Presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley ran into an unfortunate technical blunder while trying to get an update. Ben, 46, told the audience: "Phil is cooking up a delicious dish for the whole family and he's live from The This Morning allotment." "It looks wonderful down there, Philip. We're trying to connect up his ear - can you hear us, Phil?" The technical blunder saw Phil unable to hear Ben as he instead continued preparing the dish he was working. Cat laughed as she quipped: "He could be just ignoring us", while Ben remarked: "Oh, dear." Looking for a solution, Ben asked out loud: "Has anyone got a phone? Someone phone him. Can the cameraman hear us?" He added: "So, nobody can hear us at the moment. This is quite fun, we can just watch them and see what they get up to." In the background, soaps expert Sharon Marshall said she was calling Phil on her phone. After showing a contest for viewers, however, the show was soon back on track. This Morning star reveals HUGE change to the show amid ITV cuts The presenters managed to successfully connect to Phil in the allotment this time. Elsewhere, a This Morning star revealed bosses have made a U-turn on a bizarre rule amid ITV cuts. Sweeping changes were announced last month to ITV Daytime shows that will impact the likes of This Morning, Loose Women and Lorraine. More than 220 jobs will be lost as part of the shake-up — meaning almost half of the 450 employed on the four flagship shows GMB, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will be let go. But amid the changes, This Morning have introduced a style change. Ben Shephard's career to date 1998 - Got his big break when he hosted The Bigger Breakfast for Channel 4 2000 - Joined GMTV breakfast (now GMB) presenting Entertainment Today before becoming a permanent host in 2005 2004 - Ben hosted the first three series of The X Factor's spin-off series Xtra Factor 2006 - Presented singing contestant Soapstar Superstar alongside Ferne Britton 2006 - Landed his own Saturday show with Magic Radio 2008 - Hosted Who Dares, Sings! with Denise van Outen 2009 - Ben presented revived the classic game show The Krypton Factor 2010 - Signed a reported £495k deal with Sky Sports to front Goals on Sunday and other sporting specials 2013 - Returned to ITV daytime with Tipping Point 2015 - Co-hosted Ninja Warrior UK with Rochelle Humes and Chris Kamara 2019 - Quit Sky Sports and Goals on Sunday 2024 - Left Good Morning Britain to join This Morning with Cat Deeley The show has long had an unwritten rule in place that meant presenters could not wear a specific item of clothing. However, show staple Rochelle Humes said on TikTok: "There's a new rule, we didn't used to be allowed to wear jeans, did we? "But we can wear jeans now. This is amazing news for me." This Morning airs on ITV1 and ITVX.

Inside This Morning's desperate bid to slash costs from axing Alison Hammond's trips to LA to banning outside filming
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS Morning's secret cash cuts have been revealed amid ITV Daytime's strict budget cuts. It appeared that the fledgling daytime show had come out largely unscathed in ITV's latest announcement about schedule changes and cuts to its daytime output, however, it has since been claimed that This Morning will be facing a period of change from January 2026. The programme has been known for going all-out, including jetting Alison Hammond to LA to interview Hollywood's top talent as well as various outside broadcasts but it is now expected that these will all be put to bed in order to bring down costs. It is understood to be the price This Morning has had to pay after not being subjected to any schedule shake-ups and on-air talent axings like its counterparts, Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and Loose Women. Insiders have claimed that the show will be scaled-back and that their usual flashy, over-the-top segments will be no more. Speaking about how This Morning will be affected by the ITV crisis, the insider told the publication: "This Morning may have not been hit by the cuts on the surface, but the show is going to look completely different when this all comes into effect next year. "The cost of production is on the rise and budgets are going to be significantly reduced when the shows launch in their new schedule slots. "As well as cuts behind the scenes, there will be big changes on camera, especially on This Morning, big production items like musical theatre performances or outside broadcasts, which is what the show is famous for, will be cut. "Gone are the days of flying talent like Alison Hammond to Los Angeles to interview Hollywood stars." They further added: "The general consensus among staff is that the shows are being put on life support and within time, Lorraine and Loose Women will be the first to be cancelled." This Morning is currently headed up by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. ITV Faces Major Shake-Up: Good Morning Britain Stars Under Threat Amid Cost