Kelly Clarkson's mother-daughter duet dazzles fans at Las Vegas residency
Kelly Clarkson is doing Vegas her own way. The talk show host and pop sensation, who is midway through a highly anticipated residency on the strip, invited her daughter on stage during a recent performance for a rendition of "Heartbeat Song," a high-octane crowd pleaser off Clarkson's seventh studio album. "Last night we had a very special guest, my daughter River Rose, joined us for Heartbeat Song. It's her favorite song!" Clarkson wrote on Instagram following the July 18 show. The post featured a photo of the pair touching foreheads on stage mid-song as a packed crowd looked on and captured videos. Kelly Clarkson setlist: All the hit songs powering her Las Vegas residency River Rose, 11, is one of two children Clarkson shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, along with son Remington "Remy" Alexander, 9. Clarkson, who recently returned to her NBC talk show after a prolonged absence, is enjoying early success in her Studio Sessions residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. An institution in Sin City, the Colosseum is getting the Clarkson treatment as she plays songs from her newest album and hits from her early days of pop stardom. Kelly Clarkson returns to talk show after unexplained absence "Heartbeat Song," off her sentimental 2015 album "Piece by Piece," took on new meaning with River Rose as backup. In a fan video posted to YouTube, the mother-daughter pair, in matching graphic tees and bell-bottom pants, can be heard harmonizing. River Rose, more timid at the beginning, follows Clarkson's lead and eventually joins in for a more boisterous performance. After the song wrapped, Clarkson treated her daughter to a big hug and kiss on the cheek as the crowd applauded and River Rose disappeared into the wings. Clarkson will continue to perform at the 4,100-capacity theater for shows scattered through July, August and November. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster. The "American Idol" alum said she would bring "the studio to the stage" when she announced the slate of shows and has delivered 10-fold with her trademark blend of down-to-Earth humor and out-of-this-world vocals, all while joking and jamming with her outstanding band that included dual drums, several guitars, horns and strings. Fans of Clarkson's talk show will be treated to a rotating "Kellyoke" cover on the setlist. On opening weekend, she sang "I Will Always Love You" as sung by Whitney Houston and written by Dolly Parton, and Maneskin's cover of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons' "Beggin'." Christine Allado takes on Whitney Houston's role in PH staging of ‘The Bodyguard: The Musical'
Manila is about to witness a dazzling homecoming. Christine Allado, the internationally acclaimed Filipina performer who made her mark in London's West End and global concert halls, is set to return to the Philippine stage as Rachel Marron in 9 Works Theatrical's staging of 'The Bodyguard: The Musical'—a bold, music-packed reimagining of the 1992 film of the same name that catapulted Whitney Houston into cinematic legend. Set to the timeless hits 'I Will Always Love You,' 'I Have Nothing,' and 'Run to You,' The Bodyguard: The Musical' tells the gripping story of a superstar under threat and the unlikely romance that unfolds between her and her bodyguard. The production is set to open on September 26 at The Proscenium Theater in Rockwell Center, Makati City. It marks the first-ever theatrical venture of the property group, signaling its entry into the world of performing arts. Allado has long carried the Filipino flag across world stages, having played Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in 'Hamilton's' original West End cast to headlining 'In The Heights' and 'The Prince of Egypt,' which earned her a nomination at the Grammy Awards. Now, she will bring the same world-class presence home, ready to channel the strength, vulnerability, and vocal firepower that the role of Rachel Marron demands. 'It's a full-circle moment. To bring this kind of production to Manila and portray a role made iconic by Whitney Houston, in front of my kababayans, is deeply meaningful," she said. No stranger to the Philippines, Allado, the daughter of lawyer Jojo Allado and Letty Guevara, was born and raised in Manila. She had studied theater at the University of the Philippines and undergone workshops with Trumpets Playshop where she acted in 'Hairspray,' 'Phantom of the Opera,' and the longest running Filipino musical, 'Joseph The Dreamer,' Like many actors looking for greener pastures, she moved to Hong Kong to work at Hong Kong Disneyland, then migrated to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where she earned her Masters in musical theater in 2013. Allado has since performed in sold-out concerts with Andrea Bocelli across Europe and Asia, to co-starring with Lea Salonga and Bernadette Peters in the West End run of 'Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends,' among many others. She currently stars as Meat in West End's production of 'We Will Rock You.' This year, she's also set to lead the West End premiere of 'Jo: Little Women The Musical.' On Instagram Friday, 9 Works Theatrical posted a video of Allado singing 'I Will Always Love You,' one of Houston's signature songs used in the film and the musical. However, as early as February, Allado had posted on Instagram a video of her singing 'I Have Nothing,' in what she dubbed a rehearsal for a concert in Mexico. The song is among Houston's top hits that was also used in the film and musical. A long time coming In an interview with GMA News Online, 'The Bodyguard: The Musical' director Robbie Guevara shared they got the rights for the musical as early as 2019 for 9 Works Theatrical's 2020 season. