Inside Love Island star Sophie Lee's unusual life as former fire breather had horrific accident
Love Island season 12 cast has been announced with contestant Sophie Lee is hoping to find love this summer. Although the 29-year-old's life dramatically changed following a terrifying incident. Love Island is set to return to our screens in less than a week, with the starting 12 singletons finally being announced, fans are already getting excited. Taking part in this year's show is Sophie Lee, a 29-year-old from Manchester, who has an inspiring backstory and she's no stranger to being in-front of the camera - but not for what you think. Sophie is a former fire breather, who hopes to use her time in the villa to spread awareness about body positivity after experiencing a life-changing accident just 7 years ago. The former fire-performer, now turned author and motivational speaker, recently appeared on ITV Lorraine, speaking to Ranvir Singh. She appeared on the breakfast show to talk about body positivity and promote her first book. But why was she on Lorraine? Let's find out... When she was 23-years-old, Sophie was involved in a terrifying incident during one of her fire-breathing performances while in America, which saw her suffer from life-changing burns. The accident happened in 2018, when an air conditioning unit blew the flames back into her face when she was performing at an event in Chicago. The Islander spoke to The Sun about her horrifying incident, and the impact it had on her life. She said: "The air-con was too strong so when I blew the fire out it blew back to me. It set me on fire. I just remember being in so much pain, I blacked out for a little bit. It's crazy." 'It happened in front of everyone and I had to get on with it as professionally and quickly as I could. As soon as I got into the ambulance, I was in bits." "That was a scary, scary time. I couldn't breathe by myself, I couldn't eat, I couldn't really see, it was scary. I was pretty out of it but on day two I looked in the mirror and just cried," she revealed. She spent a month in intensive care while she was treated for the burns. She was all alone as she needed to have treatment in America, where the accident happened, and was placed on life support machines as she was struggling to breath and was in and out of consciousness throughout the first month. Once she recovered from her injuries, Sophie channelled all her energy into becoming an motivational speaker, speaking out for women across the country and spreading awareness about body positivity. Although soon after, she returned to hospital to undergo keloid surgery on her face for a tumour growth. Previously speaking about her surgery on Instagram, Sophie stated: "Although my tumour was benign and not cancerous, I had to endure stages of Chemo Injections as part of my treatment and I can first hand say that it was the hardest and most testing time of my life that I've ever experienced." She added: "I want to take this opportunity to wish all the families who have been affected by cancer my deepest love and prayers, I know how hard it is to remain hopeful during dark times of uncertainty. I'm grateful for all the support and love I have received from sharing my journey on this platform and I hope to continue to be a positive example that there is light at the end of the tunnel." Sophie wrote a book titled My Skin, which was released in April 2024, the book focuses on her story of discovery as she learns that 'beauty is more than skin deep in a society that so often tells us otherwise. The star is also friends with Katie Piper, after working with The Katie Piper Foundation raising awareness and money for fellow burn survivors. Singleton Sophie is hoping to find love in the Majorcan villa this summer, as Love Island returns to our screens Monday 9 June at 9pm on ITV.

Stacey Solomon gives 'sad' family update as she reveals 'new journey forever'
Stacey Solomon has shared her heartache over the health struggles of her beloved dog Teddy, who underwent a major change earlier this year. The Sort Your Life Out presenter had previously asked for prayers from her fans in April when she revealed that Teddy's health had taken a sudden turn for the worse. She had explained to her followers that she and her husband Joe Swash were informed that their family pet 'might not ever fully recover', after discovering he had a predisposed condition they "had no idea about". READ MORE - ITV Lorraine pulled off air as Ranvir Singh makes sweet announcement READ MORE - Man who 'died and went to hell' says what he saw was worse than can be imagined Stacey detailed the incident, explaining that Teddy suddenly lost the use of his back legs. Vets later confirmed that he'd suffered a burst disc and his spine was "really worn" due to a predisposed condition. After disclosing that Teddy had undergone surgery, Stacey expressed: "We are praying and hoping so hard that he pulls through and that we can care for him in the best way we possibly can to give him the best life he can have.", reports the Manchester Evening News. "We are all truly devastated. He is the sweetest, most protective, loving dog. He's our family. And far too young to be going through this. We love you Ted. So so much. Pickle Cottage is far too quiet without you. I miss my toilet buddy. Peanut is so sad without his best friend.." In the weeks following Teddy's operation, Stacey shared that she was performing daily physiotherapy with him and having to express his bladder throughout the day, as he remained on medication and crate rest. Towards the end of last month, Stacey revealed she was taking Teddy for a check-up, admitting his future remained "uncertain", but had yet to update her followers on the results. On Tuesday (June 3), Stacey updated her millions of followers on Teddy's condition, describing the news as bittersweet. Sharing a photo of the adorable dog lying next to her, she said: "Teddy update, so many of you asking. After his vet appointment, it looks likely that Teddy will never get the feeling back in his legs and will need our help with urinating and assisted walks and physio forever. "But the good news is... the vet was so pleased with how happy Teddy was and how well we are doing his physio and managing his bladder. So me and Joe were really happy with that and felt extremely proud." The mother-of-five added: "I feel sad for Teddy but I'm also confident that me and Joe can give him the happiest life and all the love he deserves. So this new journey is forever. "But we love Teddy so much we will just keep going and do our best to find new ways to keep him healthy and happy for as long as we can [face holding back tears emoji]." This follows the release of Stacey and Joe's BBC One reality series, which gave viewers a glimpse into their family life at Pickle Cottage. The show, 'Stacey And Joe', featured the couple, their children, and pets – including their two dogs, Teddy and Peanut, as well as a number of ducks.