Cuts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary host the show on Fridays and it is thought that the four of them are safe from any impending job cuts. ITV confirmed earlier this week that Loose Women and Lorraine would both face a major overhaul with the shows axing 22 weeks worth of episodes to take them down to a seasonal basis. It means both shows will air for just 30 weeks a year. Good Morning Britain will be extended on days when Lorraine is not on-air and will be working closer with the ITV News team under the ITN banner. GMB and Loose Women are both expected to see on-air talent cut with Lorraine stand-in hosts, Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh, already revealed to have lost their fill-in positions on the show as a result of the schedule changes. Adil Ray is expected to be let go from GMB whilst a THIRD of the Loose Women cast could lose their jobs as a result of the changes. Loose Women stars fearing 'singing for the supper' amid ITV 'time-bomb'
The Loose Women panellists are said to be in fear over their future on the show after ITV announced a major shake-up, which has been branded a 'time-bomb' by some Loose Women stars are said to have been left shaken following ITV's dramatic shake-up. Earlier this week, the network announced a major overhaul of their daytime schedules, which affects both Loose and Lorraine Kelly's self-titled morning programme. However, despite being hit with a mass loss of viewers, the magazine show This Morning remains unaffected. While all shows air throughout the year, the new schedule means that both Loose and Lorraine will only be on screens for 30 weeks of the year. Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain has been extended until 9.30, axing part of Lorraine's show. The shake-up will come into play in January, with many of the Loose panel now feeling as though they're on a probation period. Sources have claimed that anchors on the show, including Christine Lampard, Coleen Nolan and Gloria Hunniford had not been informed of the shake-up before it was made public. It's claimed that some of the older members of the panel who have been part of the show since its launch 25 years ago, are worried that they will be fighting for appearances on the panel, while "PR friendly" younger members of the team including GK Barry, Olivia Attwood and former singer Frankie Bridge will be favoured. ITV sources have criticised This Morning for being "favoured" despite its dwindling viewing figures. The tension behind the scenes at the network is believed to be "unbearable," with This Morning being hit with "rage." Sources claim that the shake-up has sparked a " time bomb," with executives allegedly doing everything to defuse the situation amongst talent. "ITV Daytime could combust from the inside out at this rate," a source said. They went to tell The Sun that older panellists on Loose Women have seen shake-ups in the past but "weathered" them. Now, this news has come out of nowhere, leaving them shaken. The older members of the panel are believed to think that the negative criticism surrounding the programme has been directed towards them with "out of touch" comments, whereas the new and younger panellists have a hype around them due to having different viewers than their older colleagues. Older members of the panel believe that the younger stars are "shiny teachers' pets," after top bosses have praised them for bringing in a younger audience. "It's now five months or so for them to prove their worth and sing for their supper," the source added. They went on to say: "The older panellists feel like until January they're on probation and pragmatic bosses will be scrutinising their every tweet, every rating and audience polling — everything like that." There is also believed to be tension around the pay from the show, with some on a staff PAYE contract, and some panellists working on a freelance basis. But while the take-home fee is different, every panellist is believed to be on around £3,000 per episode. The Mirror previously revealed that Loose Women had become embroiled in a pay row behind the scenes. Three big stars had told their bosses that they would walk out if the issues were not resolved. It came after the network was hit with a change by HMRC on tax legislation. ITV were made to decide whether a role was self-employed or employed for tax purposes from April 2021. Some stars had been told to take a PAYE contract, meaning that instead of paying corporation tax at 19 per cent, they would have had to pay 40 per cent on earnings between £50,271 and £150,000, plus National Insurance. A source behind the scenes told us: "They have all been self-employed for decades. Their accountants are saying no, they are self-employed… and are not going to go on PAYE." Our mole added: "They're so strict about it, and we're talking about the big players." ITV sources said the broadcaster had communicated the change to all those concerned across the channel and that assessments are done on a "case-by-case basis".

