2,010 Agniveers, Including 309 women, pass out from INS Chilka
New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) 2,010 Agniveers, including 309 women Agniveers of the Indian Navy, and 276 Naviks of Indian Coast Guard, passed out as part of the sixth batch of Agniveers from the portals of INS Chilka. The post sunset Passing Out Parade was reviewed by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Commodore B Deepak Aneel, Commanding Officer INS Chilka was the Conducting Officer of the POP. Addressing the parade, FOC-in-C East congratulated the trainees and exhorted them to uphold the Navy's core values of duty, honour, courage and remain focussed on the subsequent phases of professional training. During the event, meritorious Agniveers were awarded with medals and trophies. Lalit Karki and Vikash Singh received the Chief of Naval Staff Rolling Trophy and Gold Medal for Best Agniveer SSR and MR respectively. Tatduri Akhila was recognised as the Best Woman Agniveer in overall order of merit and was awarded the Gen Bipin Rawat Rolling Trophy. Vishal Dhiman received the best Navik during the valedictory Function, FOC-in-C East presented the Overall Championship Trophy to Shivaji Division and Runners Up Trophy to Ashok Division. The Chief Guest also felicitated the high achievers veterans and eminent sports personality and unveiled the 01/25 edition of 'Ankur', the bilingual trainees' magazine of INS Chilka.A statement from the naval spokesperson stated that the POP marked the successful completion of ab-initio training. It also signified the beginning of a new chapter in their lives in the Indian Navy. Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, reviewed the parade while Commodore B Deepak Aneel, Commanding Officer INS Chilka, was the conducting officer of the POP for the 6th batch of Agniveers. Addressing the new recruits, Pendharkar said, 'We are expanding our capabilities with new-generation warships, advanced submarines, naval aviation and cutting-edge technologies such as unmanned systems, artificial intelligence and space-based maritime surveillance.' Stating that Indian Navy is confident of its legacy, and committed to shaping the future, he called upon the new Angiveers to serve with honour, courage and an unwavering commitment to the nation. He informed the gathering that as a proud maritime nation, India's economic and strategic interests are deeply linked to the oceans. 'Today's Indian Navy is a force that is modern, multi-dimensional and mission-ready, capable of safeguarding our maritime interests across the Indo-Pacific and beyond. 3 held for extorting money from Agniveer aspirants
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police arrested three persons, including two serving Navy personnel, in Khurda district on the charge of extorting money from Agniveer aspirants during a recruitment drive in November 2024, an officer said on Friday. The arrested persons were identified as Satyam Chahar, currently working at INS Kesari, Andaman and Nicobar, Vinay Kumar Ray, presently posted at INS Chilika and retired Navy official Bhoosan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, the officer said. The trio were arrested based on a complaint lodged by Lieutenant Commander Adwitiya Singh, a training correspondence officer at INS Chilka, at Balugaon police station on April 19. The case was registered under charges of cheating and extortion. In a statement, INS Chilka claimed that the Indian Navy's proactive approach foils recruitment malpractice attempts. 'During routine surveillance operations coinciding with the ongoing Agniveer recruitment process, INS Chilka detected suspicious activity indicating a possible monetary demand from a candidate,' it said. Based on the indication, actions were taken promptly and the Navy surveillance team identified a potential suspect and shared the intelligence with Odisha police authorities of Balugaon police station. 'Based on this input, the police successfully apprehended the accused. The Indian Navy is extending full cooperation to the police in the ongoing investigation,' the Navy said. Khurda SP Sagarika Nath, who is monitoring the case, said the arrested trio was accused of extorting a huge amount of money from Agniveer aspirants by promising them assistance in police verification, physical examination and securing a job. 'We have arrested three persons and are in search of two others allegedly involved in the scam. Hope to nab the remaining two soon,' Nath said, adding that the police have informed the Navy to verify whether any candidate fraudulently got recruited as Agniveer. The SP said police have seized several transaction proofs and bank documents during the course of their investigation. 'Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had been collecting huge money from job seekers with false promises of getting them employment in the Navy. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the exact network of the scam. She said police have also seized some transaction proofs and bank documents during the course of their investigation. 'As per intelligence inputs, two more persons are suspected to be involved in the racket. Police have so far frozen 12 bank accounts linked to the fraudulent activities,' the SP said. The police also said that the accused persons were part of various social media groups such as WhatsApp and Telegram to clear doubts of the candidates regarding the documentation process for recruitment and to help regarding enrolment as trainees. 'They got in touch with various candidates who were in the recruitment process including the induction process and extorted and cheated money from them on the pretext of helping them pass the recruitment examination,' the police said. The police have also seized four mobile phones from the arrested accused persons.

Three personnel were arrested on Thursday: INS Chilka's (Odisha) 'master chief at arms-II', Vinay Kumar Ray, INS Kesari's (Andaman and Nicobar) 'electrical artificer apprentice-V', Satyam Chahar, and former Navy employee, Bhooshan. They face accusations of fraud and monetary exploitation of Agniveer candidates during recruitment at INS Chilka under the Agnipath scheme. "Following protocol, we requested Indian Navy's permission to arrest two serving personnel stationed at Andaman and Nicobar after discovering evidence of their involvement in recruitment irregularities. The Navy has granted the approval," Nath told TOI. The identities and positions of the two personnel remain undisclosed. On Friday, Indian Navy authorities attributed the police crackdown to their robust surveillance and intelligence networks. Investigation continues," Nath stated, adding, "Evidence shows the accused demanded between Rs 30,000 and Rs 1.2 lakh per candidate, offering assistance in clearing recruitment stages including document verification, police checks, medical examinations and other procedures through fraudulent means."
