Naraen Pranav, Mukesh Nelavalli among 11 Indian athletes to win medals at ISSF Junior World Cup
New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Indian athletes shone brightly at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2025, winning a total of 11 medals- three gold, four silver and four bronze medals. A 57-member Indian contingent was sent to the tournament, which was held in Suhl, Germany, from 19-27 May, of which eight athletes trained at the Gun for Glory academy, run by Gagan Narang Sports Foundation. Two promising athletes from the academy, Naraen Pranav and Mukesh Nelavalli, made the nation proud and returned with medals. Naraen won a silver and a bronze in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Junior Team event and 10m Air Rifle Junior Men event, respectively, whereas Mukesh grabbed a bronze medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Junior Men's event. Another athlete, Anushka Thokur, successfully made it to the finals of the 50m 3P Junior Women's event but finished 7th in the finals. All eight athletes from the academy, who represented India at the tournament, trained under GNSPF's Flagship Program Project Leap, a sponsored project that aims to inculcate holistic improvement in selected athletes, targeting technical, physical and mental aspects of the sport. On winning two medals in the tournament, Naraen Pranav expressed his happiness and stated, as quoted by Gagan Narang Sports Foundation press release, 'It feels great and is a major moment in my career so far. Just being able to represent the country on such a global stage is a great honour,r and to return with a medal makes it even more special. I would like to thank my coaches at the Gun for Glory academy and mentor Gagan Narang sir for guiding me at every step, because of which I was able to win these two medals', he said. The 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist, Gagan Narang, also expressed his pride in the achievements of the academy's athletes and said, 'We are extremely proud of these youngsters who made the entire nation stand tall at the ISSF Junior World Cup. This achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication and resilience they have put in their training all these years. Our academy aims to continue building many more such athletes and ensuring that the future of Indian shooting is in safe hands.' (ANI)

India increase their tally as they won four more medals at ISSF Junior World Cup 2025
Suhl [Germany], May 25 (ANI): Team India has bagged four more medals - one gold, one silver and two bronze - to their tally at the ongoing ISSF Junior World Cup 2025, as per the The women's 10m air rifle event was the highlight of Saturday, with Shambhavi Shravan Kshirsagar claiming gold and Ojasvi Thakur bagging silver. Earlier on Saturday, Naraen Pranav Vanitha Suresh set the ball rolling by winning a bronze in the men's 10m air rifle event before Mukesh Nelavalli matched the colour of his medal in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event. In the women's 10m air rifle event, Shambhavi Kshirsagar, the Khelo India Youth Games champion from earlier this year, shot 253.0 in the final to finish in pole position. Ojasvi Thakur, meanwhile, managed 251.8 to reverse the order in which the two Indian shooters had finished the qualifying round. With 633.2 in the qualifiers, Ojasvi topped the table ahead of Shambhavi, who managed 633.1. Italy's Carlotta Salafia grabbed the bronze in the event with 230.5. Naraen, who had topped the men's 10m air rifle event's qualifying round with a score of 632.1, shot 227.9 in the final to finish behind the People's Republic of China's Liwanlin Huang (230) and the USA's Braden Wayne Peiser (229.0). Liwanlin Huang had won the silver medal last year. Mukesh Nelavalli just about made it to the medal round of the men's 25m pistol event after placing sixth in the qualifiers with a score of 573 - 17x. He then shot 22 in the final to finish third after edging out Hungary's Mate Redecsi in a shootoff in the final elimination stage. Poland's Wiktor Lukasz Kopiwoda shot 23 to clinch the gold and Thomas Clement Chinours of France shot one less to bag the silver in the event. The haul on Saturday doubled India's medal tally at the junior ISSF World Cup from four to eight and kept them at the top of the standings. Adriyan Karmakar, son of Arjuna awardee Joydeep Karmakar, won a silver in the men's 50m rifle prone and grabbed a silver in the three positions variant. Kanak clinched a gold medal in women's 10m air pistol while Olympian Raiza Dhillon took a silver in women's skeet. India have sent a 57-member contingent to Suhl, which is the first Junior ISSF World Cup of the year. A total of 638 U21 athletes from 59 countries are competing in 17 medal events across Olympic shooting and non-Olympic disciplines. ISSF Junior World Cup 2025: India shooter Adriyan Karmakar secures bronze in men's 50m rifle 3 positions event
Suhl [Germany], May 23 (ANI): Indian shooter Adriyan Karmakar continued his sublime form at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2025 and bagged a bronze medal in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event on Friday in Suhl, Germany. The 20-year-old Indian shooter clinched his second medal of the Suhl meet. He had previously won silver in the 50m rifle prone event with a junior national record. Adriyan Karmakar scored 446.6 points in the medal round to finish behind French Olympian Romain Aufrere (459.7) and Norway's Jens Oestli (459.1). Adriyan is the son of Olympian and Arjuna awardee Joydeep Karmakar, who finished in the fourth spot in the men's 50m rifle prone event at the London 2012 Olympics and missed the medal by a whisker. Apart from his recent heroics, Adriyan is also the Khelo India Youth Games champion in the prone event and the junior national champion in the 50m rifle 3P. In the qualifying round, Adriyan secured fourth place with a score of 588 points, while Aufrere Romain topped the round with a staggering score of 590. Meanwhile, India's Nitin Waghmare (579 points), Manvendra Singh Shekhawat (570) and Harshvardhan Singh (569) failed to make the top eight. Earlier in the tournament, India's skeet shooter Raiza Dhillon bagged a silver medal in the ISSF Junior World Cup 2025. The 21-year-old Indian shooter, who won a silver medal at the Asian Championships last year, landed 51 of her possible 60 shots in the final to finish behind Great Britain's Phoebe Bodley-Scott, who scored 53 on Thursday. This was Bodley-Scott's second junior ISSF World Cup gold medal after winning the same event at the same venue three years ago. Annabella Hettmer of Germany clinched bronze with 38. Dhillon had made the cut for the six-woman medal round by finishing second in the qualifying round with a score of 116. (ANI)

Adriyan Karmakar sets junior national record, opens India's medal tally at Suhl
Suhl (Germany), May 20 (UNI) Adriyan Karmakar, son of Olympian and Arjuna awardee Joydeep Karmakar, clinched the silver medal in the men's 50m rifle prone event at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2025 here on Tuesday, registering India's first medal of the competition. Making his debut at an ISSF World Cup, the 20-year-old shot a stellar 626.7 – a new junior national record – narrowly missing the gold by 0.3 points to Sweden's Jesper Johansson, who scored 627.0. Griffin Lake of the United States took the bronze with 624.6. Adriyan, a former Khelo India Youth Games gold medallist and junior national champion in the rifle 3-position event, delivered a composed performance, emerging as one of the earliest finishers in the event that saw stiff international competition. Among the other Indian contenders, Rohit Kanyan (15) placed 12th with a total of 620.2, while Vedant Nitin Waghmare ended in 35th position with 614.4. In the women's 50m rifle prone event, Anushka Thokur finished sixth with a score of 623.5. Prachi Gaikwad followed at 22nd with 618.3. The Junior World Cup, being hosted in Suhl until May 26, features 638 athletes from 59 countries competing across 17 medal events, including Olympic and non-Olympic shooting disciplines for the U-21 category. India is fielding a 57-member squad led by Paris 2024 Olympian Raiza Dhillon and is contesting in all events. Indian shooters will next compete in the 10m air pistol events scheduled for Wednesday.