Inside ITV's Loose Women shock bloodbath leaving older stars fearing axe, ‘horrific tension' & fury at ‘lame duck' hosts
ITV's Daytime division is on the brink of civil war after this week's brutal cost-cutting announcement hammered Loose Women while leaving This Morning sitting pretty. We can reveal the Loose Women line-up had been left in the dark about the cuts to their lunchtime talk show, which will take effect from January. 7 Loose Women favourites, from left, Charlene White, Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Katie Piper Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 7 The Loose Women line-up had been left in the dark about the cuts to their lunchtime talk show Credit: Rex 7 Charlene White with Denise Welch on the ITV show Credit: Rex None of the 26-strong pool of hosts including big-hitters Coleen Nolan, Christine Lampard and Gloria Hunniford had been warned the show will be shrunk to screen 'seasonally', for 30 weeks of the year. The old guard — some of whom have been on board since day one 25 years ago — now fear they will be left scrambling for shifts while the PR-friendly younger panellists like Love Islander turned documentary-maker Olivia Attwood, influencer Grace 'GK' Barry and Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge clean up. Their anger is also with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard's This Morning, which has escaped the measures unscathed despite the show's troubled recent history. A source at ITV HQ said: 'The tension is unbearable. There's a lot of rage towards This Morning, which everyone feels is constantly favoured despite it being the lame duck of the daytime flock. 'The infighting is a feverish time-bomb which executives are desperate to defuse. 'ITV Daytime could combust from the inside out at this rate.' 'Fight for their places' The cuts to Loose Women, which were announced on Tuesday, mean it will be stripped of more than 100 episodes a year. The cast are now acutely aware this means there will be less work up for grabs, with a third expected to lose out on shifts, and The Sun has learned the old-timers reckon bosses will favour the youngsters. A source close to one of the Loose Women veterans said: 'A lot of the older panellists have lived through rumours of cuts and through the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 which hit ITV hard — and they weathered that. 'But this was completely unexpected and it came out of nowhere. Katie Price reignites bitter Loose Women feud seven years after panel exit, ranting 'I hated that show' 'They feel like often all the negative criticism is levelled at them — the odd 'out of touch' comment — whereas with the new panellists such as Liv and Grace there is a buzz around them because they have that different point of view. 'Execs have also proudly pro-claimed how the youngsters have brought with them a much-needed new audience — and now all of a sudden the older panellists feel like they are going to have to fight for their places against these shiny teachers' pets. 'It's now five months or so for them to prove their worth and sing for their supper.' An ITV source insisted Loose Women's older panellists are highly valued, and celebrated by the show's Over 60 and Over 70 specials, while the programme's new podcast would keep everyone busy. ITV has also said it will try to preserve 'the look' of each of their daytime shows and not touch talent — yet. It is thought that means Loose Women's four stalwart presenters, Christine, Kaye Adams, Charlene White and Ruth Langsford, are all safe. This was completely unexpected and it came out of nowhere A source But others are now nervously looking over their shoulder. Our source added: 'The older panellists feel like until January they're on probation and pragmatic bosses will be scrutinising their every tweet, every rating and audience polling — everything like that. 7 Lorraine Kelly's chat show is cut by half an hour Credit: Rex 7 Loose Women's Christine Lampard and Ruth Langsford are thought to be safe Credit: Rex 'The younger panellists can charge more for an Instagram post than they get for a Loose Women appearance but the older ladies really rely on the regular fees. "Some of the panel's agents have better relationships with the show's producers than others and that's another thing adding further tension.' There is also disparity around how the various Loose Women are paid, with some on PAYE and others on a freelance rate, although while the take-home differs, every star is thought to be on the same fee of £3,000 per episode. Their earnings pale, though, when compared with the salaries on This Morning of Cat, Ben, Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, who are thought to be raking in more than £500,000 a year. Yet it's not just the salaries of the glossy foursome on This Morning that are riling their Daytime counterparts at ITV. The schedule overhauls in the new year will also see the Good Morning Britain slot extended by 30 minutes while Lorraine Kelly's chat show is cut by half an hour. ITV Daytime could combust from the inside out at this rate A source A worker on the Lorraine show told The Sun: 'Everyone is absolutely furious that This Morning has got away with it yet again. Schofield claims 'There's a feeling that Loose Women and Lorraine are delivering resilient, solid ratings while This Morning is always in the Press for its tumbling viewing figures. Loose Women is even winning awards. 'Never mind the Phillip Schofield scandal and then Holly Willoughby leaving, This Morning is like the black sheep and yet that's the show that is not facing any cuts.' In its heyday, This Morning enjoyed ratings of 2.7million viewers but now it is lucky to scrape 500,000. Schofield departed This Morning in May 2023, following claims he had engaged in an extra-marital affair with a young male colleague who first joined the show as an intern. Holly quit five months later after a man was arrested — later to be jailed — for plotting to kidnap, rape and kill her. Meanwhile Loose Women won a prestigious Royal Television Society award this year and was nominated for a TV Bafta. But a source close to Lorraine Kelly suggested that for personal reasons she 'welcomed' the cut to her show, which previously ran for an hour. The beloved presenter, 65, will also now work across five days instead of taking Fridays off, and our source said: 'It was said she might decide to walk over the news but in fact the shorter run will give her more time with her family each day.' 'Lorraine's only concern is if the standard of the show drops through losing key members of the team — which I suppose is a concern across the board. 'But with the Loose Women now all forced to spend every shift effectively auditioning for their own role, it'll surely affect how bold, feisty and loose they're prepared to be.' Some 220 production staff will lose their jobs as part of the changes at ITV but boss Kevin Lygo has pledged the funds saved will support new drama and sport. 7 This Morning is not facing any cut despite the show's troubled recent history with the Phillip Schofield scandal and Holly Willoughby leaving Credit: Rex 7 This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary are thought to be raking in more than £500,000 a year Credit: Rex
