Glasgow artist nominated for prestigious drawing prize

His work 'I want to Break Free' will go on show in the RBSA Drawing Prize Exhibition at RBSA Gallery in Birmingham B3 1SA from Friday to June 28. The entries came from artists working in all styles and media; the only restriction being that the technique used must be drawing. Mr To, whose work is admired by Patrick Stewart, is known for using gunpowder to create his pieces. I Want to Break Free by Frank To (Image: Frank To) He is believed to be the only Scottish artist nominated for the prize this year. Commenting on being short-listed for the prize, To said: 'It is a honour to be shortlisted in this national royal drawing art prize. The piece that got shortlisted into the RBSA Art Drawing Prize is a Bernese Mountain dog running. I think this piece is a testimonial of me pushing my limits in my drawing skills. 'Also to be short-listed perhaps as the only Scottish artist for the prize is humbling. "For me, it's a way to show both nationally and internationally how Scottish contemporary drawing is still well regarded. I want to contribute to this in any way possible as one of the most prolific leading draughtsmen in Scotland." Born in Falkirk in 1982, Mr To graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a degree in fine art before getting his Masters at Jordanstone Art College in Dundee. In addition to his nomination for the RBSA prize, his work has been accepted to the prestigious Royal Ulster Academy exhibition at the Ulster Museum in Belfast and the famous Royal West England Academy Annual open exhibition at the RWA in Bristol.

Rita Ora shocked by husband Taika Waititi's surprise appearance on Masked Singer

'As good as I am, this detective-ing thing is only a hobby. I spend most of my time on massive movie sets. Yes, even bigger than The Hangover. There's not an Oscar I don't know." The character then performed a choreographed dance to Queen's I Want to Break Free, promoting Ora to exclaim, 'I need to know who this is, it's completely killing me!' As Lucky Duck removed his mascot headpiece, Cannon introduced the man behind mask as 'Oscar award-winning filmmaker, actor, comedian, and husband of Rita Ora... Taika Waititi '. Seeing her husband revealed, Ora broke into a wide smile and laughed 'Are you kidding me? I hate you!' Running to greet her husband on stage the pop star judge joked that in her opinion 'I thought you were the most annoying thing on this whole show!' Ora then embraced Waititi in a hug and relented 'That is so cool, I love you so much'. The judge told her husband that the appearance was 'kind of your dream come true'. 'You've always wanted to be a popstar.' Speaking to Cannon, Waititi joked the main reason he wanted to do the show was 'Because it was the only way I was going to see my wife, 'You guys got her working so hard, I never see her!' Waititi added that keeping his involvement in the show from Ora was 'easy'. 'How I kept this secret? She's always here.' Ora suggested that Waititi's fatherhood was another potential motivation behind the New Zealander's involvement. 'Also, his kids love the show so much, so this is awesome.'

Coral or Boogie Woogie were left on tenterhooks as they waited to see which one wouldn't make it to the final - but they were joined by a new character, Lucky Duck - Rita's husband Taika Waititi. "I've been breaking into this competition all season long and I've decided to dust off this old lucky bell," Lucky Duck announced. "Because tonight, both of safe! You are both going to the finale. Getting into the competition, Lucky Duck shared a few clues about himself, but the judges were left flabbergasted, reports the Mirror. "I've been bringing luck since the beginning, and during my time here, I've left no stone unturned. But one mystery still remains: Who am I?". The 'Anywhere' singer rushed to embrace her husband on stage, as he humorously suggested that appearing on the show was the only way he could spend time with her. Taika and Rita secretly tied the knot in LA in 2022. The wedding was planned in just two weeks after Rita proposed to the father of two during a holiday in Palm Springs. Discussing their special day, the couple shared that they kept the guest list small. "There were about eight people there-just close friends and family, and parents on Zoom," Hollywood director Taika told Vogue magazine. He continued: "My daughters were there, and they made everything really fun and easy: I think just because we didn't have the pressure of having caterers and all of these things, you know, people turning up late, and all of the different moving parts. "I felt really peaceful actually, it was almost like another day. We just all dressed up and got married," Rita added.

She added: I was groggy all the time [during her twenties]. I wanted to feel awake and that my brain was switched on. Rita continued: 'What makes me go 'urgh' is when people pour so much responsibility into somebody else to make themselves feel how they want to feel. 'That's a disaster, a car crash. You'll always be unsatisfied, I was that person.'
