IIM Kozhikode launches professional certificate programme in applied finance

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode, in partnership with global education provider Emeritus, has launched a Professional Certificate Programme in Applied Finance. The initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for professionals with applied financial skills, as financial markets evolve and fintech adoption continues to grow. The course is scheduled to begin on June 28, 2025.
According to data from the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), India currently has over 2,100 operational fintech firms, placing it among the fastest-expanding digital financial markets. The rise of mobile and internet infrastructure, along with increasing complexity in financial decision-making, has created a need for professionals trained in advanced finance practices.
The programme is designed to prepare professionals for strategic and analytical roles in finance. With responsibilities in the finance domain expanding beyond compliance and reporting, participants are expected to develop skills in evaluating investment opportunities, managing risk, and aligning financial decisions with business strategy.
The curriculum covers financial concepts with direct application to real-world scenarios, such as interpreting financial data, building capital strategies, and applying valuation models.
The course will be delivered through live online sessions by IIM Kozhikode faculty members and guest experts from the industry. A key component of the programme is the integration of theory with practice, delivered over ten structured modules. In addition, a two-day on-campus immersion at IIM Kozhikode will provide participants with direct exposure to faculty and peers.
The curriculum includes the following core topics:
–Corporate finance and strategic financial decision-making
–Mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring
–Risk management tools and practices
–Portfolio theory and asset allocation
–Valuation techniques and financial modelling
–Digital finance and evolving business models
Sessions will incorporate activity-based learning, practical assignments, and interactive discussions aimed at reinforcing applied skills.
The programme is targeted at working professionals with at least three years of experience. It is open to individuals from a broad range of roles within finance and related functions, including:
–Finance managers and analysts
–Professionals from accounting, commerce, and consulting backgrounds
–Chartered accountants, cost accountants, and professionals in broking and securities
–Managers in cross-functional or non-finance roles seeking financial literacy for decision-making
–Minimum educational qualification: Graduate or diploma holder (10+2+3 format)
–Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience
The total programme fee is Rs 2,37,500 plus applicable GST. Upon successful completion of all requirements, participants will receive a verified digital certificate issued by IIM Kozhikode. In addition, they will be granted Executive Alumni status from the institute, providing access to IIMK's professional network.

India's first-ever International Fishery Tech Expo (IFT Expo 2025) was inaugurated in Mumbai on Thursday in a significant move towards upgrading the fisheries industry. On the first day, over 6,000 trade visitors visited the stalls of over 55 exhibitors from all over India and abroad that showcased recent advancements in fisheries technology. Maharashtra Ports Development Minister Nitesh Narayan Rane launched the three-day event. Dignitaries, including Kishor Tawade, Maharashtra's Commissioner of Fisheries, and officials from Gujarat, Karnataka, and Goa's fisheries departments were present on the occasion. Rane stated, 'This is a world-class platform that brings together technology, policy, and potential — all under one roof. Maharashtra is committed to becoming one of the top five states in fisheries, and events like this are essential to accelerating that journey'. He also emphasized Maharashtra's focus on the application of drones for coastal security and to expedite fisheries development schemes under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The expo is being held at a time when the Union Budget has provided a historic Rs 2,703 crore for the fisheries sector in the 2025-26 fiscal, indicating a powerful thrust towards a tech-friendly 'Blue Economy.' Dr Sreenath K R, Director General of Fisheries Survey of India, said, 'India's fisheries sector is making global waves—exporting to over 130 countries and powered by transformative investments in infrastructure and innovation. Such expos are necessary to drive innovation and align with the Prime Minister's vision for sustainable, tech-driven growth.' IFT Expo 2025 features live exhibits and top-level conferences on issues such as smart aquaculture systems, AI-driven water quality monitoring, innovative aquafeeds, cold chain and refrigeration, and sustainable packaging. Exporters, researchers, fish farmers, policy-makers, and start-ups participated in serious discussions to frame the future of the fisheries industry. The expo seeks to create new partnerships, stimulate investments, and provide an avenue for knowledge-sharing.

PB Balaji highest-paid Tata Group CFO According to annual CFO compensation figures disclosed by listed Tata Group companies, PB Balaji, the Group CFO of Tata Motors, received a total salary of Rs Rs 21.09 crore in previous fiscal, making him the highest-paid finance executive of the group. Balaji's salary witnessed an increase of 1.47% from the previous year, the company said in its annual report. Tata Steel Executive Director and CFO Koushik Chatterjee was the second-highest paid CFO of the group, earning a total of Rs 13.99 crore in remuneration in FY25, including 5.28 crore in salary and allowances, Rs 2.33 crore in perquisites, and Rs 4.76 crore in commission and performance-linked incentives. Chatterjee's annual remuneration saw an 2.86% over the last fiscal, around 164.71 times the median employee salary at Tata Steel. Tata Group CFO salaries Meanwhile, Tata Power CFO Sanjeev Churiwala and Tata Chemicals CFO Nandakumar S. Tirumalai, received total renumerations worth Rs 7.08 crore, and Rs 3.42 crore, respectively, in FY25, according to details. Churiwala's total earnings saw a 3.29% increase compared to FY24, and included Rs 6.47 crore in salary and allowances, Rs 27.91 lakh in perquisites, and Rs 33.29 lakh in retirement benefits. Tirumalai's pay increased by 0.95% over last year, and his total earnings of Rs 3.42 crore included Rs 3.26 crore in gross salary and Rs 16.65 lakh listed under 'other' components. Notably, not all of Tata Group's 20 listed companies have disclosed their annual CFO salaries, including TCS and Tata Elxsi, who said that the FY25 remuneration is not comparable with FY24 as the prior year covered only part of the tenure, thus the renumeration for FY25 was not disclosed.
