From beginning to end, SB19 delivers a concert masterclass
The first day of SB19's Simula at Wakas world tour kickoff at the Philippine Arena will go down in history as one of the best Filipino concerts of all time. There's a reason Pablo, Ken, Stell, Josh, and Justin – the quintet also fondly called Mahalima – sold out the world's largest indoor arena in just seven hours: they are, without a doubt, world-class talents who belong in the biggest stage the world has to offer. The group had to add a second day to the show to fulfill the demand of A'TIN, the name of their fans, as well as casual concertgoers curious to see what the hype is all about. And it is absolutely justified. Day 2 is not about making more money or proving something – by the end of the first show, you will want to see more and hear more. Two hours is not enough to experience the artistry of SB19. The P-pop kings wear their crown well – with pride and with responsibility as trailblazers for those who will come after them. From the well-organized queueing at the venue, to the theater-like stage design, to the remote-controlled LED wristbands and light sticks, to the lyrics on screen, to the energy they brought to the stage – they delivered a concert masterclass that rivals the biggest international acts. No wonder A'TIN shows up for them every single time. Their fans show the power of community to organize for something they are passionate about. Several fan projects and initiatives were launched in Bulacan – aside from the usual exchange of freebies, buses were rented, motorcycles convoyed, the inside of the Philippine Arena turned into the Filipino flag, the stands were cleaned after the show. And a plane bearing the message 'The world is yours, SB19' flew over the Bocaue sky. If you're Team Bahay and unable to attend the show, or you're Team Abroad waiting for your turn to watch SB19 in the coming months, here are seven iconic moments from Day 1 of the Simula at Wakas kickoff on Saturday. 1. Opening with the bangers SB19 knows how to open a concert with a bang. The group and their dancers, W3, entered the stage wearing cloaks as 'DAM' blared from the speakers, creating tension and an explosion of energy at the same time. When SB19 finally shed their cloaks, they were dressed in DAM-inspired costumes, looking like they stepped right off a fantasy set. They brought the house down right away with a medley of their hard-hitting songs: 'What,' 'Mana,' and 'Gento.' 2. The art of seduction After the bangers, SB19 made the audience swoon with new arrangements of 'Moonlight' and 'I Want You,' their seductive songs. 'Moonlight,' their 2024 collaboration single with Ian Asher and Terry Zhong, was stripped of its original quirky dance and turned into a slower, sensual song to match its lyrics. Meanwhile, 'I Want You' is already known as their most sultry track yet, but they somehow made it even sexier than before. Previously, they leaned on the choreography to elicit those screams from their fans, but this time, they mainly used their voices to make their fans lose their minds. 3. Looking cute while singing diss tracks SB19 changed costumes several times during the show, and one of their most fun outfits was a pink-and-black ensemble that they wore while singing their diss tracks: 'Dungka' and 'Bazinga.' Josh and Ken stood out in particular: Josh wore a fitted pink shirt and had a plushie backpack, while Ken's pink feather jacket screamed fashion. Haters gonna hate, but SB19 still cute at the end of the day. 4. The surprise line switch Sadly, SB19 did not perform 'Kalakal,' their collaboration single with legendary rapper Gloc-9, during the concert. But fans still got to hear vocalists Justin and Stell drop bars via a jaw-dropping line switch in 'Bazinga.' Justin performed Josh's rap verse, while Stell performed Pablo's. Pablo, Josh, and Ken also took their lines. 'Bazinga' is already one of SB19's best hype songs, and the line switch took it to new heights. That couldn't have been easy to do, but SB19 made it look easy as a breeze. 5. Josh triggering the water works After all the surprises, SB19 changed the atmosphere with a medley of their ballads. They invited the audience to open their flashlights before performing 'Nyebe,' then followed it up with 'Time' and 'Quit,' songs from their 'Simula at Wakas' EP. Josh then prefaced 'Mapa' with an emotional announcement: his father, whom he has not met for most of his life, was watching him perform for the first time. He made everyone shed tears of joy and relief for him, and he sang his lines with raw emotion and vulnerability. 6. Going up, for real SB19 did not sing 'Go Up,' the song that began their ascent into the throne of P-pop, but they literally went up in the air during the concert. The boys went on top of a round platform that was eventually raised high, so the fans from the upper seats can see them a little better. They sang 'Freedom' while they were 'flying,' before going back down on the ground to thank their fans with a touching rendition of their song 'SLMT.' They extended the song with the heartfelt line 'Ako'y nagpapasalamat' from each of them, with Pablo ending it with 'Kami'y nagpapasalamat' for a ballad-like closing of the usually upbeat track. 7. Ending with the beginning True to the name of their EP, SB19 ended the show the way it began: with 'DAM.' They changed back to their costumes at the start of the concert and performed the 'Simula at Wakas' lead single to close the concert with a parting bang. The iconic DAM tree also showed up on stage, with a lone figure wrapped in cloak approaching it as the credits rolled. And at the end of the credits, SB19 proudly wrote: '2025. Made in the Philippines.' —CDC, GMA Integrated News

Techno's rising star AKKI reveals top music picks ahead of his debut release
