Sunway Construction Shares Up After Being Spared From Anti-graft Probe
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Sunway Construction Group Bhd's shares on Bursa Malaysia went up in the early session today after the company and its subsidiaries were spared from an ongoing anti-graft probe involving one of its employees. At 10.15 am, the counter rose 10 sen to RM5.86, with a total of 1.85 million shares changing hands. RHB Investment Bank Bhd believes that the latest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) update may instil confidence towards the group's established robust mechanisms and systems that uphold anti-corruption compliance, as the case remains an isolated one. 'The adoption and certification of the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) demonstrates its commitment to ethical business practices, requiring substantial financial investment in system development, amongst others. 'We think that Sunway Construction will continuously enhance processes and internal controls, moving forward,' it said in a note today. On Tuesday, the group said that it had received an official written confirmation from MACC clarifying that the scope of its investigation pertained solely to the personal conduct of the individual concerned, and that it was an isolated case. 'MACC has further confirmed that neither Sunway Construction nor any of its subsidiaries are under investigation under any provision of the MACC Act 2009,' it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia. Meanwhile, CGS International Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd sees this development as a positive catalyst while also removing a key overhang on the stock. 'Also, given its strong brand equity and parent company, we believe this could pave the way for more external construction wins,' it said in a separate note.

SunCon's anti-corruption framework gains confidence boost
KUALA LUMPUR: The latest update from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to strengthen confidence in Sunway Construction (SunCon) Group Bhd's anti-corruption framework, with the incident assessed as an isolated case, RHB Investment Bank Bhd said. The investment bank noted that SunCon's adoption of the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification highlights its firm commitment to ethical and transparent business practices. The certification also reflects the group's substantial investment in system development and compliance infrastructure. "It also obtained the ISO 37001:2016 ABMS certification in May, representing a significant investment in system development, employee training, audits, and continuous monitoring to uphold compliance. "We think that SunCon will continuously enhance processes and internal controls moving forward," it said in a note. RHB IB stated that it has not revised its earnings estimates but has raised its ESG score from 3.1 to 3.3 following an upward adjustment to the company's Governance (G) score. Consequently, the new target price is set at RM6.80, up from RM6.55. The research house noted that SunCon's upcoming project wins could come from the Seremban Sentral development and several data centres in the Klang Valley, with results expected in the second half of this year. This is alongside potential expansion work for the JHB1X0 data centre in Sedenak, which has a total planned capacity of 200–300 megawatts.

Pahang to introduce anti-corruption systems in all govt departments
KUANTAN: To strengthen integrity and governance, the Pahang government will introduce the Corruption Risk Management (CRM) system and the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) in all state government departments. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the initiative builds on the successful implementation of these systems in state-owned companies and will be expanded to government agencies. 'These systems ensure each organisation has a robust anti-corruption framework, reducing risks of leakages and abuse of power,' he said in his speech during the signing of the state's Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) here today. The CRM system helps organisations identify and manage risks related to corruption and misconduct, while the ISO 37001 framework focuses on detecting, preventing and improving anti-corruption measures. Meanwhile, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman likened corruption to a disease, stressing the dangers of addiction and its corrosive effects on the soul. 'Corruption addiction is like drug addiction. It isn't easy to stop. But unlike drugs, corruption ends when an individual loses their position or power,' he said at the event. Azmi also compared corruption to cancer, warning that it destroys individuals, families and communities if left unchecked. 'As long as we hold power and influence, we remain at risk of corruption,' he added.
