Unusual weather system to bring clouds and rain to UAE
Image: Getty Images The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a detailed forecast warning of unusual summer weather conditions across the UAE from July 25 to 28, 2025. The rare weather event is being attributed to the influence of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), a key global weather driver that appears to be shifting due to climate change. The ITCZ—where trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge—is known for triggering heavy rainfall and dense cloud cover. According to global climate models and recent NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) research, the zone's movement plays a critical role in tropical weather systems. While the ITCZ typically remains south of the Gulf during summer, the latest forecast highlights its abnormal northward expansion, bringing upper-air low pressure, cloud formation, and isolated rain to the UAE. الحالة الجوية المتوقعة من الجمعة 25 إلى الإثنين 28 يوليو 2025 The expected weather from Friday, 25 to Monday, 28 July 2025 — المركز الوطني للأرصاد (@ncmuae) This rare extension of low pressure in the upper atmosphere, combined with the interaction of northeasterly and westerly winds, is expected to result in rainy areas and cloud development across parts of the country, the NCM stated.

UAE weather alert: Rain, thunderstorms, and blowing dust forecast for the weekend
Dark clouds gather over the eastern UAE as forecasters warn of thunderstorms, rain, and dust storms this weekend/ Image Composite: @ncmuae, representative TL;DR Rain, thunder, and possible hail expected across eastern, southern, and inland areas from Friday, July 25 to Monday, July 28. Strong winds and low visibility due to blowing dust may affect outdoor plans. Hot and humid conditions continue, with temperatures pushing 48°C in some parts. Residents across the UAE may want to rethink weekend plans, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather alert for possible thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds between Friday, July 25 and Monday, July 28, 2025. The forecast points to an unstable weather system developing over the eastern, southern, and some interior areas. The likely culprits? A combination of low-pressure zones, both at the surface and higher up, along with humid air flowing in from the Arabian Sea and Sea of Oman. Add to that the northward shift of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and conditions are ripe for cloud build-up, rain, and even hail in some places. Despite the rain, don't expect cooler days. Daytime highs are still expected to hit the high 40s in inland regions. Humidity, especially in coastal areas, will remain high in the evenings. What's Driving the Weather? Low-Pressure Systems: A mix of surface and upper-air low-pressure systems is moving over the region. These pressure drops make the atmosphere unstable, encouraging cloud formation and rainfall. Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ): This equatorial zone brings hot and humid air, rising temperatures, and stormy conditions. Its northward movement over the Arabian Peninsula is helping trigger storm clouds. Moist Winds from the Sea: Wet southeasterly winds from the Sea of Oman are clashing with northeasterly winds over the land. This mix fuels convective clouds, the kind that often lead to rain, thunder, and even hail. What to Expect (July 25–28) Rain: Mostly in the east and south, especially in the afternoons. Intensity may vary from light to heavy. Thunder & Hail: Localised thunderstorms could bring lightning and even hail in some areas. Wind: Gusts could stir up sand and dust, reducing visibility. Temperature: Inland: 44°C to 48°C, Coastal: 40°C to 43°C Humidity: High in coastal areas, especially during late evenings and early mornings. Sea Conditions: Slightly rough in both the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman. NCM's Advice to the Public The NCM urges people to follow official updates and stay clear of valleys and low-lying areas during rain, where water can collect quickly. Outdoor activities, especially hiking or camping in mountainous regions, should be avoided during storm alerts.

UAE weather: Red, yellow alerts issued for fog; temperatures to rise
Residents in the UAE can expect rainfall in some parts of the country on Friday, July 25, according to the forecast by the met department. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said in its bulletin that skies will be partly cloudy, with hazy conditions at times. There is a chance of convective cloud formation in the east, extending to some internal areas and potentially bringing rainfall, along with a rise in temperatures. Conditions are likely to get humid by night and Saturday morning over some western coastal areas with a probability of mist formation. There will be light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times during daytime, causing blowing dust, with a speed of 10kmph and 25kmph, reaching 40kmph. Authorities have issued a red and yellow alert for fog in the areas marked in the map below: The alert says that there will be "fog formation with a deterioration in horizontal visibility". The sea conditions will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea. Temperatures in Abu Dhabi are expected to witness a high of 43°C and a low of 32°C, while Dubai will see a high of 44°C and a low of 32°C. Sharjah will likely see a high of 44°C and a low of 31°C. Weather over the weekend The NCM also forecast unstable weather conditions across parts of country over the coming weekend, as an extension of surface and upper-air low pressure systems, coupled with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). The met department forecasts the formation of rainy clouds from Friday, July 25, to Monday, July 28, particularly over eastern, southern, and some inland areas. These clouds may bring moderate to heavy rain in some areas, along with possible thunder and strong winds. Experts say these patterns are expected to continue intermittently over the next few days — with a more active system forecast around July 25-26. Dr Ahmed Habib, a veteran meteorologist with the NCM, had earlier told the Khaleej Times that the recent weather activity is linked to a combination of atmospheric systems, including a low-pressure system moving in from the east, moisture-laden air from the Arabian Sea, and the northward shift of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

NCM: Rainfall expected in parts of UAE until July 28
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather alert, forecasting rainfall of varying intensity in parts of the UAE through Monday, 28 July. According to the NCM, convective clouds are expected to form over eastern and southern areas of the country, with chances of some areas experiencing hail, lightning and thunder. The weather is attributed to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) moving northward, along with low-pressure systems and humid air masses from the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman. These conditions, combined with rising daytime temperatures and mountainous terrain, are increasing the likelihood of rainstorms. Winds are expected to be southeasterly to northeasterly, moderate to strong at times, particularly near convective clouds. Blowing dust and sand may reduce visibility in affected areas. The sea is expected to be slightly rough in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, the NCM added. الحالة الجوية المتوقعة من الجمعة 25 إلى الإثنين 28 يوليو 2025 #حالة_جوية #حالة الطقس #الإمارات #المركز_الوطني_للأرصاد The expected weather from Friday, 25 to Monday, 28 July 2025 #WeatherCondition #Weather #UAE #NationalCenterOfMeteorology — المركز الوطني للأرصاد (@ncmuae) July 24, 2025

Chance of convective cloud formation from Friday to Monday: NCM
ABU DHABI: The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said that local convective clouds are expected to form in the eastern and southern areas of the country accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity as a result of the region being affected during this period by the extension of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) moving from the south toward the country, along with the advancement of surface and upper-level low-pressure systems from the south, and the influx of humid air masses from the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman toward the country, coupled with rising daytime temperatures and the presence of the eastern mountains. In its latest weather update from Friday, 25th July to Monday, 28th July, the NCM said:''There is a chance of convective cloud formation accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity, possibly with small hailstones, lightning, and thunder at times, over some eastern and southern areas, extending to some internal regions.'' Winds will be Southeasterly to northeasterly, moderate in speed, becoming active to strong at times with the convective clouds, causing blowing dust and sand, leading to reduced horizontal visibility. Sea will be slightly rough in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
