Four simple ways to save money at Asda Ian McEvans, vice president of commercial food at Asda, said: 'This significant investment alongside allows us to bring a new look and feel, as well making improvements to the service and a refresh of the menu." It comes after some other changes at Asda, including the retailer ditching Star Products on its loyalty scheme at the start of the year. Advertisement However, the move to axe the feature came as the supermarket brought back its Rollback price commitment at the end of January. Asda introduced the price cuts at its more than 1,200 stores meaning lower prices on 4,000 products. Then in March, prices were lowered on 10,000 products by up to 45% as the retailer looked to steal its rivals' customers. New Asda boss Allan Leighton insisted the supermarket's turnaround was on last month, despite the supermarket's sales falling 3.1% in the four months to the end of April. Advertisement How to save at Asda Shop the budget range Savvy shopper Eilish Stout-Cairns recommends that shoppers grab items from Asda's Just Essentials range. She said: "Asda's budget range is easy to spot as it's bright yellow! Keep your eyes peeled for yellow and you'll find their Just Essentials range. "It's great value and I've found it has a much wider selection of budget items compared to other supermarkets. Sign up to Asda Rewards The savvy-saver also presses on the importance of signing up to Asda's reward scheme. She said: "Asda Rewards is free to join and if you shop at Asda you should absolutely sign up. "As an Asda Rewards member, you'll get exclusive discounts and offers, and you'll also be able to earn 10% cashback on Star Products. "This will go straight into your cashpot, and once you've earned at least £1, you can transfer the money in your cashpot into ASDA vouchers. We've previously rounded up the best supermarket loyalty schemes - including the ones that will save you the most money. Look out for booze deals Eilish always suggests that shoppers looking to buy booze look out for bargain deals. She said: "Asda often has an alcohol offer on: buy six bottles and save 25%. "The offer includes selected bottles with red, white and rose options, as well as prosecco. There are usually lots of popular bottles included, for example, Oyster Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot, Oyster Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot and Freixenet Prosecco D.O.C. "Obviously, the more expensive the bottles you choose, the more you save." Join Facebook groups The savvy saver also recommends that fans of Asda join Facebook groups to keep in the know about the latest bargains in-store. Eilish said: "I recommend joining the Latest Deals Facebook Group to find out about the latest deals and new launches in store. "Every day, more than 250,000 deal hunters share their latest bargain finds and new releases. "For example, recently a member shared a picture of Asda's new Barbie range spotted in store. "Another member shared the bargain outdoor plants she picked up, including roses for 47p, blackcurrant bushes for 14p and topiary trees for 14p." Mr Leighton urged Sun readers to come back to see the UK's third largest grocery chain's revitalised stores. In May last year, Asda said it would invest majorly overhaul 170 stores as part of a £50million makeover. SUPERMARKETS SHAKING UP IN-STORE CAFES The latest announcement from Asda on its in-store cafe upgrades comes as two other major supermarkets row back on their cafe offerings. Sainsbury's shut 61 in-store cafes in April as it looks to explore "future opportunities" for the spaces. Advertisement The retailer said it was closing its remaining in-store cafes due to lower footfall and as its hybrid cafe and food halls become more popular. It is likely to replace the cafes with restaurants run by franchises, such as Starbucks and Gourmet Burger Kitchen. In March, Morrisons said it would shut 52 cafes as part of a huge overhaul of its store estate. The retailer also said 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies would shut. Advertisement Do you have a money problem that needs sorting? Asda announces major change to 180 cafes starting this month

The upgrades in Asda cafes will include digital ordering screens and table ordering service, alongside a new menu which will include pizza options and other items Asda has announced plans to refurbish 180 of its in-store cafes as part of a £180million investment. The upgrades will include digital ordering screens and table ordering service, which will be available alongside manned tills. A new menu will also be introduced with new dishes including smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, topped salad bowls, wraps and a new sharing range that includes nachos and loaded fries. ‌ Asda pizzas will also become part of the new menu with customers able to choose a full 12" pizza or individual slices, including margherita, pepperoni, American sizzler, spicy chicken, meat feast, ham and mushroom or veggie supreme. ‌ New drinks added to the menu include flavoured iced coffees, as well as a selection of cakes. Old favourites such as full English breakfast, fish and chips, lasagne, jacket potatoes, burger and chips will still be on the menu. The refurb, led by partner Compass Group will begin this month and is expected to be completed by the end of October. Asda has confirmed its popular Kids Eat for £1 deals will remain available. Some of the options for children include penne pasta with meatballs and a vegan hidden veg pasta meal, alongside fish fingers, chicken nuggets and the all-day breakfast. Ian McEvans, Vice President of Commercial Food at Asda, said: 'Cafes are an important part of the shopping experience for many of our customers, and this significant investment alongside allows us to bring a new look and feel, as well making improvements to the service and a refresh of the menu. 'We have continued to demonstrate our commitment to our cafes over the years with popular deals like the Winter Warmer and Kids Eat for £1 meal deals, and this investment marks another exciting milestone moment for us on our journey and underpins our continued commitment to ensuring Asda is set up for long term success at the heart of communities.' ‌ Andrew Jones, Managing Director, Compass Group added: 'It's great to continue our longstanding partnership with Asda, expanding to work across more stores and enhancing the offer with a significant rebrand and investment. The upgrade programme is set to introduce new technology, menu innovations and a new look and feel within the cafes. We look forward to getting started and our continued work together to serve the Asda customer.' It comes after Asda opened its first stand-alone George concept store in Leeds. The shop features George clothing, home and garden ranges from the supermarket and is located in the Crown Point Retail Park. Asda wants to replace all its existing Asda Living stores with this new format. Highlights include the George Spring/Summer 2025 collection, as well as children's ranges from Erica Davies and Billie Faiers, plus the latest At Home with Stacey Solomon Spring/Summer collection.

