozhikode launches professional certificate programme in applied finance
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode, in partnership with global education provider Emeritus, has launched a Professional Certificate Programme in Applied Finance. The initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for professionals with applied financial skills, as financial markets evolve and fintech adoption continues to grow. The course is scheduled to begin on June 28, 2025.
According to data from the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), India currently has over 2,100 operational fintech firms, placing it among the fastest-expanding digital financial markets. The rise of mobile and internet infrastructure, along with increasing complexity in financial decision-making, has created a need for professionals trained in advanced finance practices.
The programme is designed to prepare professionals for strategic and analytical roles in finance. With responsibilities in the finance domain expanding beyond compliance and reporting, participants are expected to develop skills in evaluating investment opportunities, managing risk, and aligning financial decisions with business strategy.
The curriculum covers financial concepts with direct application to real-world scenarios, such as interpreting financial data, building capital strategies, and applying valuation models.
The course will be delivered through live online sessions by IIM Kozhikode faculty members and guest experts from the industry. A key component of the programme is the integration of theory with practice, delivered over ten structured modules. In addition, a two-day on-campus immersion at IIM Kozhikode will provide participants with direct exposure to faculty and peers.
The curriculum includes the following core topics:
–Corporate finance and strategic financial decision-making
–Mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring
–Risk management tools and practices
–Portfolio theory and asset allocation
–Valuation techniques and financial modelling
–Digital finance and evolving business models
Sessions will incorporate activity-based learning, practical assignments, and interactive discussions aimed at reinforcing applied skills.
The programme is targeted at working professionals with at least three years of experience. It is open to individuals from a broad range of roles within finance and related functions, including:
–Finance managers and analysts
–Professionals from accounting, commerce, and consulting backgrounds
–Chartered accountants, cost accountants, and professionals in broking and securities
–Managers in cross-functional or non-finance roles seeking financial literacy for decision-making
–Minimum educational qualification: Graduate or diploma holder (10+2+3 format)
–Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience
The total programme fee is Rs 2,37,500 plus applicable GST. Upon successful completion of all requirements, participants will receive a verified digital certificate issued by IIM Kozhikode. In addition, they will be granted Executive Alumni status from the institute, providing access to IIMK's professional network.
