"Should Have Grabbed The Bull By The Horns": Hardik Pandya Criticised For Bowling Call In IPL 2025 Qualifier
Hardik Pandya is facing heavy criticism for his bowling decisions during Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash against Punjab Kings. MI, defending 203 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, crashed out of the tournament after PBKS chased down the target with ease. What surprised many was Hardik's choice to not complete his full quota of four overs, despite bowling well and taking a key wicket. Former SRH coach Tom Moody was among those who questioned the MI captain's decision-making during the high-pressure game. Hardik bowled just two overs in the match, giving away 19 runs and dismissing Josh Inglis. He could've had another wicket too, but Trent Boult dropped Nehal Wadhera, denying Hardik a second. Despite this promising start, the MI skipper decided against bowling himself again — a move that left experts baffled. 'Hardik should have had a two-for. That second over, that catch that you'd expect Trent Boult to take 99 times out of 100… he fresh-aired it. Not even a firm glove on it. He was executing what was required on that surface,' Moody said on ESPNCricinfo. Moody felt Hardik needed to show more responsibility as captain. 'He should have come back and grabbed the bull by the horns,' he added. What made the decision more puzzling was that Hardik handed the ball to England pacer Reece Topley — who was playing his first game of IPL 2025. Topley struggled badly, conceding 40 runs in just three overs, and looked far from match-ready. 'Topley looked like a bowler that was conditioned for nets but way off the mark for real, high-pressure, competitive cricket,' said Moody. 'It's tough to come in cold and deliver under pressure, but the blame lies with the team management for the timing of the selection.' Mumbai also underutilised Mitchell Santner. The New Zealand spinner bowled only two overs for 15 runs despite being economical. Moody believed Hardik avoided using Santner due to Shreyas Iyer being at the crease — a move aimed at avoiding a bad match-up. However, the move didn't work. Shreyas Iyer went on to score a brilliant unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, steering Punjab to the final where they'll face Royal Challengers Bengaluru. While Mumbai's turnaround this season was impressive, questions around Hardik's leadership in crunch moments continue to grow louder.

Telling Jasprit Bumrah What To Do?: Harbhajan Singh Slams Lasith Malinga For Breaking Players' Spirits
In a dramatic turn of events during IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, Mumbai Indians' defeat to Punjab Kings sparked more than just on-field analysis. The five-time champions were knocked out after Punjab chased down a mammoth 204-run target with 7 wickets in hand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While Shreyas Iyer 's unbeaten 87 stole the show, former MI star Harbhajan Singh pointed fingers at Mahela Jayawardene and Lasith Malinga for their excessive involvement from the dugout, claiming it broke the team's spirit and interfered with the players' execution. Harbhajan, speaking on his YouTube channel, didn't mince words. He strongly criticised head coach Jayawardene and bowling coach Malinga for over-instructing during the crunch moments of the match, particularly when MI bowlers were leaking runs. 'Look at the Mumbai Indians dugout. When they were leaking runs, there was way too much involvement from the outside. Coaches are telling a bowler like Bumrah what to do and what not. A dressing room needs to remain calm and composed. Coaches should only give advice. Don't show desperation. So somewhere I felt that when this happens way too much, it breaks their spirit,' Harbhajan said. The former India spinner, who was part of several MI triumphs, felt the continuous hand gestures and coaching instructions were not just excessive, but also unnecessary, especially when directed at seasoned campaigners like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah. In fact, a moment from MI's Eliminator against Gujarat Titans had already gone viral, where Jayawardene was seen animatedly instructing Bumrah from the dugout. Bumrah appeared visibly annoyed and signalled him to calm down, highlighting the brewing tension between the dugout and the players on the field. 'Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya – these are big players. And when they are playing, let them do what they need to do to get the right result for the team. They have won many trophies together. They needed to be shown a lot more faith, but the coaching staff time and again was interfering and gesturing with their hands,' Harbhajan added. He insisted that coaches should show faith in experienced players and let them take charge during high-pressure situations. 'It's not always about micromanagement. Sometimes, it's just about trusting your men to deliver,' Harbhajan said. Despite their exit in Qualifier 2, Mumbai Indians can walk away with their heads held high. Coming off a last-place finish in IPL 2024, and under heavy scrutiny after appointing Hardik Pandya as captain, MI had a dismal start this season too – losing five of their first six games. Punjab Kings capitalised, with Shreyas Iyer anchoring the chase, to book their place in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru – ensuring IPL 2025 will have a new champion. Rohit Sharma Says Goodbye To Mumbai Indians Camp After IPL 2025 Journey Ends, Meeting With Arjun Tendulkar Viral
Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 journey ended on Sunday with a loss to Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad. The five-time IPL champions failed to defend a total of 203 runs and were knocked out. Always a slow starter in the IPL, MI lifted their game in IPL 2025 after initial setbacks to qualify for the playoffs. However, a great innings by Shreyas Iyer helped PBKS get over the line in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2. After the innings ended, it was time for Mumbai Indians squad members to say good-bye to each other. In several videos, Rohit Sharma can be seen meeting members of the squads before leaving the airport. One particular video, where he can be seen greeting Arjun Tendulkar, is going viral. The way Rohit Sharma is meeting everyone from Mumbai Indians players to the smallest support staff before going home. The most humble and down-to-earth man @ImRo45 — (@rushiii_12) June 2, 2025 Rohit Sharma met Suryakumar Yadav and said goodbye to him while returning home from the airport. The pure brothers bond between RO & SKY — (@rushiii_12) June 2, 2025 Following his side's loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Qualifier two and their consequent elimination, Mumbai Indians (MI) coach Mahela Jayawardene expressed happiness with his team's campaign and added that a few mistakes cost them. "I think we probably left a bit of runs on the park with the bat and we lost our way. Those back-to-back wickets probably slowed us down a little bit, but I still thought 200 was a good score in a qualifier," said Jayawardene as quoted by MI's official website. "The pressure picked up after those wickets as well up front (of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma), and I think a few mistakes cost us. The execution was not up to what our standard is," MJ stated. Jayawardene said that the wicket played well in both innings and credited his team for starting off well and staying positive despite the rain delaying the action. "We put them under pressure and had two good top-order partnerships. We were going at 140 at one stage scoring 10 runs an over and, then those two back-to-back wickets probably slowed us down a little bit. I thought 200 was a decent score on this wicket on this ground. It's just that we did not execute well." said the coach. On an up and down campaign, which saw the team bounce back from one win in first four games to register a six-match unbeaten streak to qualify for playoffs and beat Gujarat Titans (GT) in a high-scoring eliminator, he said, "I think it was a good campaign for us... the way we started and how we regrouped as a team and played some really good cricket is commendable.