Lorraine Kelly odds to quit ITV show amid episode axe and next career move revealed
Speculation is mounting the beloved presenter could walk away from fronting ITV's Lorraine altogether. ITV bosses are reportedly appearing to be on the edge of giving Lorraine Kelly's flagship programme the chop after it was confirmed on Tuesday that ITV Lorraine will be sashed from being on 52 weeks of the year to just 30. The running time will be cut to only 30 minutes, instead of the hour. Glasgow-born Lorraine, 65, has fronted her show on the platform since 2010 and been a firm TV favourite for over 40 years. However her crown as the queen of the small screen could reportedly be slipping, with her increasingly absent from being in the presenter's chair. The TV mainstay is reported to have presented less than 60 per cent of editions of Lorraine in the past 18 months, with co-stars like Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh forced to step into the presenters chair in her absence. Now, according to new odds from online bookmaker Betway, the BAFTA award-winner who was last year praised for her outstanding contribution to the small screen, is just 2/1 to walk away from her daytime show for good. Meanwhile, a move to the BBC to host The One Show is now priced at 6/1 for Lorraine, who has been in the TV industry since the 1980s. Alternatively, she is 3/1 to swap the screen for the airwaves, and front her own radio show. "Lorraine Kelly has been a cornerstone of ITV's daytime schedule for nearly 40 years," said Mike Reading, spokesperson at Betway. "But recent years have seen increasing speculation over the number of guest hosts stepping in for her. "With the latest round of ITV cuts scaling back her flagship show, this could be the tipping point that sees her decide to step away for good." So, what could the Scot's next career move be if she actually does bite the bullet and leave Lorraine? Betway's odds have put the mum-of-one at 3/1 to host her own radio show, 6/1 to move to the BBC and host The One Show, and 6/1 to undertake other journalism work, as she does boast an illustrious career as a news correspondent, having covered major events like the Lockerbie bombing and the Piper Alpha disaster. Elsewhere, Lorraine is 10/1 to front Good Morning Britain. And she is placed at the same odds (10/1) to become a contestant on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! If the ballroom is more her scene, Lorraine is 20/1 to star in Strictly Come Dancing. She is also 25/1 to host her own Netflix magazine show and 25/1 also to even join an ITV soap opera. "She could return to her roots, and front Good Morning Britain, which has been unchanged in the ITV revisions, and shares a namesake with where she began her daytime TV career in Scotland," Mike went on to reason. "Lorraine was also instrumental in the launch of GMTV, the precursor to today's GMB, making it a fitting potential home for her next chapter." The betting man concluded by asking: "Lorraine has previously ruled out joining reality series like Celebrity Traitors UK due to her packed schedule, but if she does decide to leave could she be tempted to try something new?"

ITV Lorraine show could be saved from cuts under strict condition but one star is refusing
ITV have announced huge changes to the daytime schedule which is seeing Lorraine's air time being halved and Good Morning Britain's being extended. ITV Lorraine's could be saved amid a huge scheduling shake-up on ITV but one star is reportedly refusing to compromise. It was announced yesterday that the ITV daytime run will be looking very different in a few months time with huge changes coming to programmes including Good Morning Britain. The ITV early news and magazine shows currently run from 6am to 1:30pm weekdays and include the breakfast show followed by Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women. However, from January 2026 onwards, GMB will be extended by 30 minutes to run from 6am to 9:30am daily. This change has seen Lorraine Kelly's show being cut in half, with it now set to run for 30 minutes, from 9:30am until 10am, and it will only air for 30 weeks of the year. During the weeks that Lorraine is not on air, GMB will run from 6am to 10am instead. This Morning will remain in its 10am-12.30pm slot on weekdays throughout the year, while Loose Women will be in the 12.30-1.30pm slot for a seasonal basis of 30 weeks too, the Mirror reports. Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, explained of the huge changes: "Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres. "These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever. I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off screen in our Daytime production teams." He added: "We will work with ITV Studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition. "Daytime has been a core element of ITV's schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade." However, it's now been reported that Lorraine's hour long TV slot could be saved but the presenter is reportedly having none of it. Speaking to Mail Online, a TV insider said: "Susanna is the favoured one. The bosses are besotted with her and they wanted to give her more and more. At the same time it was increasingly obvious that Lorraine wasn't there. "She had a show named for her which has been going for 15 years but it actually became more hassle than it was worth to keep having to sort out cover for her. "Thankfully Christine and Ranvir love doing it and would often be available at short notice. In fact, if Christine would ever take on the role full-time then maybe it would save the slot but she just doesn't want to. "So we are left with a situation which in the end wasn't a great look for Lorraine. She's the grande dame of ITV, or perhaps she thought she was. "She used to rule that show with an iron fist and what she said went, but recently she hasn't been there." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The extended Good Morning Britain show will see a mix of news, interviews, debate and competitions including more regional news and investigations as well as more analysis of the biggest stories of the day. GMB will be made by a special team within ITV News at ITN whilst Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will continue to be produced by ITV Studios. The programme is set to be broadcast from a new location in central London. ITV Studios is now working with its daytime teams that will see the three shows produced by one team sharing resources and operations.
