Kraut goes clear to take Grand Prix on final day at RDS

The 2025 Dublin Horse Show has come to a close at the RDS in Ballsbridge where American rider Laura Kraut and the 11-year-old mare Bisquetta emerged as winners of the Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland with what the only clear round of the competition. A field of 40 of the world's top horses and riders battled to find the illusive clear round, but it wasn't until Kraut entered the arena as second-last to jump before the audience saw their first and only combination to emerge fault free. Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa and Major Tom finished as runners-up with the fastest of 11 four-fault scores while Cork's Shane Sweetnam finished best of the Irish in third place on the podium with the Patrick Connolly-bred CSF James Kann Cruz (ISH). Former Olympic and World champion Laura Kraut went 39th of 40 riders and won the Grand Prix with the only clear round on Bisquetta 📺 Watch The Dublin Horse Show on @RTEOne and @RTEPlayer #RDSDublinHorseShow — RTÉ Sport (@RTEsport) August 10, 2025 Although the Rolex Grand Prix and Friday's Aga Khan illuded the Irish, they did dominate the remaining international competitions at the Dublin Horse Show, scoring no less than eight five-star wins throughout the week. Derry's Jordan Coyle grabs another win at Dublin Horse Show

Derry's Jordan Coyle scored his second win in as many days at the 2025 Dublin Horse Show, with a superb performance in today's Cashel Palace Hotel Stakes. Riding the 14-year-old gelding Chaccolino, Coyle was one of six riders to make it into the jump-off. His second round clear in 37.19 seconds proved unbeatable, with American world number eight McLain Ward and Imperial HBF taking runner-up spot in 38.56, while Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa recorded his second podium finish of the week, taking third place with Major Tom. Tipperary's Tom Wachman earlier warmed-up for Friday's Aga Khan with a victory in the Anglesea Speed Stakes. Wachman guided the nine-year-old mare Hawaii to the fastest clear in 69.51 seconds, to finish just ahead of Switzerland's Bryan Balsiger in second with Fais Toi Belle du Seigneur Pleville (69.65), while Denis Lynch finished third with Katja (70.10). Irish riders have now taken victory in four of the five international competitions so far at the Dublin Horse Show and will be hoping that winning form continues on Friday for the team, who have been drawn fifth to jump in the Nations Cup of Ireland for the famous Aga Khan trophy. The Netherlands will be the pathfinders followed by Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Great Britain, Mexico and defending champions USA. Team manager Michael Blake has named a four-man team of Tipperary's Denis Lynch with Vistogrand, Tipperary's Tom Wachman with Tabasco De Toxandria Z, Kilkenny's Seamus Hughes Kennedy with ESI Rocky (ISH) and Meath's Cian O'Connor with Bentley De Sury. For Wachman, his Aga Khan appearance comes 10 years after his first jumped in the famous Ballsbridge arena in 2015 in the 12.2 pony competition. "That's probably my first real memory. It's a great class, always scheduled after the Aga Khan. There's usually a good crowd for it, and it's very fast and competitive," the 20-year-old recalls. "It's a home show, with a big crowd here, and everyone's supporting the Irish. You meet a lot of people you mightn't see all year, but you meet them in Dublin—that's how it has always been since I started coming here. It's a special week, and I always look forward to it." Ireland's last Aga Khan win came in 2022 and they go in search of what would be their 25th Aga Khan victory in front of their home fans.

Seamus Hughes Kennedy and Darragh Kenny finish well at European Show Jumping Championships

Seamus Hughes Kennedy and Darragh Kenny completed a fine week for the Irish at the 38th Longines FEI European Show Jumping Championships to finish fifth and seventh respectively in the individual standings. Both elicited foot-perfect rounds from ESI Rocky (ISH) and Eddy Blue to record outstanding finishes from a field of 89 that started out on Wednesday. Kilkenny youngster Hughes Kennedy and the ten-year-old bred by his uncles Andrew and Niall, did not have a jumping error in five rounds in Spain and while one time fault left the 22-year-old frustrated, in the end, it only cost him fourth rather than a medal. He had started the day in seventh, so his tally of one fault from his fourth and fifth rounds brought him up two places with a paltry 3.16 faults. Kenny recorded a brilliant double clear on Carol Sollak's Eddy Blue, who was very unfortunate to knock his only fence all week, when having a stumble in Wednesday's speed and handiness class won by Daniel Coyle and Legacy. Victory went to Richard Vogel (GER) with United Touch S on a staggering 0.01 faults, accumulated by virtue of finishing three-hundredths of a second off Coyle and Legacy. Britain's Scott Brash took silver with Hello Folie (1.08) while Gilles Thomas, a star of Belgium's gold medal winning performance in the team event, completed the podium with Ermitage Kalone (1.37). The Irish pair were central cogs as Michael Blake's unit finished fourth in the team event, ahead of 18 nations, and they continued to shine in the white heat of elite competition. Making his senior championship debut, Hughes Kennedy was over the moon, although there was a hint of what might have been, having finished so close to medalling in both the team and medal competitions. "I'm delighted with the result in the finish," said Hughes Kennedy. "Pity not to get a medal in the end after doing the full week without knocking a jump but the plan the first day, everything came off exactly the way we wanted and in the end that wasn't quite enough to win a medal. We were expecting a few more people to have a mistake here or there. "I was delighted with the way the horse jumped, delighted with the opportunity to be able to come out here that Michael Blake has given us to come and be on the team. "It was unfortunate to just miss out on a medal for the teams and to also just miss out on a medal in the individual result as well but we couldn't ask for anymore. The horse jumped brilliant, it was a great championship, especially our first senior championship. "It was a long week and everything went according to plan and to be fifth in the end was a great result and I look forward to the future with such a special horse."