Asda giving away up to £6,000 to shoppers who spend £5 in supermarket stores

From Thursday May 1 until June 30, customers who spend £5 in store or online and scan their Asda Rewards app can earn an entry into the competition Asda is giving away £6,000 this month to shoppers who spend £5 in store to celebrate the supermarket's 60th birthday. Asda has introduced a new "Scan to Win" instant price draw for its Asda Rewards app. From Thursday May 1 until June 30, customers who spend £5 in store or online and scan their Asda Rewards app can earn an entry. Once scanned they will then be presented with a "gift" which will either be an instant Cashpot amount or instant win coupon. ‌ The top Cashpot prize available to win is £6,000, followed by other prizes worth £600, £60, £6 and 60p as well as £60, £6 and 60p off coupons. Customers will immediately receive the prize in their Asda Rewards Cashpot and wallet, and shoppers can then choose to convert their Cashpot into vouchers to spend either in an Asda store or online. ‌ The Asda Rewards is an app-based loyalty scheme and the supermarket says it's about "pounds, not points" and the more you shop at Asda the more your cash pot will build. Vouchers can be created from the Cashpot from £1, with the maximum voucher amount at £100. With this competition, shoppers will only be able to enter once per day - but you can enter each day if you find yourself needing to spend in Asda. The competition comes as Asda slashes the price of its popular cafe deal from £1 to just 60p as part of its birthday celebration. The new price will run from May 1 until May 31 and it will be available in over 205 Asda cafés across the UK. Under the deal, families can choose from nine different meals including Penna Pasta with Meatballs, Chicken Nuggets, Fish Fingers and Margherita pizza. In addition, families who purchase the hot kids 60p meal deal will also get a free piece of fruit, such as an apple, pear, or banana. As an alternative to a hot meal, Asda café also offers a £1 cold pick-and-mix selection, including a sandwich, drink, and piece of fruit. The menu includes new additions such as a jelly pot with whole fruit pieces or a jelly squeeze pouch as an alternative to a pack of crisps. ‌ Join Money Saving Club's specialist topics Ian McEvans, vice president of commercial food at Asda said: 'Asda has a rich heritage in supporting families and reducing our already hugely popular Kids Eat for £1 initiative to 60p is the perfect way to highlight that and to kick-start our 60th birthday celebrations. 'We know families face financial pressures when it comes feeding their children, not just during the school holidays, but all year round. We've served over six million meals since we first launched the initiative in 2022, proving what a lifeline it is to families across the UK, so I'm delighted that we can drop the price to 60p this May and hope to reduce some of that pressure even further.'

A family with four children can enjoy a hot meal for less than £2.50 from May 1 to 31. From June, kids' meals will return to the normal price of £1, which is still a bargain. Kids can choose from a hot or cold meal, with a variety of dishes on offer. On the hot menu is a choice of penne pasta with meatballs, chicken nuggets, fish fingers, jacket potato, hidden veg pasta and margherita pizza. And as the warm days start rolling in, little ones can get their paws on a sandwich, drink, piece of fruit, and a 'treat item'. There are also free pouches of baby food on offer too. Ian McEvans, Vice President - Commercial Food at Asda said: 'Asda has a rich heritage in supporting families and reducing our already hugely popular Kids Eat for £1 initiative to 60p is the perfect way to highlight that and to kick-start our 60th birthday celebrations. I transformed my council house into a pinkmas Christmas paradise with Asda & B&M buys - trolls say it's 'too cluttered' Tesco, Morrisons, M&S, Waitrose and Sainsbury's all offer kids menus in their cafe stores. At Sainsbury's, kids can tuck into a main and three sides for £3.25, or enjoy a cheese or ham sandwich, two snacks and a drink for the same price. However, if the children's meal is purchased with an adult-sized lunch costing £5.20 or more, it is just £1 for kiddos to chow down. The hot options include shroomdogs, chicken nuggets, cheese and tomato pasta or omega-3 fish fingers. Tesco offers various 'kids eat free' schemes throughout the year. In 2024, the supermarket provided 404,499 free meals to children and families throughout the school holidays. At Morrisons, children select one free meal from the kids' menu with any adult meal with a value of £4.50 or over. Waitrose launched a scheme for myWaitrose shoppers where a kids' lunch bag or hot meal is free after parents spend £5 or more. M&S also offers kids eat free deals at various times of the year. This comes after Morrisons handed out free doughnuts in stores across the country. Asda Cafe store list The following Asda stores contain their own cafe, serving a variety of hot and cold food at low prices. The sweet treat was a freebie with every refillable hot drink purchased from an in-store cafe. The deal ended on April 27. But for some customers, the deal wasn't enough to sugar coat the supermarket's decision to shut 54 of its cafes and 17 stores. The news sparked fears the Kids Eat Free and Free Fruit initiatives could also be scrapped, but Morrisons has now confirmed that this will not be the case. A spokesperson told The Sun: "The Kids Eat Free offer in partnership with Birds Eye remains as does the free fruit for kids." The supermarket also hands out free fruit to children within its stores, that is at risk of not being sold before its best before date. The offer is available every day, and aims to reduce food waste, whilst helping kids to reach their five a day.
