Iraq to close al-Hol file by end of 2025

Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq will officially shut down the al-Hol Camp file by the end of 2025, National Security Advisor Qassim al-Araji announced on Monday, concluding a years-long effort to address ISIS-related repatriation of Iraqis. Located in Syria's al-Hasakah province, the camp holds 40,000 to 50,000 people—primarily displaced Syrians and Iraqis from ISIS-linked families—within a setting long described as a breeding ground for extremism amid ongoing security warnings. Since 2021, Iraq has carried out 28 repatriation operations from al-Hol, including 11 this year alone. In the latest return, 233 families—812 individuals—were brought back. Previous waves included 865 people in April and 935 in June, bringing the total number of returnees to 15,000. Of those, 10,000 have been reintegrated into their communities, while 5,000 remain in rehabilitation at al-Jadaa Camp near Mosul.

NIA Files Chargesheet Against Tamil Nadu Man In ISIS Radicalisation Case

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted a key accused linked to terror outfit ISIS for alleged involvement in radicalising Muslim youth in Tamil Nadu, officials said on Saturday. A Alfasith, hailing from Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, has been named as an accused in a charge sheet filed before a NIA special court, Poonamalle (TN), they said. Alfasith was closely associated with radicalised Islamists and die-hard supporters of ISIS, including Mohemmed Ashik and Sathik Batcha, who were involved in several terror-related cases in Tamil Nadu, the probe agency alleged in a statement. The NIA, during investigation, found sufficient evidence establishing that Alfasith and his associates circulated incriminating ISIS-related videos, documents and images through social media platforms, targeting hundreds of young Muslim boys, it said. They had created several WhatsApp and Telegram groups, such as "Islamic State" and "Black Flag Soldiers," to promote unlawful activities threatening the unity, security, and communal harmony of the country, the NIA said. Their agenda was to spread ISIS ideology and radicalise the vulnerable youth, it said. Investigations further revealed that Alfasith followed the activities of the global terrorist group ISIS, and had downloaded incriminating videos and documents from the ISIS-operated Telegram Channel 'nashida33' ("Al Wala Val Baro"), the probe agency said.

Alfasith, who worked as an ambulance driver, was arrested in Tirumullaivoyal earlier this year following searches by the NIA in Chennai and Mayiladuthurai. NIA arrests two ISIS sleeper cell fugitives linked to 2023 Pune IED case at Mumbai Airport

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two fugitives identified as members of a sleeper cell of the banned ISIS terrorist organization. The arrests are linked to a 2023 case involving the fabrication and testing of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Pune, Maharashtra, according to an official statement from the NIA. 'The two men, identified as Abdullah Faiyaz Shaikh Diaperwala and Talha Khan, were intercepted by the Bureau of Immigration at the Mumbai International Airport T2 when they tried to return to India from Jakarta, Indonesia, where they had been hiding out. The NIA team then took them into custody and arrested them,' said the release. The NIA had earlier announced a cash reward of ₹ 3 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of the two accused. Both individuals had been evading arrest for over two years and were the subjects of non-bailable warrants issued by the NIA Special Court in Mumbai. The case relates to a criminal conspiracy by these men, along with eight other ISIS Pune sleeper module members already arrested and in judicial custody. "They had conspired to commit terrorist acts with the aim to disturb India's peace and communal harmony by waging a war against the Government of India in furtherance of the ISIS agenda to establish Islamic rule in the country through violence and terror," said NIA in an official release. These two men, already charged with a chargesheet along with the other arrested accused, had been engaged in assembling IEDs from a house rented by Abdullah Faiyaz Shaikh in Kondhwa, Pune. During the 2022-2023 period, they also organised and participated in a bomb-making and training workshop, besides carrying out a controlled explosion to test an IED fabricated by them, at these premises, NIA said in a release. The NIA, which has been actively investigating ISIS-related activities in India to thwart the group's violent and anti-national terror plots, had earlier filed a chargesheet against all 10 accused in the case. The charges were filed under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A), Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In addition to Abdullah Faiyaz Shaikh and Talha Khan, who were recently arrested, the other accused in the case include Mohammed Imran Khan, Mohammed Yunus Saki, Abdul Kadir Pathan, Simab Nasiruddin Kazi, Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Shamil Nachan, Akif Nachan, and Shahnawaz Alam, said the release.
