Sanam Teri Kasam' in UK cinemas again
As per reports by Zee News, in a groundbreaking move for Indian cinema, the 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam has been re-released across numerous cinemas in the United Kingdom. Starring Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane, the film's re-release marks the first time an Indian film has achieved such a feat. Directed by the duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Sanam Teri Kasam initially premiered in 2016 but did not fare well at the box office, earning only INR80 million during its original run. However, the film has experienced a remarkable resurgence. Its re-release in India earlier this year defied expectations, with the film collecting over INR450 million, surpassing previous re-release records held by films like Tumbbad, which garnered INR320 million. The film's success story has now extended to the UK, where theatres have reported packed screenings. Early figures suggest that Sanam Teri Kasam is performing exceptionally well, indicating a strong overseas market for the film. Hocane, who made her Bollywood debut with this film, expressed her delight over its renewed success. For the star, the re-release came with her real-life wedding with actor Ameer Gilani. In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar earlier this year, she remarked, "To be honest, if the film has waited nine years to achieve these numbers, I think it's my husband bringing in the luck for sure." The film's directors, Rao and Sapru, also shared their excitement about the re-release's success. They noted that the film's timeless love story and soulful music have contributed to its enduring appeal. The soundtrack, composed by Himesh Reshammiya, features tracks like Tera Chehra and Bewajah, which have once again climbed music charts and are trending across streaming platforms. Fans have been vocal about their support for the re-release. Social media platforms are abuzz with discussions, reviews, and fan-made content celebrating the film's return to theatres. A video capturing audience members emotionally reacting to the film's title track during a post-credit scene in a theater in Uttar Pradesh recently went viral, highlighting the deep connection viewers have with the film. Sanam Teri Kasam is a tragic love story that follows Saraswati (Hocane), a traditional librarian disowned by her family after a misunderstanding, and Inder (Rane), a brooding ex-convict who becomes her protector. As they navigate heartbreak, family conflicts, and personal sacrifices, their deepening bond transforms into an intense romance. The film gained popularity for its emotional depth, visually rich storytelling, and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack that elevates its melancholic narrative.