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, put everything on hold. Santi Santamaria, managing director and executive producer of 9 Works Theatrical, added, '[It's] a long time coming, this show.' In the past, 9 Works Theatrical has staged other award-winning musicals, including "Grease," "La Cage aux Folles," and "Tick, Tick... Boom!." In 2024, the company staged "Rent," and "Once on This Island," followed by "Liwanag sa Dilim" earlier this year. According to Guevara, he first saw "The Bodyguard" musical in one of its West End runs after it premiered at Adelphi Theater in London in December 2012, while he saw the film version in a movie house in 1992. He added that his favorite song from the film and musical is Houston's 'I Have Nothing.' 'I love all of Whitney's popular songs, so I enjoyed it. I wasn't a huge fan, but I didn't dislike [the film] naman,' he shared. He also mentioned there are no more auditions for the musical's other roles, 'All done na.' As for the actor who would play Frank Farmer in the local production (Kevin Costner played him in the film), Guevara remained tight-lipped, noting that it will be revealed soon. Aside from Guevara, 'The Bodyguard: The Musical' creative team is composed of Arnold Trinidad as choreographer, Mio Infante as scenographer, Daniel Bartolome as musical director, and Shakira Villa-Symes as lighting designer. 'The usual team,' he said, whose recent directorial job was the original Filipino musical 'Liwanag Sa Dilim.' For now, theater fans can look forward to seeing Allado in the landmark musical featuring Houston's other hits like 'One Moment In Time,' 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody,' 'I'm Every Woman,' 'Run to You,' 'How Will I Know,' 'Queen of the Night,' 'Saving All My Love for You,' and 'Greatest Love of All.' With tickets now available at theater fans and music lovers alike have the rare chance to witness a global star shine on home soil in a show packed with drama, danger, and unforgettable music. —CDC, GMA Integrated News

'I partied at Drake's three-day Wireless set - this moment was unmissable'
For its 20th anniversary, Wireless Festival made a bold choice in inviting Drake to headline all three days of the prestigious event. Despite receiving backlash for the never-before-done move, Drake didn't disappoint and brought out an all-star cast of surprise guests that had the crowd jumping and singing their hearts out the whole weekend. This year, each day had a different theme: Friday (old-school R&B), Saturday (UK rap), and Sunday (Afrobeats). I attended both Friday and Saturday, and I had the best time ever. On both days, I was in crowds of up to 50,000 attendees each day. According to Capital XTRA, there was a confirmed total of 150,000 people over three days. Knowing that the event would attract a huge crowd, my friend and I stayed at the back, and there was enough space for us to dance and see the stage, which quickly came to life with Drake's special guests. Friday was my favourite day, and Drake knew how to start his three-day run with a bang. Not only was the crowd all hyped up by Summer Walker and PARTYNEXTDOOR, but Drake also brought Bobby V, Mario, Giveon, Bryson Tiller, Lauren Hill, and even Kehlani made a small appearance during Kwn's set. So many iconic artists in one night. I wasn't expecting Mario and Bryson Tiller, two of my favourite artists, to come out and perform their biggest hits. It was the cherry on top, and one of the best moments of Wireless. Saturday was a celebration for rap fans. The flyer simply teased 'The Mandem' without any explanation, which left fans wondering if it was even worth it to buy tickets. Let me tell you, it had the biggest crowd of the weekend. Big names like Central Cee, Dave, J Hus, Skepta, Headie One, K-Trap, as well as some US rappers: Yeat, Sexyy Red, Latto, and 21 Savage. But what shocked me the most was a complete change of pace thanks to Vanessa Carlton's live-performance of 'A Thousand Miles' to wrap up the night - a moment no one saw coming. From the headliner himself, I loved how Drake blended old and new songs from his albums, changing up the setlist each day. To show his love for the UK, he flew - literally - around Finsbury Park as Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You' as fireworks lit up the sky. Drake kept saying that the UK was his 'real home', also claiming UK rappers are better than the ones from the States. The rapper even took a shot from his cup when fans started screaming 'F*** Kendrick', as per his decade-long feud with rapper Kendrick Lamar. Over the years, Wireless Festival has received some negative reviews, especially concerning aspects such as organisation, last-minute cancellations, accessibility and value for money, which made me hesitant. For example, in 2024, four acts - including Tyla and Digga - suddenly dropped out. Also, Sunday's set had an early closure due to the Euros final between England and Spain. However, this year was a year of improvements. Wireless Festival 2025 came well-prepared. They had water stations, cooling areas, medical assistance regular updates through their app, and a lot of security. Famous brands, like Liquid IV, one of their sponsors, had a tent where festival-goers could visit and hydrate themselves with their latest electrolyte products. To help me with the scorching heatwave temperatures, I drank Liquid IV's newest electrolyte mix - and it was a lifesaver. Not only did it keep me well hydrated and energised throughout the day, but it also gave me a good night sleep, waking up refreshed the next day. My experience at Wireless Festival, as a first-time attendee, was quite positive. The experience was well worth it, thanks to the number of surprise guests. My friend and I sang our hearts out to each song, and woke up the next day with a raspy voice. In short: good music and good vibes all around. Was it worth it? Definitely. Would I go again? Maybe not during a 30 degree heatwave, but if the temperatures are cooler than yes - most likely.
