Guwahati: A violent clash broke out between a mob and security forces in Manipur's Thoubal district on Monday morning. The incident occurred at Khangabok Arongthong Makhong locality at 10 am after the mob destroyed a house, shop, and foundation pillar allegedly built by an individual on a disputed land. Police later used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. No injury was reported and the situation is now under control, police said. On the other hand, police on Monday said four persons, including three women who were wrongfully confined in a house located at Langol Laimanai, were rescued on Saturday. Three persons were arrested in connection with the confinement. Police added that they demanded a sum of Rs 5 lakh from the hostages. "Further, they were found to be members of an organisation called AMO (Amour of Manipur)," police said. Also, on Sunday, police arrested eight cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) faction at two different locations. During a press conference at Langol Lai Manai, AMO vice-chairman Ningthoukhongjam Rita made it clear that the arrested Thangjam Basanti is no longer associated with their organisation, emphasising that her conduct was purely personal and bears no connection to AMO whatsoever.
