Namoshi urges State govt. to release pending remuneration for PU exam evaluators
BJP MLC Shashil G. Namoshi has strongly criticised the delay in disbursing remuneration and allowances to evaluators who assessed answer scripts of the II PU examination even after four months of the completion of valuation work. In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr. Namoshi said that many guest lecturers who are not on government payrolls travelled at their own expense to participate in the evaluation process. 'They spent anywhere between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 from their pockets on travel and accommodation, despite already facing financial hardship. Yet, they fulfilled their academic responsibilities. The State government's apathy towards them is highly disappointing,' he said. He pointed out that the State government has released ₹78 crore to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) as early as May for the purpose of paying evaluators. 'Despite this, evaluators of the first, second and third exams have not received their remuneration,' he said. The Karnataka Pre-University College Lecturers Association earlier called for a boycott of the third examination answer script evaluation in protest against the non-payment of dues for evaluating the first and second exam papers. The boycott was withdrawn after KSEAB officials promised them that payments will be processed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) within four weeks. 'Trusting the board's commitment, lecturers resumed the valuation process for the third exam. But those assurances have not been honoured and the evaluators continue to remain unpaid. This is not the first time; similar delays occurred in both 2023 and 2024,' Mr. Namoshi said. He questioned the board's repeated failure to make timely payments. 'What is the purpose behind this consistent negligence?' he asked. Mr. Namoshi demanded immediate release of the pending remuneration, highlighting the financial burden borne by evaluators who travelled from different parts of the State to Bengaluru, spending from their own pockets for food, accommodation and transportation.

PU lecturers yet to receive remuneration for exam evaluation
Mangaluru: Nearly 65,000 lecturers from PU colleges across the state who evaluated the II PU answer scripts are yet to receive their remuneration. The evaluation for exam 1 was completed by the end of March, followed by exam 2 in May. Currently, the evaluation for exam 3 is under way, and is expected to be completed within a day or two. Ningegowda AH, president, Karnataka State PU College Lecturers' Association, said that earlier, bulk allotment was followed for disbursing payments, but this year, the direct bank transfer (DBT) system was introduced, which is facing technical issues. "The KSEAB collects Rs 400 from each candidate as exam fees, but the actual expenditure per student exceeds Rs 675. The board has sought Rs 90 crore to cover remuneration and other related expenses," said Ningegowda. Ningegowda noted that each lecturer spends around Rs 50,000 on expenses, including accommodation, during the evaluation period, a significant burden, especially for non-permanent lecturers. "We met the officials concerned, and they have given us written assurance that the payment will be cleared within a month," he added. He further added that staff involved in the evaluation of exam 3 had decided to boycott the process due to the delay in remuneration. "However, following the intervention of the association, they agreed to call off the protest," he said. Jayanand Suvarna, principal of Government PU College, Shaktinagar, and president of the Dakshina Kannada Pre-University Colleges Principals' Association, said that until the last academic year, bills were submitted manually, and the remuneration was transferred to the DDPU office, which then disbursed the payments to individual accounts. This year, however, the KSEAB introduced a new software system to disburse the honorarium directly through DBT. According to sources, lecturers are paid about Rs 864 for evaluating 24 answer scripts in addtion to TA and DA. The affected lecturers said that software issue should have been rectified in advance. "We submitted all the bills and documents on time. The delay is from the KSEAB's side. Why should we be made to suffer for no fault of ours?" they questioned.

Shortage of principals and lecturers affects govt PU colleges in Raichur
Raichur: Govt pre-university colleges in Raichur district are experiencing a severe shortage of permanent principals and lecturers, leading to heavy reliance on guest faculty. At present, out of 43 govt colleges, only four have permanent principals, and there is uncertainty regarding the appointment to the remaining posts this year. The teaching staff includes 221 permanent teachers, along with 141 guest lecturers. As regular sessions are set to begin on June 2, concerns about educational quality are increasing among students and their parents. The persistent shortage of permanent teaching staff, previously affecting primary, senior, and high schools in the district, has now spread to govt pre-university colleges. "This situation is prompting parents to explore private educational options. Yet, unable to meet the high costs associated with private colleges, disadvantaged students encounter a scenario where they are limited to the amenities offered by govt institutions. They are compelled to carry on with their education in the face of shortages, and these issues are impeding their dreams of educational progress," said Mallikarjun Dinni, a parent from the Siya Talab area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo According to DDPU Kottur Basappa, govt pre-university colleges in the district have been struggling with a shortage of permanent principals for many years. "The recruitment process was completed just a week ago, and counselling sessions for 21 individuals were held. Among these, six are assured of their positions as principals in the district, while the remaining candidates are doubtful," he said. He noted that newly appointed principals from other districts typically complete their two-year probation before returning to their home districts, creating fresh vacancies. P arents expressed concern that the district will face difficulties as govt continues to postpone recruitment for vacant positions. Resolution of these vacancies appears unlikely this year. As the academic year begins on June 2, concerns about educational standards continue to grow. The district's educational difficulties are affecting academic performance. PU teaching relies heavily on guest lecturers. Additionally, acting principals show reluctance in taking additional responsibilities for institutional enhancement, compromising educational quality. This administrative neglect is evident in the II PU results. Following the II PU results announced on April 8, the district maintains its 30th position in state rankings. The district retained this position after the 2024 results, achieving a 58.7 pass percentage. Parents voice their disappointment, noting that despite the ongoing crisis in PU education within the district, authorities concerned and elected representatives have turned a blind eye.
