The $11 secret to keeping scaredy-dogs calm during spring and summer storms
As much as my pup loves spring and summer for obvious reasons — namely, running around in the grass and soaking up the sun — she also can't stand thunderstorms (and don't get me started on fireworks). Loud noises scare her, and a crack of thunder sends her running under my bed in panic, or worse, shaking under the nearest table she can find. While I've tried endless kinds of calming treats with varying degrees of success, there's one that my pup and I love, and it's affordable: Pet Naturals of Vermont Calming Dog Chews, $11 at Amazon. Related: The best Amazon Pet Day deals on Purina, Iams, Frontline and more furry faves Now, they're no replacement for basic pet parent common sense during storms: I still make sure to close all windows and draw the curtains, keeping Chloe safely inside with her favorite plushies and blankets, either watching a TV show or listening to tail-wagging songs. These treats act as an additional barrier between her and the loud, scary noises I know she'll hear, and they seriously do help. The chews use a Colostrum Calming Complex Biopepide Blend, L-Theanine and Vitamin B to soothe Chloe without making her sleepy or drowsy. They're sedative-free and won't tire her out; they last for four to six hours and start working up to 20 minutes after she ingests them. They also seem to taste delicious, as she runs straight to me when she sees me opening up the packet. Tazewell County Animal Control low on supplies, seeks donations
TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. (WMBD) — The Tazewell County Animal Control is asking the public for additional supplies ahead of an expected increase in animals coming to its shelter in the spring. With the increase in the number of mouths to feed, they have an increased need for food and litter, a Facebook post from the Tazewell County Animal Control stated. 'Right now we're low on DRY dog and DRY puppy food. As well as clumping cat litter for our lobby cats!,' The Facebook post states. Tazewell County animal shelter at capacity Those interested in donating food can ship it directly to 21314 IL Rt 9. Tremont, IL. 61568. They said dogs in the shelter prefer Purina Brand dry dog food, but they also use Iams and Blue Buffalo. There are also lists of things that can be ordered on their Chewy and Amazon Wishlists.