ONE of techno's fastest-rising stars, AKKI has been tearing up global dance floors with his blend of raw, emotive melodies and thunderous basslines. Hailing from Munich, he's already clocked millions of streams, dropping tracks on leading labels such as Terminal M, 1605, Filth On Acid and Alaula and he's earned heavyweight support from techno queens. The single, Lost In Time is a peak-time weapon that's already caused serious damage at Lens and de Witte's huge B2B at Flanders Expo in Belgium in February and it's out now. To mark the occasion, AKKI has curated a killer playlist packed with the tracks that inspire his sound and light up his DJ sets. Strap in for a journey across the cutting edge of techno and beyond. Alignment - Let The Music Leave Your Soul This track is a real journey! It's the perfect combination of trance and hard techno. Alignment is by far my favorite producer at the moment and I love his balance between emotions and hard drops. DJ Isaac - I Want You This track is more of a hardstyle track, but I think it also fits perfectly in a harder techno set nowadays and I always love playing it and seeing the reactions to it. Joey Risdon - Acid Kicks In This track is rather minimalistic, but it's always a highlight in my sets because of its insane groove and tension building build-up. Joey is a great producer who knows how to keep the listener engaged even though he doesn't use that many elements - this is very impressive. Luciid - Era of Us Luciid has created a unique melody on this track and combined with the warm and driving bassline, it's a track that gives you a happy feeling but also a lot of energy that makes you want to dance. Alignment - When The Bass Is Too Loud Again we have Alignment and although the track isn't that old yet, I think it's already a cult track. With the crazy melodies and storytelling, it's like watching a movie that takes you on a journey. Sailo – Nobody This track is more of a bouncy track and the simple melody gets stuck in your head. Even when you hear it for the first time, you feel like you've known the track for a long time. It's great to be on the same EXHALE VA with artists like this. Alex Farrell - Move Your Body Alex is also one of my favorite producers at the moment. I love his style and production skills and he knows exactly how to build tension in his tracks that leads to massive drops. Although he's a very young producer, he's already shown the world his skills and I think he's going to become one of the big names in the scene. Junkie Kid - Outside Remix This track is very special because it's not your typical techno track. It's a combination of a radio song with hard techno and a heartwarming melody in the main break that leads to a huge drop. Always nice to play this song! Maddix - Open Sesame I've been playing this track for a long time and it's always great to see how people react to it. I play it in all my sets and I'm a big fan of Maddix and the big hit he had with this track. Onlynumbers - Euphoric Night This is usually my closing track because it gives you so much energy and pushes you even more at the end. But it also has that iconic melody and the beautiful piano part at the end. In my opinion, it's the perfect track to end your set.

Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes suffered ‘terrible accident' two months after mother's death
Savage Garden lead singer Darren Hayes is recovering from a serious injury, shortly after suffering the loss of his mother. The Truly Madly Deeply singer shared a photo of his swollen jaw and X-ray imagery on Instagram, explaining he had 'a terrible accident.' Hayes wrote in the caption that on March 17, exactly two months after his mother died, he 'lost consciousness – I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed 3 times, losing consciousness each time.' 'The blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half. I woke up in a pool of blood, terrible pain in my left side of my head and with 9 teeth shattered.' The 52-year-old said he was 'so lucky' and thanked the medical team at St. John's Providence in Santa Monica. 'I could have died if I landed in a different position. They scanned for and ruled out heart issues and anything neurological.' Hayes underwent emergency reconstructive surgery and had a titanium brace inserted into his jaw followed by his mouth wired shut for eight weeks. The Australian-born singer said he had experienced some light-headedness and fainting spells before the incident, and the cause is being investigated by his medical care team. 'So far my heart is normal, my arteries are normal and I don't have a brain tumour or anything that could cause the accident,' he said, adding, 'No Judgement to those who partake but I do not take drugs or drink alcohol – this was a complete shock.' Hayes is one half of pop rock duo Savage Garden, with Daniel Jones on guitar and keyboards, known for late '90s hits like I Want You, Truly Madly Deeply and I Knew I Loved You. Savage Garden split in 2001, per Billboard, but Hayes continued his solo career. He thanked fans for understanding the reasons why he'll 'be out of action for quite some time.' 'After my jaw heals it's a long road to rehabbing my jaw function and then of course replacing my shattered teeth. I love you folks. I'm so grateful to be alive and every day I'm getting stronger.' Hayes revealed near the end of his post that not only had his mother recently died, but he also learned his father had died and he had just gone through a 'brutal divorce' from his husband of 17 years, Richard Cullen. According to People magazine, Hayes filed for divorce in 2023. 'I have had moments of deep sadness. But I am a survivor and I'll come back strong.' He also thanked everyone for their support, adding that he decided to share the news on social media because he had to cancel 'press and public things planned and I didn't want people to speculate.' 'I'm sure I'm gonna be fine – it's just time. Love you,' he added.
