Last Updated: Ujjwal Kesari's success journey began in Class 8, when his love for Physics and Maths led him to choose Science in Class 11, setting the foundation for his JEE achievement The results of JEE Advanced 2025 have been announced, and an extraordinary feat has come to light. Seventeen-year-old Ujjwal Kesari from South Delhi has secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 5 with a score of 324 out of 360. Why Choose IISc Bangalore? Instead, Ujjwal has expressed his desire to join the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. He revealed in an interview that his passion lies in research, particularly in the field of quantum physics, and he believes that IISc Bangalore is the right place for him to pursue this interest. He stated that while IITs offer excellent job opportunities with lucrative packages, his goal is not to seek employment but to advance in research. 'I was fortunate that my school supported me a lot during this journey. I could devote lot of time on self studies,' she attended LIVE online classes from FIITJEE eSchool, connecting with teachers based in Delhi. ‘I want to go to IISc Bangalore… feel like IIT would not be the right fit for me': AIR 5 Ujjwal Kesari

Every few hours, in the middle of his study marathons, 17-year-old Ujjwal Kesari from South Delhi allowed himself a reward — one short episode of Doraemon. 'I love watching animated films. I love watching Doraemon,' he said. 'But since I couldn't get distracted, I used to skip watching it so that I could study and focus on my goal. But when I took short breaks in between, I used to watch it.' That clarity and self-control helped Kesari secure the fifth position in the JEE Advanced 2025 Common Rank List released Monday, placing him among the top 10 in one of India's most competitive entrance exams. His score — 324 marks out of 360 — opens doors to the most coveted courses in the country: Computer Science at both IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi, he said. But Kesari has chosen to walk a different path. 'I want to go to IISc Bangalore,' he said. 'I made this decision because I want to go forward and pursue research, and I feel like IIT would not be the right fit for me. It is known for the best packages, but that is not what I am looking for.' Kesari's decision didn't come on a whim. He had made up his mind years ago. 'Since Class 8, I had decided that I would take the science stream in Class 11,' he said. 'My love for physics and maths made me passionate about giving the JEE examination.' What excites him most now is quantum physics, a field he hopes to pursue seriously in the coming years. 'I aim to pursue research in the quantum physics area as I think it is very fascinating and has a promising future,' he said. Kesari's preparation strategy was marked by balance and consistency. 'I always used to give equal time to all my main subjects. Even my weaknesses and strengths,' he said. 'I would not focus on taking too many breaks. I would keep the flow and consistency when I sat down to study.' The youngest of two siblings, Kesari lives with his family. 'My sister is pursuing the arts stream, and I have moved towards sciences,' he said. His father works in a private job, and his mother is a homemaker. For future aspirants, Kesari offered one practical piece of advice, a habit he strictly followed through his years of preparation: 'Stay away from the phone. Screen time is the biggest distraction these days, and it is very important to minimise it.'

‘Wish I could have done better': Devdutta Majhi, female topper in JEE Advanced with AIR 16

Devdutta Majhi from the IIT Kharagpur zone has emerged as the top female topper in the JEE Advanced, bagging an All India Rank of 16, scoring 312 marks in the Common Rank List. Hailing from Katwa, her success comes as no surprise: she has consistently excelled at academic milestones. In 2023, she was the West Bengal Madhyamik topper, followed by a perfect 100 percentile and AIR 1 in JEE Main 2025 (Session 2). 'For the last two years, I have been studying for this day. I wish I could have done a bit better,' she said. A student of Katwa Durgadasi Chaudhurani Girls' High School, Devdutta studied for 10-12 hours daily. Her dream is to join IISc Bangalore to pursue a BTech in Computing, followed by research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Over 1.8 lakh candidates appeared for the JEE Advanced this year. Her mother, Shelly Dan, a physics teacher, expressed pride and surprise. 'I am very happy for her. I had expected a good rank, but not this. She is the female topper. We were waiting for this day. She studied under my guidance. She never took tuitions, just self-study and online guidance. Many students go to Kota or Delhi, but she didn't,' Dan said. Majhi, who enjoys playing chess, caring for stray animals, and playing the violin, credited her preparation strategy to a disciplined study plan. 'I focused on theory in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics first, then practiced problem-solving. I had a lot of books for that,' she said. She also occasionally took online guidance from teachers based in Delhi and Kolkata. For aspirants, she advised that one needs hard work, discipline, and dedication.
